Transman Prinz Chiyo Gomes splits gay community: gay man accused of hate

Shedbuilder · 30/03/2021 10:11

Prinz Chiyo is a transman who entered (and I'm told won, but can't confirm) the Mr Gay England competition last year:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-53936529

Chiyo has talked publicly about Chiyo's experience of sexual abuse from an early ago. Chiyo is also an icon among young girls who want to escape the burden of femininity and is celebrated on BBC's Newsbeat.

A gay man who tweets as Sheridan Sinclair recently wrote an article about Chiyo and why he objected to a someone who talks openly about their vagina and the fact they menstruate qualifying to compete in Mr Gay England. This has set off a Twitterstorm. Sheridan Sinclair has been forced to close his Twitter account and take down his article.

Before he was shut down, Sheridan Sinclair pointed out that many gay men have spent large parts of their lives being told there's something wrong with them, that they should learn to love 'pussy', and that having Chiyo compete in Mr Gay England is homophobic.

Sheridan Sinclair has been reported to the police for hate crime and is expecting a visit from the rozzers this morning. Fair Cop, I hope he's been in touch with you.

and just ask you and others do you never think I have had right stripped?

Then talk to us about your views without trying to control anyone's speech.

People have reacted to your tone and even in your post before last you seem to be continuing to appeal to people to 'be kind'. It is a manipulative trans activist tactic and you will find that and other tactics will be pointed out to you each time you try to apply them.

But please do talk to us about your rights because that is what we are all here to discuss. The interactions of the rights for protecting females against sexist discrimination that we experience due to our sexed bodies and other groups.

GeorgiaPass · 10/01/2022 15:07

Thanks for explaining - that was not intentional

Totally understand AFAB too - 'assumed' perhaps but I will not use the term again

I appreciate I am speaking to women of course and so if any of my actions were seen to bring women down then of course I wholeheartedly apologise - I didn't mean to cause upset to anyone I came into contact with today and I used the language in response to the topic rather than who I was speaking to.

titchy · 10/01/2022 15:08

(I for one do not agree with the opinions of JK Rowling)

She is supportive of trans people - why in earth wouldn't you agree with her? Confused

Or maybe you haven't actually read what she said?

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 10/01/2022 15:09

Stop apologising. We don't ask it of you.

If you believe something is right, true then that's what you believe. Discuss it, don't apologise for it. That's what more you can do, should you choose to.

It isn't your words we don't like. It is the ideas and beliefes behind them. It is those, not the words themselves we disagree with. Sounds like semantics but as we are all fully capable of swearing, being very robust and less than 'at home with grandma' polite here, we do actually mean it.

I don't know if you have had any rights stripped from you. Your posting makes it seem as though you would happily give up some rights in order to make others happy. You can't do that for allwomen.

You came here to champion someone. To speak up for someone you saw being maligned. We can see that. And disagree with that whilst still holding your right to disagree as sacrosanct.

Which is why we debate and don't cancel here.

Helleofabore · 10/01/2022 15:13

Just out of interest georgiapass, what were your expectations when you decided to post on MN? Do you have preconceived ideas from reading trans activist discourse on how MN is full of hate?

Or is it that this is genuinely the way you would interact with people on other anonymous forums?

You don't have to answer at all on this one. It is just my own interest.

GeorgiaPass · 10/01/2022 15:23

I didn't read anything to that affect, I saw the post (albeit an older one now) and wanted to weigh in

I don't speak on anonymous forums unless it is something I want to comment on and feel that I have gathered enough knowledge to (of course we all have our own standards of this) but I don't have pre-conceived ideas of any online platform prior to using it and I will always own up to anything that has come across incorrectly and appreciate that today members of this community have given me the opportunity to do so and to also explain myself where perhaps I have misunderstood something.

I hope that makes sense

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 10/01/2022 15:27

It does.

You are a social media butterfly and chat as and when you find something interesting Smile

Stick around. Maybe become a rights hoarding dinosaur like the rest of us Grin

GeorgiaPass · 10/01/2022 15:28

Thank you and you are correct.

I just wanted to champion someone and my apologies come because of the clumsy way I have done that and this is a learning experience for me.

