Caitlyn was an athlete. Caitlyn knows.

Helleofabore · 01/05/2021 22:46

I guess that night surprise a few people.

I expect a meltdown to be happening.

Well said Caitlyn Jenner

GNCQ · 01/05/2021 22:51

Is Twitter exploding?
Not on it myself but do know it's full of the fragile sort.

Eminybob · 01/05/2021 22:53

Never thought I’d agree with something Caitlin Jenner has to say. But she’s not wrong.

Thunderdonkey · 01/05/2021 22:54

Good for her!

SD1978 · 01/05/2021 22:56

I'm sure Caitlin will be made to back down, but they are absolutely right. And this is coming from someone with experience at elite athlete level- but it doesn't follow the current allowed narrative so will be apologised for no doubt. When will the 'rights' of so few stop being conflated with, and taking over, the rights of women and girls everywhere. I really, really hope to see it one day.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 01/05/2021 22:57

@UhtredRagnarson

Caitlyn was an athlete. Caitlyn knows.
This basically
transsloth · 01/05/2021 22:57

Jenner is right on this, hopefully this will help move the conversation on to a position based in reality.

Emmelina · 01/05/2021 22:58

Good for her. She knows even now she is stronger and bigger built than biological women and that it would be unfair. I bet Twitter is melting down c

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 01/05/2021 22:58

@UhtredRagnarson

Caitlyn was an athlete. Caitlyn knows.
This is exactly what I was going to say. Of course Caitlyn Jenner knows the deal here. Caitlyn will of course be accused of 'pulling up the ladder behind her' etc, but it's no coincidence that actual athletes are against this. Because they of all people know.
FightingTheFoo · 01/05/2021 22:59

Unfortunately this won't change anyone's mind because Caitlyn has effectively already been cancelled for wrongthink (being a Republican; hiring a campaign team who used to work for Trump etc). So no one will pay any attention.

But yes, they're right about this.

FightingTheFoo · 01/05/2021 22:59

*They being Caitlyn

NecessaryScene1 · 01/05/2021 23:10

Caitlyn will of course be accused of 'pulling up the ladder behind her'

Okay, I thought I was getting good at this, but my mind can't even engage with that. I think I've stripped the gears.

OverByYer · 01/05/2021 23:13

I can’t keep up.

EdwinPootsLovesArchaeology · 01/05/2021 23:18

Jenner is an aspiring politician, and a Republican.

Interesting that this is part of Jenner's 'run' at a political stance. I suspect that they know it'll be popular with the actual voters rather than the twitterati & collegerati who won't be in Jenner's potential voting pool anyway.

NiceGerbil · 01/05/2021 23:37

The republicans are the ones bringing the bills to ban mixed sex sport.
Caitlyn is a Republican and a pretty hard line one at that.
Caitlyn also carried on membership of a men only golf club with the name Bruce on the application etc
There's other stuff as well.

The fact that some right wing people/ religious people etc think sport should be single sex is not surprising.

It's good that CJ has said this in a way, I suspect they don't care much really and are looking to their political career. Saying to replican voters. I am trans, but my views match yours, they take precedence over my trans status.

The thing I find interesting, which is a complete side track!

Is that when a trans woman says something like this, many posters will refer to them as she. When they say things that are not welcome, they are a them.

I think I am consistent in using they them etc because my view about sex gender etc doesn't change if I like what someone on the internet says iyswim.

Does anyone who used she and would usually use they have a reason? I wonder if it's conscious or subconscious?

idontlikealdi · 01/05/2021 23:49

Can't be keeping up but Caitlyn was an athlete and how she can influence with some sense.

Binglebong · 02/05/2021 01:41

I'm sure there will soon be accusations that Caitlyn is not "true trans" from the usual suspect.

NiceGerbil I find she and they hard. If I hear a traditionally female name I automatically use she and have to mentally correct myself. But I think for clarity in discussions about the subject it is important to get the sex right, or at least as right as we are allowed to. So I try to use they or their name.

I suspect though we are all willing to be I can't think of the right word so this is closest more cooperative with someone who is willing to look at facts as well as feelings. In day to day life I will certainly do more for someone who is friendly than for someone who just makes demands. So I think the preferred pronoun is sometimes used as conciliatory gesture in recognition that they are holding an olive twig if not a full branch. I think it's often unconscious though.

@UhtredRagnarson

Caitlyn was an athlete. Caitlyn knows.

But how long before she is bullied into changing her mind??!?! Or saying she was misquoted?

GreyhoundG1rl · 02/05/2021 02:23

Well, this is positive.

EmphaticPeriod · 02/05/2021 02:45

CJ was also fine about being called he last week too, whereas others might have gone on about being misgendered.
“Don’t sweat it, Joy Behar. I’m not about cancel culture. I know where your heart is. California has bigger issues than pronouns.”
They also were asked about genitalia by Brendan O'Carroll and didn't break a sweat.
