So are we really not allowed to talk about Eddie at all?

My interest in Eddie Izzard is limited, but I have found it interesting how many threads about him have been zapped. Is there a reason for this?

Is this the MN version of Aimeeeeee Chancellor at Reddit? Does Eddie have some kind of sway around here?

Having seen EIs latest interview about the movie I can’t help but question whether Eddie is being entirely serious. Is Eddie secretly on our side?

gardenbird48 · 28/03/2021 11:40

Maybe trying to amend for the appalling way Eddie treated those 13 yr old girls who found Eddie in the ladies changing Eddie’s clothes?

I can live in hope

@backinthebox. All great points and not least that 'girl mode' for biological females who have not gone through male puberty results in decreased lung capacity, decreased muscle density, different bone structure, lower blood volume, fewer red blood cells, lessor height, lower weight, slower and less effective response to training and a significantly higher risk of injury.. and then 'girl mode' for biological female of similar age to EI would bring the menopausal impacts of lower bone density, weaker tendons and ligaments, slower metabolism, uterine or bladder prolapse.

ChateauMargaux · 28/03/2021 12:29

The fact that EI is in boy mode when he is earning money really should not be ignored.

I am unclear if EI hopes to stand for parliament in boy mode or in girl mode, however, what is clear is that he will not be able to erase his male privilege.

Floisme · 28/03/2021 12:35

I was watching 'Sleepless in Seattle' again recently and wondering whatever had happened to Meg Ryan. No need to ask that question about her co-star Tom Hanks though, even though he's 4 or 5 years older. If only Meg had known about 'boy mode'.

backinthebox · 28/03/2021 13:00

Regarding running for Parliament - I have no problem with anyone who dresses and lives their life however they want to live it, but the second they say something like ‘I want to be the first woman Labour PM’ or indeed the first ‘anything’ politician, it rings alarm bells in my head that being a politician in order to serve your interests of their constituents (even the ones they disagree with) is not first and foremost in their mind. A politician should be elected on what they bring to their constituents, not on the prestige it will bring to the candidate.

Feelinghothothottoday · 28/03/2021 21:37

Has MN explained why we can’t discuss EI?

powershowerforanhour · 28/03/2021 22:13

I go in girl mode or boy mode, which I see as a superhero thing.'

l like some of the comedy but have always had a sneaking suspicion that if EI was made of chocolate, EI would eat Eddyself.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 29/03/2021 12:25

If the first female labour PM were to actually be a man, I think that would sum up the current Labour Party perfectly tbh.
awaits deletion for daring to call Eddie Izzard a man

Well, they can delete me as well then. I have no problem with a trans woman as PM. I have a huge problem with someone born a man declaring themselves to be the first female anything!

@NiceGerbil

Eddie's latest revelation comes after the star revealed she spent much of her life secretly having 'breast envy' as she observed other women's bosoms.

Also

'It's no big deal. It's elastic, not hard and fast. I'm still gender-fluid. I'm still performing male roles in dramas, in boring mode. But stand-up, activism and endurance running are all girl mode.'

I saw EI on a charity thing where they were in a country where women were v oppressed and covered etc. For some reason EI was in boy mode for that.

Does that not count as activism though?

F that. Can I say that?
thinkingaboutLangCleg · 29/03/2021 22:46

I read earlier this week that if EI had been alive in 1930s Germany EI would have been killed. Is it me or is that quite offensive to the people who were actually murdered?

It certainly offends me. It's a kind of virtual Holocaust-tourism. And I very much doubt if EI would have performed in a dangerous place as he does in safety here and now.

RabbitOfCaerbannog · 29/03/2021 23:55

Well it's lucky for EI that EI was born during an era when EI was able to make shedloads of money on a comedy circuit that was no doubt sexist and discriminatory, if not hostile towards women. Thankfully we can now draw a line under the "are women funny" question since EI is the funniest of all UK comediennes according to a recent, not at all sexist, poll.

daysofthunder · 30/03/2021 00:11

I think that the fact that Eddie refers to "boy mode" as "boring" says a lot about his personal issues.

LunaNorth · 30/03/2021 04:57

I find EI’s ‘boy mode’ quite boring, too.

And EI’s ‘girl mode’.

Needmoresleep · 30/03/2021 06:13

Surely EI proves women can be funny. Hmm

toffeebutterpopcorn · 30/03/2021 08:04

I’m not laughing. But then I never found them funny anyway.

Feelinghothothottoday · 30/03/2021 09:33

Use to like EI. Thought the marathon thing was fantastic. Can’t stand EI now. They are taking the mick.

Bordois · 30/03/2021 09:47

Pothole, I was deleted for referencing a whole book on that subject, and also deleted for asking why links to factual information were being deleted.

PotholeHellhole · 30/03/2021 09:49

You're kidding me.

Where is a Captain Picard gif when you need one!

daysofthunder · 30/03/2021 09:59

@Bordois

Pothole, I was deleted for referencing a whole book on that subject, and also deleted for asking why links to factual information were being deleted.

Deleted for saying "he" and "him" despite Eddie himself saying in recent interviews to call him either as he "switches modes"

Well sorry mumsnet but I don't know which mode Eddie wakes up in each morning so I'll be sticking with "he" since he's biologically a man.

Hmm
CardinalLolzy · 30/03/2021 10:08

Threads about individuals in the public eye are always fairly heavily moderated ime. Doesn't take much to trigger a libel claim in the UK (our libel laws are a whole topic in itself - look up Simon Singh) and I don't really blame mnhq for being careful.

EI keeps getting headlines because people click on it. They'll get bored soon.