I would give up most things in life if it meant something to someone else but I appreciate that's the easiest thing in the world to say sometimes

The issues raised here are something I am trying to navigate myself and I don't claim to be anywhere near that yet I just wanted to be a champion of someone I know is special and deserves to be recognised I never expected everyone to agree.

GeorgiaPass · 10/01/2022 15:29

I like the idea of that :)

Love the name by the way!

GeorgiaPass · 10/01/2022 15:30

I was basing that on things I have seen currently.

I will read further into her statements though thank you

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 10/01/2022 15:31

And is total anathema to me and many others. Value yourself.

Women are socialised to do such stuff, almost no matter what the cost to themselves. Feminists tend to stand up and say "Fuck that!" and do their best to recognise when we are acting out this socialisation.

That is why "Be nice" is such a red rag to many here.

titchy · 10/01/2022 15:33

@GeorgiaPass

Assuming that's in response to my question about what you disagreed with JKR about?

If so could you be specific and show us what she said that you disagree with?

Thank you Smile

GeorgiaPass · 10/01/2022 15:33

Yep totally get what you're saying

Thanks for explaining that it makes so much sense (and I do say the former too just didn't want to get in trouble for swearing too!)

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 10/01/2022 15:37

@GeorgiaPass

I like the idea of that :)

Love the name by the way!

It is based upon a horrid MP here, David Lammy, who really doesn't hink women should be allowed much at all!

www.heraldscotland.com/opinion/19617372.labour-party-done-better-trans-rights/

Helleofabore · 10/01/2022 15:37

If so could you be specific and show us what she said that you disagree with?

Actually, if Georgia did just this go away and read with good faith what Joanne Rowling has said and tell us exactly what she has said that is so worthy of the hate that she has been getting. That would be a great start.

UltraVividLament · 10/01/2022 15:39

No one gets in trouble for swearing here, unless you are swearing at another poster, generally.

I wonder why you feel that your female sex was only assumed at birth rather than correctly noted?

titchy · 10/01/2022 15:41

What she said is here by the way if you can't find it easily
Smile

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 10/01/2022 15:42

If you want to re-read someone elses digest of what she said and some repsonses to it, try this, usually very pro transpeople

www.glamour.com/story/a-complete-breakdown-of-the-jk-rowling-transgender-comments-controversy

Helleofabore · 10/01/2022 15:42

David Lammy - an MP that believes that women declaring that they need a different solution to the one currently in place, one that prioritising the safety and dignity of females in prison are dinosaurs who wish to hoard rights.

To which feminists say:

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 10/01/2022 15:42

I was looking for that Grin

GeorgiaPass · 10/01/2022 15:44

That wasn't exactly what I was trying to say, I was informed not to use the term AFAB where the second A has historically meant assigned but now there is discussions around using the word assumed in place of this. But of course, now I've been told not to use it on this forum at all I won't

I use the term in regard to myself because that is the way I have found works for me to describe my identity - I can't even begin to tell you why I have those feelings (I'm not dodging the question, I genuinely don't know where I'd start)

OhHolyJesus · 10/01/2022 15:44

You can swear here, I encourage it, it can do wonders for the blood pressure which many of us here experience in the high numbers.

I would give up most things in life if it meant something to someone else but I appreciate that's the easiest thing in the world to say sometimes

This is a depressing statement to read. As Hella says this is antithesis of what many posters here, what many feminists and women's rights activists, stand for.

There is a graphic I can't find right now but it says something like this

"In a world where you can be anything Be Kind clear about your boundaries."

I'll leave that with you and strongly encourage you to read around this board.

GeorgiaPass · 10/01/2022 15:45

Thanks :)

RoaringtoLangClegintheDark · 10/01/2022 15:46

David Lammy seems to think that women, female people, as a sex class, have too many rights already and should be giving some of them up to male people who don’t have enough “rights”.

I think that’s batshit. (And even a cursory glance at reality proves it so.) And also, it’s misogyny on steroids.

GeorgiaPass · 10/01/2022 15:48

Thanks and I love that statement

I am trying to be more like that
