JK Rowling has donated £1 million of royalties from one of her children’s books to help fight the Covid-19 crisis in India.

The Harry Potter author is understood to have split the sum between two UK-based charities involved in relief work, including the provision of emergency oxygen supplies.

OTOH if there are any rich people out there who can donate to families to provide proper counselling and not the automatic affirmation model currently offered by the major charities who are funded from public and philanthropic purses and also trauma and grief counselling to detransitioners then I think that would be money well spent.

I wonder if this Hitler/JKR comparison is being fed to children online? I was in a charity shop a couple of weeks ago, and a group of older teens were in there, a lad and 2 girls. One of the girls pointed out some Harry Potter merchandise, and the lad in the group started going on about JKR having an extraordinary gene pool, but still being evil. It was the first time I had heard anyone laying into her in real life, and referencing her gene pool just seemed like such an odd thing to say. Maybe kids are being told JKR is trying to create a trans exclusionary master race or some such nonsense.

People contain multitudes and can do both good and bad things. Groundbreaking, I know.

I don't agree with JKR's stance on trans rights and I strongly dislike the fact that she has used her platform in ways that have legitimised transphobia, but I will be forever grateful to her for the huge amount of money she has pumped into MS research, including funding a groundbreaking experimental treatment which my mum benefitted from. The two things can coexist. Like most of us, she is neither a saint nor a devil.
