She's such a hateful bigot, isn't she?

JK Rowling has donated £1 million of royalties from one of her children’s books to help fight the Covid-19 crisis in India.

The Harry Potter author is understood to have split the sum between two UK-based charities involved in relief work, including the provision of emergency oxygen supplies.

there is no denying that by coming out in support of the gender critical movement she has emboldened transphobes

You might want to define "transphobe". If you mean "woman who stands up for women's rights" or "woman who knows her sex matters" then I fail to see what differentiates you from any other misogynist. The "gender critical movement' incidentally is what used to be known as feminism. Support of sex stereotypes about masculinity and femininity (which is what gender identity theory does) has never been feminism in any way.

JKR has not changed her views on women's rights. What has changed is that we're now all expected to agree that sex stereotypes are good and 'natural dentities', that putting gender nonconforming and lesbian teenage girls on medical pathways to transition, including hormones and mastectomies, as soon as possible with no questions asks is ethical or adequate 'healthcare', that women who want single sex spaces are evil bigots who need re-education and that any woman asking questions about an overtly anti-feminist and sexist ideology is some kind of hatemonger who should be sent death and rape threats and be fired from their jobs and demonised worldwide as a transphobe.

Frankly, I can see exactly where the bigotry is coming from and it isn't from JK Rowling or those who support her.

DialSquare · 17/05/2021 11:40

There are many Tans people who agree with JKR. Are they extreme too?

breathhold · 17/05/2021 11:41

@ArabellaScott

How very awful of her. Weaponising her wealth like that.
Grin

That made me laugh and laugh!

DialSquare · 17/05/2021 11:42

One has a moustache, hth

Unfortunately that wouldn't help if you were comparing me to Hitler.

ArabellaScott · 17/05/2021 11:42

4 posts?! Godwin's Law working extra hard today! Criminy.

breathhold · 17/05/2021 11:43

@cripez

Hitler loved his animals but he still went all out on creating the perfect race. Still evil.

Would be nice if, one day, she directed a small amount of her wealth, not even a tenth of the amount mentioned above, to supporting trans kids and their families.

Wouldn't kill her.

Grin

Did you write that as parody?

Its so hard to tell nowadays.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 17/05/2021 11:44

@SmallPrawnEnergy

She lost her status due to some charitable giving but mainly tax rates taking her below the £bn. She also wasn’t the first but I know the “feminists” here won’t have a bad word spoke about their overlord.

Why the "" around feminists? You can use the word you know, it's perfectly legitimate.

She's not my overlord (or lady - how outdated and misgendering to use a male gendered term when JKR uses the pronouns she / her) by the way.

OldLang · 17/05/2021 11:44

“If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth”

“The idea that women like me, who’ve been empathetic to trans people for decades, feeling kinship because they’re vulnerable in the same way as women—i.e., to male violence—‘hate’ trans people because they think sex is real and has lived consequences—is a nonsense.”

“I respect every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them. I’d march with you if you were discriminated against on the basis of being trans. At the same time, my life has been shaped by being female. I do not believe it’s hateful to say so.”

Yes. Vitriolic, hateful and fear-mongering words aren't they?

And to the pp who implied that women concerned about global sex-based rights and protections are sychophants following an "overlord", you look like the bigoted one here. It should only take one woman to say no. Anything else is removing our consent.

I absolutely despair.

GlassBoxSpectacular · 17/05/2021 11:45

@Queenoftheashes

I heard she’s the only person to lose billionaire status due to charitable giving
What an utter bitch! Angry
Anurulz · 17/05/2021 11:45

It is amazing how easy it is these days to compare anyone they don't like to Hitler and the likes.. and apparently Indians to animals (this was new though)..

52andblue · 17/05/2021 11:45

@AlfonsoTheTerrible

I agree. Comparing J K Rowling to Hitler is hilarious in its absurdity.

And good for Ms Rowling, donating to charity. She's wonderful.

