JK Rowling has donated £1 million of royalties from one of her children’s books to help fight the Covid-19 crisis in India.

The Harry Potter author is understood to have split the sum between two UK-based charities involved in relief work, including the provision of emergency oxygen supplies.

She also wasn’t the first but I know the “feminists” here won’t have a bad word spoke about their overlord

Oh don’t talk rubbish, ‘overlord’ for goodness sake

ArabellaScott · 17/05/2021 11:50

I found evidence! Book-burning! Evil! Look!

(okay, a Polish priest apologised for burning Harry Potter books as 'evil' but let's not get bogged down in small details.)

ArabellaScott · 17/05/2021 11:51

I, for one, welcome our new feminist overlord.

@DialSquare

One has a moustache, hth

Unfortunately that wouldn't help if you were comparing me to Hitler.

Hmm, I have several million to give to a charity to promote public health. Shall I put it towards reducing a serious pandemic that is killing hundreds of thousands or towards one that encourages teenage girls to bind their breasts and teenage children to take life altering hormones? Tough choice.

None of them are as involved as JKR. They have made one off or occasional statements of support.

I don't agree she has been transphobic. You obviously think she has been, so where is your proof?

I didn't say she had been transphobic. I said she had aligned herself with the gender critical movement. I don't think anyone would argue with that.

Name a single transphobe she has "emboldened". And emboldened to do what?

I mean, simply clicking on any of her tweets and reading the replies underneath will illuminate this for you. And emboldened to be openly transphobic. Obviously.

Helleofabore · 17/05/2021 11:54

TedImgoingmad

Hang on Ted. We are still waiting to hear back whether The President of the United States is more powerful than Joanne Rowling. I asked it up thread, let's give it some time shall we for that decision to come through.....

There may be some doubts?

RedDogsBeg · 17/05/2021 11:54

Frankly, I can see exactly where the bigotry is coming from and it isn't from JK Rowling or those who support her

Precisely, hellandhairnets and I can see perfectly clearly the ones who are behaving like Hitler and every other totalitarian, authoritarian dictator there has ever been and it isn't JKR, those who support her or gender critical feminists.

MoonCatcher · 17/05/2021 11:54

Personally I think every individual offered a JKR financed vaccine should refuse it, anything less is literal violence against the TRAs. That's reasonable right?

Oh, come on. Whether you agree that she herself has been transphobic or not, there is no denying that by coming out in support of the gender critical movement she has emboldened transphobes.

Ahh yes. Transphobes like myself who were living with an abusive trans partner constantly threatening me with all the things JKR has spoken out about.

Was it transphobic of me to object to the multiple rapes aswell?

peachgreen · 17/05/2021 11:55

And you don't think women should be able to talk about women's rights, particularly not if they have a wide reach and a high profile?

I didn't say this either?

Tibtom · 17/05/2021 11:55

That is so lovely that she is putting a significant amount of money into saving lives in India.

I see TRAs seem to think they should receive a tithe - they behave more like right wing religious fundamentalists each day.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 17/05/2021 11:56

Besides, Cripez, Mermaids gets an enormous amount of funding. It might be worth your time to have a look at how they spend it - because I don't see much value for money for the trans community.

And if you add in the portion of money that Stonewall has to spend on supporting the trans population then it's mind boggling that there aren't more training programmes for HCPs, refuges and research into what actually might be helpful (instead of affirmation ad then being surprised when some people turn out to not have been trans but autistic/traumatised/gay).

Have you thought about asking the well established charities about what they are actually achieving for the trans community? Cos all I see is a whole lot of whining and very little useful support or infrastructure.

Marguerite2000 · 17/05/2021 11:56

I see Cripez has buggered off without addressing any of the posts responding to theirs. What a surprise. Not.
Well done JK Rowling.
There are several other billionaires who make massive contributions to charitable causes, well done to them too.

BaronessWrongCrowd · 17/05/2021 11:56

Women speaking up for women’s rights. Clutch my pearls! How very dare they.

Helleofabore · 17/05/2021 11:58

None of them are as involved as JKR. They have made one off or occasional statements of support.

Now you are really reaching.

How many times has Joanne Rowling tweeted without it being in response to the threats that she was receiving? if Oprah received as many threats from males, as another survivor of male violence, and countered with a series of tweets and posts, would that be 'as involved' as Joanne Rowling?

peachgreen · 17/05/2021 11:58

Was it transphobic of me to object to the multiple rapes aswell?

I'm very sorry this happened to you. Genuinely. I am a SA survivor myself and I know how horrendous the long term ramifications are.

SunnydaleClassProtector99 · 17/05/2021 11:58

Time to do some vegetarian damage control.

Hitler wasn't a vegetarian. He was plant based for health reasons at times but his housekeeper published a book of his favourite recipes and it included all sorts of offal.
The Hitler was a vegetarian nonsense started because he saw the Dalai Lama was reverred and thought it would be good or.

There's a well known Jewish Vegan called Gary Yourofsky who comments that there were slaughter houses alongside the camps. Not the sort of thing vegetarians run.

So not only was that comment mind numbingly deleted by Mumsnet it was wildly inaccurate too.

ProudExclu · 17/05/2021 11:59

@peachgreen she aligned herself with women like me. Nothing else. No movement no political gain. She aligned herself with women like me. Do you want to tell me what is transphobic about support for women like myself who have been abused and had the trans agenda used as a constant weapon to imprison them and control their every movement?? Do you know what it’s like to live with the constant threat of the police being called to a made up story of transphobic abuse if you don’t have sex with a dirty smelly man for money? Do you know what it’s like to hear the words “if that law passes you will have NO PLACE I can’t access”?

ProudExclu · 17/05/2021 12:00

@peachgreen in fact it seems like you think women like me don’t deserve support at all. If no one can come out to support us without being accused of transphobia. Why do you hate us so much?

peachgreen · 17/05/2021 12:00

Now you are really reaching.

I'm really not. JKR has publicly and repeatedly aligned herself with gender critical feminists. That's why she's so popular on these boards, no? I'm sure you don't see that as something to be ashamed of, so why deny that she's done it?

Thumpsquids · 17/05/2021 12:01

I though JK's message was pretty clear:

'Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?'

No phobia there. Everything else is in support of the rights of women and girls. If you're looking specifically for transphobia, you'll find it, or, more likely, something that you deem is transphobic. Pro-women, not anti-trans. Huge difference.

Motnight · 17/05/2021 12:02

JKR is an amazing woman.

JudgeJ · 17/05/2021 12:02

@Hoppinggreen

I often struggle to tell the difference between JKR and Hitler. Probably because both wrote books
It's easy, JKR doesn't have facial fungus.
