JK Rowling has donated £1 million of royalties from one of her children’s books to help fight the Covid-19 crisis in India.

The Harry Potter author is understood to have split the sum between two UK-based charities involved in relief work, including the provision of emergency oxygen supplies.

So, if you don't cough up the drugs and surgery cash (ker-ching for pharma and surgeons) for children, not grown adults here, children, to make irreversible changes to their bodies because they don't fit in to a crappy stereotype so individuals and charities (naming no namesWink) on the internet go straight in to affirm them, make them feel special, and tell them paying for these things (don't talk about it, don't wait and see, do it NOW) is the only way they'll ever feel happy - you're basically hitler?

😂😂😂😂 Yeah, thanks for today's laugh @cripez

peachgreen · 17/05/2021 12:03

@ProudExclu She aligned herself with Maya Forstater. She is not "a woman like you". She is coming from a very different place. There is nothing transphobic about supporting victims of abuse, but that's not all JKR has done.

I am sorry for your experiences. In the kindest possible way, I'm not going to engage with you further because you have been through the most terrible trauma and I have absolutely no desire to exacerbate that.

Nodal · 17/05/2021 12:03

I hope she donates to a detransitioning charity and helps fund the inevitable future legal cases for all those poor children who have been medicalised, maimed, sterilised and let down by their idiot muchausen syndrome by proxy, attention seeking parents that have bought into the idiocy of telling their children they can change sex, when they can't, and making them believe that normal childhood play and experimentation is a medical issue, when it isn't. let kids be bloody kids and the whatever kind of men and women they need to be!

Sexnotgender · 17/05/2021 12:03

Absolute monster, cancel her now...

ProudExclu · 17/05/2021 12:03

Notice @peachgreen has ignored most of my points and continued with her lies about JKR supporting the GC movement.

ProudExclu · 17/05/2021 12:04

@peachgreen WHAT A PTRONIZING COP OUT

You’re not engaging because you can’t without exposing yourself.

Zzelda · 17/05/2021 12:04

I do like the way JKR puts her money where her mouth is in relation to causes she supports. It really wrongfoots the bigots who like to sneer at well-known people who support basic concepts like fairness, justice, anti-racism, the fight against poverty etc.

ProudExclu · 17/05/2021 12:05

@peachgreen why do you think survivors such as myself shouldn’t be engaged with? How fucking disgusting.

ProudExclu · 17/05/2021 12:05

@peachgreen why don’t you just come out and say “men in dresses matter more than you do”

1starwars2 · 17/05/2021 12:06

Thank you JK.
Btw, if you have the means I think we should follow by example.
I donated yesterday to an appeal organised by a friend who has family in India, for oxgenators for a specific hospital.
The situation in India is dire.

peachgreen · 17/05/2021 12:06

No, @proudexclu. I am happy to respond to your general points. But I'm not going to talk about your own lived experiences and traumas. Your experiences are your own and not for me, or anyone else, to talk about.

continued with her lies about JKR supporting the GC movement

They are not lies. JKR has directly stated her support for leading GC figures like Maya Forstater. I assume the majority of the women posting on this thread would consider themselves to be GC, so I don't see why calling JKR GC is considered to be an insult?

Helleofabore · 17/05/2021 12:07

@peachgreen

Now you are really reaching.

I'm really not. JKR has publicly and repeatedly aligned herself with gender critical feminists. That's why she's so popular on these boards, no? I'm sure you don't see that as something to be ashamed of, so why deny that she's done it?

So, if she had left it at her tweet about Maya and NOT addressed the abuse that was coming her way in anyway shape or form, you would have been happy with that and not stated that she was transphobic then?

Just to be clear?

A woman who defended herself against online abuse coming from males threatening her and invading children's story twitter threads, is phobic. If she had left it at the one tweet and taken the abuse quietly, she would have been ok?

youvegottenminuteslynn · 17/05/2021 12:07

@peachgreen

Do you think the people on Twitter who said 'choke on my lady dick' etc to JKR should be prosecuted for hate speech / harassment?

peachgreen · 17/05/2021 12:08

So, if she had left it at her tweet about Maya and NOT addressed the abuse that was coming her way in anyway shape or form, you would have been happy with that and not stated that she was transphobic then?

