I just came out as GC at work, to the big boss and I feel a bit sick

I have NCed for this. I have just outed myself as GC in work to the big boss (and some others cced in).

I was asked to sign off on something that I just couldn't and I said so, and explained why.

I literally feel sick. Like I have put a big fat GC target on my back. My org is totally woke. I wonder how many times my response has been forwarded already.

What the fuck went on in this thread today?

I nipped out for some sunshine and it all went kerflooey.

Do I need to start handing out Smelly Badger Awards to people talking shite?

Cervix is a Latin word meaning neck. As has been pointed out on either this thread or another one I read recently (apols, can't remember which) it's used to indicate both the topmost part of the spine and also the neck of the womb. Cervical is the adjectival form. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to learn that lots of people who've vaguely heard of cervical cancer and cervical smears don't know that the part of the body involved is the cervix, and where it is.

Ooh I do like the word kerflooey.

I've got a cervical cushion. For my neck/head.
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/04/2021 21:07

Quite. I could do with one of those, actually. Nasty feeling arthritis is taking hold in my neck. Sad

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 17/04/2021 21:14

My DGM used to have a cervical collar.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 17/04/2021 21:14

:( I would definitely recommend one. I get a lot less cervix neck pain and tension headaches since I got mine. It was only a few £ on amazon too.

BuffyTheSlavishIdeologySlayer · 17/04/2021 21:14

I didn't know the neck thing.
Something to remember next time I am reading Funny Bones to ds.

Which
yet again
YET AGAIN
brings us back to the OP's situation

Clear, unequivocal, scientifically based healthcare information
is ABSOLUTELY key

over
CLARITY
needs to be challenged by those who value facts

And, to be absolutely fair, recently the options around cervical might be one of those areas where a little knowledge can end up confusing the matter. HPV vaccines reduce both the risk of cervical cancer (cells in the neck that connects the uterus and vagina) and head and neck cancer.

People put in search engine enquiries that reflect the conflation. You can see some of this in the screenshot.

@Butwasitherdriveway

I think you have just misinterpreted the original post tbh. It never was really about the OP. Many people are really scared about what is happening and it's clear to most of us that the OP was too. It's easy to ignore it if it does not affect you directly but the OP is standing up for the more vulnerable in society. I think that was clear from the start.

timeisnotaline · 17/04/2021 23:55

@Butwasitherdriveway

Outing is equally as....deceitful.

GC is in no way equable to the conflict people feel in revealing they are gay.

Outing is very ordinary language! I wouldn’t blink reading it in a market analysis at an investment bank, it’s pretty oppressive to suddenly tell people these words are off the table!
Odense · 18/04/2021 00:04

In defence of the OPs clarity of language Point, you only have to take a stroll round some of the other boards on her (AIBU is pretty bad for this)to see just how shockingly poor reading comprehension is. And that’s in a bunch of people sufficiently wealthy and well educated enough to go online as a leisure activity.

SmokedDuck · 18/04/2021 02:38

Thanks you, @transbadger, for the award. It's my best effort so far.

boatyardblues · 18/04/2021 06:37

Posting to show appreciation for the tooting badger emoji combination. 👌

My attempt in Rap Style Grin Grin

Hey you, I'm not a prick
You got the wrong sex
Cos I have got a cerVIX

Keep getting it wrong
By labelling gender
I gotta try and change that thinking
Cos I ain't no pretender

We need identity
To stop the effects
Of negative thinking
Not gender, it's SEX

Congressdingo · 18/04/2021 08:53

What does one call a group of cervixes
Women.

JustcameoutGC · 18/04/2021 09:00

@transbadger I think your prize-giving services may be required

*I believe that everyone should have the right to identify how they choose and people should respect t.

When I write it like that, it's indisputable.*

But isn’t the point that being trans isn’t a choice?

Bancha · 18/04/2021 09:04

Oops - bold fail

@Clarice99

A post worthy of a Badass Badger Award for sure. 🏆

I imagine this rap performed in the awkward style of Louis Theroux

🦡🌈🤍

WallaceinAnderland · 18/04/2021 10:15

If the word 'outing' only applies to gay people, why can't the word 'women' only apply to women?

transbadger · 18/04/2021 10:18

@WallaceinAnderland

If the word 'outing' only applies to gay people, why can't the word 'women' only apply to women?

And another Badass Badger Award!

🏆

I'm going to run out at this rate if you lot don't stop being so logical for Christ sake.

🦡🌈🤍

Clarice99 · 18/04/2021 10:22

@transbadger

Thank you!

I have far more flair than Louis T Grin (in my dreams)

I can't get rapping style songs out of my head!! I need some diversion.
