20 years ago, I spent the night in a women's only dormitory in a youth hostel. The other "woman" in the dormitory turned out to be male-bodied, and physically attacked me (punched me astonishingly hard for a "woman") when I turned the light on to get changed for bed, and then threw all my belongings into the corridor. I had to sleep elsewhere. I reported them to the police. They were banned from the YHA, but the next weekend turned up in the women's dormitory at a different hostel. The police told me that they had also been reported for flashing at a girl in a women's toilet, and were travelling with lots of sex toys on their bike (cycling holiday). In those days, the YHA's trans policy was that trans people should stay in a private room. Which this person had ignored.

I was certainly unlucky, as I went to 2 different hostels 2 weekends running, and this person was in my women's dormitory on both occasions! They were presumably spending their whole holiday in women's dormitories. They did pass in those days - when the possibility of someone being trans was the last thing on your mind. And because you had no idea that you were sharing the dormitory with a male person, you naturally behaved as you would in an all female dormitory. These days, transwomen are permitted to stay in YHA dormitories, which isn't great for the women and girls who use them, in the belief that the dormitories are still single sex.

I feel a bit emotional today after all this...

I first saw the screenshot of Stonewall's campaign points about 2 years ago, on here. I literally couldn't believe what it said, I honestly thought it might have been photoshopped, so I went onto the website myself and there it was, I was just horrified! Since then I have seen it shared on here and I have shared it myself a few times on here, there was some talk about it. But I felt like people were so unaware of what was happening - here is the biggest LGBT charity in the UK, possibly the world, who everyone thinks is so great, actually campaigning for the complete abolition of single sex spaces for females, to change the law so that a woman could never be in a position where she knew that the space she was using would be free of males. And no one really seemed to care?

Today, I have seen this screenshot all over Twitter. Everyone who has an interest in this issue is talking about it.

I truly feel like the wheels have fucking finally begun to come off.