Again, I have not said that she's transphobic. I have said that by publicly supporting GC feminists / transphobes (yes, I consider MF to be a transphobe), she has emboldened transphobes.

ProudExclu · 17/05/2021 12:09

@peachgreen but what I’ve experienced is exactly what JKR spoke out about. So you are refusing to listen to evidence. You are literally saying you will not listen to lives experiences that contradict your view.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 17/05/2021 12:10

They are not lies. JKR has directly stated her support for leading GC figures like Maya Forstater. I assume the majority of the women posting on this thread would consider themselves to be GC, so I don't see why calling JKR GC is considered to be an insult?

Gender critical feminist is not an insult. Transphobe is.

You seem to be making them synonymous, so it would be helpful for you to clarify that being a gender critical feminist does not make you a transphobe (someone who hates trans people) then it won't be taken as an insult.

peachgreen · 17/05/2021 12:10

@youvegottenminuteslynn I'm not au fait enough with hate speech laws to know whether or not they should be prosecuted (I imagine so, though) but of course it is absolutely unacceptable. Again, I'm not sure what bearing that has on this discussion. I've simply stated that while I don't agree with JKR's stance on trans rights, I still recognise her many charitable contributions and the important work she has done in areas like MS research, and that she - like the rest of us - has done and will continue to do good and bad things, because that is being human.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 17/05/2021 12:11

why do you think survivors such as myself shouldn’t be engaged with? How fucking disgusting.

Another crock of shit dished out toward survivors of sexual assault on this site.

This attitude is becoming increasingly pervasive and it sickens me. There are also no prizes for guessing where it's coming from.

yourhairiswinterfire · 17/05/2021 12:11

Again, I have not said that she's transphobic. I have said that by publicly supporting GC feminists / transphobes (yes, I consider MF to be a transphobe), she has emboldened transphobes.

Did you catch Maya's appeal? The one where EHRC intervened to confirm that the law actually says what Maya said, or as Maya's QC put it, Maya's views are ''on all fours with the law''.

Is the law transphobic too?

peachgreen · 17/05/2021 12:12

You seem to be making them synonymous, so it would be helpful for you to clarify that being a gender critical feminist does not make you a transphobe (someone who hates trans people) then it won't be taken as an insult.

Being a gender critical feminist does not make someone a transphobe. Very happy to clarify that and I have never said otherwise.

You are literally saying you will not listen to lives experiences that contradict your view.

No, I am absolutely listening to your lived experiences and I respect them. I am just not going to address them as part of an online debate. It's not my place to do so.

Sexnotgender · 17/05/2021 12:12

Is the law transphobic too?

Everything is transphobic.

RedDogsBeg · 17/05/2021 12:13

Any public figure who takes "a side" in a sensitive debate should take care to distance themselves from the extremes of said debate, yes.

Extremes of the said debate? You mean the extremes like rape and death threats, telling women to choke on their ladydick, die in a grease fire? The side that flooded JKR's Twitter feed of children's illustrations for her book The Ickabog with disgusting images of porn? Those extremes? Those actions and exhortations come from the side you have picked peachgreen.

You also seem to be yet another one who has a problem understanding the Maya Forstater case, maybe you should do what your side are always telling us to do and educate yourself.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 17/05/2021 12:15

@peachgreen why do you think MF is a transphobe?

So she's not allowed to say that biological sex is a relativity but you can label her a transphobe on a public forum?

peachgreen · 17/05/2021 12:15

@reddogsbeg If you read my previous posts you'll see that I have already condemned those actions?

Summercocktailsinthesnow · 17/05/2021 12:16

I don't think every conversation around JKR should be around this subject! She is an incredibly talented, world class author and a renowned the world over, she is so much more than this subject that is for sure.