It is. She is. A talented writer and a thoroughly decent human being. (therefore attracts sniping and hatred sadly)
RedDogsBeg · 17/05/2021 11:46

I don't agree with JKR's stance on trans rights and I strongly dislike the fact that she has used her platform in ways that have legitimised transphobia

JKR doesn't have a stance on trans rights, she is taking a stand for women's rights, if you think that's anti-trans you are admitting that trans rights are detrimental to and removing women's rights. Whilst we are on the subject of rights could you perhaps answer the question that is routinely asked but never answered by those who hold your views which is what rights do trans people not have?

I don't think she's a hateful bigot, but she is wrong.

How is JKR wrong?

What is it with the JKR worship around here? If you need a public figure to back up your prejudices, you can't be very sure of them.

Another one stating that women's rights are prejudicial - to whom? Again confirmation from the horses mouth that trans rights are prejudicial to women.

commatose · 17/05/2021 11:46

@Hoppinggreen

I often struggle to tell the difference between JKR and Hitler. Probably because both wrote books
Yes, someone really needs to dig down into what Hitler did with the royalties for Mein Kampf. I bet he didn't even donate the foreign editions earnings to Alsatian Rescue charities, the tight bastard.
ArabellaScott · 17/05/2021 11:46

To be fair, I bet JKR has been to Poland, which if you think about it, is exactly like invading it.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 17/05/2021 11:47

She's not my overlord (or lady - how outdated and misgendering to use a male gendered term when JKR uses the pronouns she / her) by the way.

Whoops! Mermaids have already got into hot water for that once this week.

Omemiserum · 17/05/2021 11:47

NO she isn't!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 17/05/2021 11:48

I do hope that JKR sees this thread.

She'll laugh and laugh and laugh.

I certainly did.

DialSquare · 17/05/2021 11:48

@ArabellaScott

To be fair, I bet JKR has been to Poland, which if you think about it, is exactly like invading it.
Vsiting Poundland is close enough to invading Poland in TRA think.
Viviennemary · 17/05/2021 11:49

Not keen on her. Big deal she donated some of her zillions. Good books though.

ProudExclu · 17/05/2021 11:49

Remarkably they never tell men what to do with their money it's the same old sexist, misogynistic and authoritarian missive that underpins the whole of the TRA agenda.

That’s because they’re REAL women and know their place and would never make such a faux pa as to order a man about. It detracts from the femininity they radiate

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 17/05/2021 11:49

J.K.Rowling is just like Hitler!

J.K.Rowling is embolding “transphobes!”

...can we see any evidence for that?

...silence....

Summercocktailsinthesnow · 17/05/2021 11:49

As the biggest fan of hers ever to walk the earth, I am unsurprised at this, she is a very decent person through and through, and a great example to my children.

TedImgoingmad · 17/05/2021 11:50

@Kit19

no one who is as high profile as JKR on the other side??? really?? Emma Watson Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint Margaret Atwood Stephen King Sophie Turner Miley Cyrus Oprah Winfrey Beyonce

and that's just off the top of my head.

Add:
 • all the US late night talk show hosts to that list;
 • all the major US network anchors (Fox News excepted), e.g., Anderson Cooper;
- MPs of 3 major UK political parties;
 • the IOC chiefs and numerous other sporting bodies;
- the BBC;
 • The editorship of The Guardian and The Independent newspapers;
 • The President and Vice President of the United States of America.
midsomermurderess · 17/05/2021 11:50

Crispez, do you not respect that people are allowed to choose which causes to support? You don't get to dictate that. You really are very silly, and self absorbed.

HecatesCatsInFancyHats · 17/05/2021 11:50
@HecatesCatsInFancyHats Oh, come on. Whether you agree that she herself has been transphobic or not, there is no denying that by coming out in support of the gender critical movement she has emboldened transphobes. It's inevitable when a public figure aligns themselves with one side of a sensitive debate.
So you can't highlight anything specific that's transphobic? And you don't think women should be able to talk about women's rights, particularly not if they have a wide reach and a high profile? I see.
