I don’t agree that it is only politically motivated. They could have retrofitted their sports history like their other personal history but haven’t. Because I think the incongruance of being a decathlete and then stating they believe transwomen should compete against females is a step too far.

Their stating this doesn’t change anything else about them though. It just means on this one issue I agree with them. Like the sky is blue and stopped clocks.

Justhadathought · 02/05/2021 08:56

Perhaps we should have trans olympics in the way we have paralympics

absolutely! third spaces, generally, are the way to go. That way everyone gets their needs met and their rights protected.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 02/05/2021 08:57

@gymbummy

Is it too much to hope that the bloody Kardashians with their huge influence will come out in support of this statement by Caitlyn? My respect for Caitlyn has gone through the roof, I might have a crumb of respect for one of the Kardashians if they had the guts/brains to support this
From what i have seen, the Kardashians have distanced themselves from the whole 'Caitlyn is trans' thing generally. Kylie appears to still have a good relationship with Caitlyn, but publicly still calls them 'Dad' in her posts and YouTube videos.

So I doubt they will say anything either way on this.

I think a lot of this is politically motivated, but I also think that CJ isn't stupid and if they started going on about how transwomen should play in women's sports people would be highly Hmm given that CJ themselves won a Gold medal in an exclusively male sport!

DaisiesandButtercups · 02/05/2021 09:03

@ottermadness

Another point about women’s sports is that top-level sports are a platform and showcase. There is a ripple effect when we see injustice in top-level sports. If women and girls have to accept injustice there, we have to accept it everywhere. And so it builds.
This!
HamsterV2 · 02/05/2021 09:03

Perhaps we should have trans olympics in the way we have paralympics?

The issues I see with that are:

  1. There probably aren't enough trans athletes to make up a full olympics
  2. TRAs will accuse the organisers of creating a "trans ghetto", because 'TWAW'
  3. TW see themselves as women so they feel it's their "right" to compete in women's sport.
  4. Would it be financially viable? From the point of attendance/viewing figures etc.

I'm not an avid sport watcher but I'd certainly support a trans olympics or some form of trans competition. I think all these sporting organisations need to grow a backbone and regulate against this unfairness asap as it's messing with world records and women's achievements - whether that be at grass roots or professional level.

ElphabaTWitch · 02/05/2021 09:06

Totally agree. Was so pleased to read this I. The news this morning SHOUT LOUDER KAITLYN!!!!

Helleofabore · 02/05/2021 09:08

Sure.

Or this denial of the material reality of sex could actually just stop. Shift the paradigm back to accepting that bodies are either formed male or female and accept that some males feel more comfortable as living as women. And not trying to force acceptance as a woman when material reality counts.

We could get the medical community to, I don’t know, encourage resilience in accepting material reality. that if you have a male body and have gender dysphoria, you don’t ‘become’ a female. And just because you then choose to have treatment, you are actually like any other person who has to choose to have treatment that might mean you cannot compete in sport at the standard you wish or even in the sport you wish. But that material reality exists and if you are a male, you compete as a male.

And failing that, yes, then set up your own sports category with your own rules.

tilder · 02/05/2021 09:10

@hm246

Not seen one tweet mention about trans boys competing in boys sports only trans girls in girls......wonder why 🤔
I did see one tweet. The child said their school recognised it would be dangerous to compete with the boys so they compete with the girls.
Violetparis · 02/05/2021 09:14

Sophie Ridge on Sky News has just asked Lisa Nandy about Caitlin Jenner's comments. Lisa said it should be left to sports bodies to decide.

BewaretheIckabog · 02/05/2021 09:16

An example of the TRA argument that stood out to me was that Flo Jo’s 100 m time was faster than Jenner’s.

Flo Jo was a sprinter - fastest woman in the world - Jenner was a decathlete not a sprinter. This kind of argument is ridiculous.

Nandy is very well practiced in skirting round the trans issues.
PennineSpring · 02/05/2021 09:18

Lisa is a fucking coward. Lisa supports male rapists in women’s prison but fails to take a side here?
How intellectually craven.

BewaretheIckabog · 02/05/2021 09:22

I’ve often thought that in athletics if an Olympic gold medal holder / world champion transitioned they could hold both the male and female record.

If this ever happens do you think it would be a trans woman or a trans man that could potentially achieve this 🤔?

This is the only sensible and healthy approach as far I can see.

Thank you Helleofabore for saying it so clearly.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 02/05/2021 09:36

Jenner was a decathlete not a sprinter. This kind of argument is ridiculous.

Daley Thompson was comparatively underwhelming* as a runner - won the decathlon gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984, and broke the world record for the event four times - likewise, he was excellent across many of the decathlon events.

Flo Jo's records stand and no other woman has even begun to approach them.

www.worldathletics.org/records/all-time-toplists/sprints/100-metres/outdoor/women/senior

*Still thought to be the UK's best all-round athlete and that comparative is relative to single sport specialists.

Absolutely this. I couldn't agree with you more!

Childrenofthestones · 02/05/2021 09:38

It's simple. If it makes no difference where are all the transmen winning in men's sports.

CaveMum · 02/05/2021 09:48

There doesn’t need to be a third category in sports (for a start the transgender category would have hardly any participants and therefore render the title meaningless - eg can you really call yourself 800m Transgender World Champion when you only beat 4 other athletes?

We keep two categories - Female (open only to biological females, inc trans men if they wish) and Open (open to anyone and everyone, they can dress/present however they like).

SunsetBeetch · 02/05/2021 09:49

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

This is exactly what I was going to say. Of course Caitlyn Jenner knows the deal here. Caitlyn will of course be accused of 'pulling up the ladder behind her' etc, but it's no coincidence that actual athletes are against this. Because they of all people know.

Word for word! I like the reply though.

Ha that's great!

How is Caitlyn pulling the ladder up when Caitlyn competed in sport before they transitioned? Stupid people.

True and FloJo was most likely on performance enhancing drugs. Compare like with like : Cece Grey was somewhere around 200th in the USA 🇺🇸for 800 metres. Now he is winning women's races with ease.
Gingernaut · 02/05/2021 09:53

TRAs are going nuts on Twitter.

Apparently, Jenner isn't trans.

How they work this Woke Big Brother 'doublethink' into their internal logic is beyond me.

GNCQ · 02/05/2021 09:59

I'd be a bit safer re transmen.
Open to socially transitioned only transmen because testosterone is a powerful performance enhancing drug.
Transwomen to compete with the males never women.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/05/2021 10:00

Oh, is it a day ending in Y?

CaesarsDream · 02/05/2021 10:01

Caitlyn Jenner is a world class athlete, the average TRA is not. Caitlyn Jenner is also a fully transitioned transwoman and with bucketloads of integrity it would seem.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

You’re right, I should have specified that transmen to compete in the female category only if they have not taken testosterone.
