I just came out as GC at work, to the big boss and I feel a bit sick

I have NCed for this. I have just outed myself as GC in work to the big boss (and some others cced in).

I was asked to sign off on something that I just couldn't and I said so, and explained why.

I literally feel sick. Like I have put a big fat GC target on my back. My org is totally woke. I wonder how many times my response has been forwarded already.

@Floisme

Most of the workplaces I know do not have unions and where they do exist, from what I've seen they're fully signed up to gender ideology and would cheerfully throw you under for heresy. On this issue, I'd trust my CEO more than I would a union rep.
Our union rep is extremely woke and would be the very last person I’d turn to for help in this context. I don’t trust them in the slightest.
Butwasitherdriveway · 17/04/2021 18:01

Union reps are bound by the actual policies, though.

Ah thank you! The one time I summoned up the nerve to query it, I was told they couldn't do anything about the wording as it wasn't theirs. Now I need to think of a diplomatic way of going back to tell them they're um... wrong. That should go well Grin
Have a play with the free version of Surveymonkey - it lets you do up to 10 questions and 100 responses that way when they say "it can't be done" you can reply with yes it can and here are the questions ready written in the correct format pedant, moi?
Floisme · 17/04/2021 18:05

Thanks Listening The trouble is, designing surveys isn't part of my remit. I will need to think up a 'I was messing about on Surveymonkey and I happened to notice that you do seem to be able to do this after all....' kind of approach, rather than, 'You lying bastards.'

Nellodee · 17/04/2021 18:10

WaitWhat23, I went to take a look at that list to see if I could use it to write an explanatory poem about who has cervix and why, but realised it would almost certainly result in an instaban! Blush

ListeningQuietly · 17/04/2021 18:14

@Floisme
Kids use it for school work .... PTAs use it ..... Facebook pages use it .... there are loads of reasons why you could have been messing around with it WinkGrin

Floisme · 17/04/2021 18:18

That's true Listening, thanks. Now I just need to think up a non-confrontational way of telling them they're either mistaken or they're lying. What can possibly go wrong? Grin

ListeningQuietly · 17/04/2021 18:29

Floisme
As part of my work I write technical guidance
the organisations I deal with are the opposite of woke by the way
and I'm a BIG believer in hyperlinks to legislation and government guidance.
That way its not my opinion
its provable rules
so if somebody wants to criticise what I say they have to start by refuting links that end in .gov.uk Smile

So if you were to say "and this is the wording I got from clause XXX of the EA" ....

Floisme · 17/04/2021 18:42

Thanks again Listening I am now really annoyed with them for telling me they couldn't change the wording when it was clearly a blatant, easily disprovable lie. The moral I think is to always have all your facts lined up before you ask questions.

For lower ability students, I tend to make silly songs to get things to stick. Sadly, not much rhymes with cervix, so I don’t think that would apply to the information being discussed in this thread.

There once was a group of young chicks,
Confused about the cervix.
Where could it be found,
They wondered aloud,
"Tween the lowermost lips and the nips."

But the flippancy is the problem, isn't it
I have no idea if the pp who wrote what your responding to was being flippant or not, I can honestly say my life would be fantastic if I could retire now on my state pension officially aged 67/68. I could have many many years of not working and claiming. I am not being flippant,I'm damned serious. So if its an option I will take it.

ListeningQuietly · 17/04/2021 19:23

Flippant? Moi ? Wink

Transbadger
That is BRILLIANT

@Mibbiesaye

"Except I point blank refuse to believe someone's TEENAGER daughter currently in existence somewhere between 13 and 18 doesn't know they have a cervix."

Really? You can't imagine any young people with literacy problems, learning difficulties, with EAL, or from cultural backgrounds where parents may not be willing or able discuss these things?

Women are not invited for a smear test before age 18, so it is entirely possible teens would not know they had one.

True - it's 25 yrs-old and up in England. I don't even remember when information leaflets started calling it cervical screening rather than a smear test.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/04/2021 19:46

I believe that everyone should have the right to identify how they choose and people should respect t.

When I write it like that, it's indisputable.

Oh really. I identify as Elizabeth I. There is no objective evidence to support this belief. Should I be respected?

Nellodee · 17/04/2021 19:55

Brilliant, smokedduck!

Yeh.

But it isn't.

And the flippancy doest help.

Butwasitherdriveway · 17/04/2021 19:58

Oh I agree the rate should be lowered.

But I really struggle with someone not knowing they have a cervix.

Flakeymcwakey · 17/04/2021 20:03

Most people who have a cervix, Driveway, only know it because they know themselves to be of the sex class female. Its hardly ever because they have seen or percieved their own cervix. Which is a problem now that "girl" is defined increasingly as a feeling and we are teaching people that they literally change sex when they transition.

HermitsLife · 17/04/2021 20:10

Thats beautiful SmokedDuck. Do we have a Mumsnet Poet Laureate? 🏆

You said you’re not in England Driveway, I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

There are posters all over the tube about kids of both sexes getting vaccinated against ‘certain HPV cancers’.

ValancyRedfern · 17/04/2021 20:15

If kids in school are told that 'some people have a cervix' with no mention of male or female. How they supposed to know which of them have a cervix? The teachers leaving out the words male and female are assuming the kids already know, which is a massive dereliction of duty.

I only knew I had a cervix when I was invited to a smear test aged 19. And even then I didn't know where it was: I thought it would be a vaginal swab near the opening, I nearly shot off the bad in pain and shock when the nurse started winching me open and mining my insides. And I was educated before all this confusing language.

Pretty much how it will be when the definition of woman taught in school is “anyone who identifies as a woman” and the children will shake their heads and say, but what is a woman then?

The definition only works if everyone already knows what a woman is.

At least if you use the definition “anyone with a cervix” it can technically be checked, though some might suggest that having to examine genitals to check such details is a terrible thing to have to do... but then if you don’t check, how could anyone possibly know who has a cervix otherwise?
