So are we really not allowed to talk about Eddie at all?

My interest in Eddie Izzard is limited, but I have found it interesting how many threads about him have been zapped. Is there a reason for this?

Is this the MN version of Aimeeeeee Chancellor at Reddit? Does Eddie have some kind of sway around here?

OP posts:
Doyoumind · 25/03/2021 10:58

Ffs. Just seen the thread I started last night specifically designed to remain in the spirit and which didn't even name EI in anything I wrote has been zapped. Not sure what ended up on there. Did anyone see it before it went?

JulesJules · 25/03/2021 11:05

I wonder if I were to try boy mode myself, I could identify my boobs as fake rather than real. My real ones are trying to kill me, which I don't find very enviable.

It's weird. There is, as someone pointed out, whole threads picking apart Harry's failures. There's a whole thread laughing at Orlando bloom. But you can't laugh at EI.

It grates particularly on a day when Reddit has had to admit that failing to hold people to the same standards as everyone else because of their transgender status is a commercially disastrous decision as well as being ethically questionable.

WendyTestaburger · 25/03/2021 11:33

Excellent last post difficultbloodywoman

I have screenshot it in case it also gets disappeared.

I don't remember your other posts but perhaps all these deletions & re writings are making you hone your point in a particularly eloquent way. This last one has stuck with me and is extremely well phrased. I share all your concerns.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 25/03/2021 11:38

We can talk about EI in reverential terms. But only in those terms.

I linked to a book that wae about what the Nazis permitted when it came to clothes if they were worn by some classes of people.

foxhat · 25/03/2021 11:52

It's misogynistic to see the posts which express concern about what this ideology is doing to females being deleted. It makes me cross to see that happen when on other posts high levels of abuse to other posters are tolerated. Sadly we live in world which increasingly can't debate things which effectively is hanging more power to the already powerful. History is going to judge this time very, very poorly.

This. Is this really a good time to start following the "shield people with certain identities from accountability at all costs, no matter what they say or do" approach of other sites?

Vargas · 25/03/2021 12:18

Wow, I think that's the first ever post of mine that got zapped. Racking my brain trying to figure out why. Anyway, is it ok if I say this? - 'EI is a god/dess and should be in charge of the entire world and we should all bow down to his/her obviously superior mode of being'.

I am going into coffee mode now, might try out tea mode later.

QuentinWinters · 25/03/2021 12:23

Thread was deleted as "not in the spirit". Unclear what in particular provoked it. Its left me feeling that there are certain aspects of gender fluidity that can't be discussed here, which is a shame.
I wish the mods would be more specific about "the spirit"

Bluesername · 25/03/2021 12:28

No to cancelling un-woke opinions!

HopeClearwater · 25/03/2021 12:36

@QuentinWinters I wish the mods would be more specific about "the spirit"

It's a catch-all phrase though, for when you can't (or don't feel able to) be specific.

Indeed - I feel gender fluidity raises some particularly issues that it would be useful to be able to discuss on a feminism board
Doyoumind · 25/03/2021 13:10

My thread was entirely based on discussing gender fluidity and its impact on women. I thought that would be allowed, particularly as it didn't name any names, but clearly I was wrong.

The whole EI thing is bizarre. People falling over themselves to use female pronouns when EI is comfortable and working successfully in boy mode.

It's about anything trans. You can't talk about trans stuff.

It's not going to stop me saying what I think and I'm glad it's not stopping other posters. I wonder how many of us here are on multiple new accounts because we keep getting banned for talking openly on threads about trans issues.

WeRoarSometimes · 25/03/2021 13:13

All of the privilege that comes with being a White Middle Aged Male in Europe.
It still isn't enough though is it?

Melroses · 25/03/2021 13:17

When you have a group of people who cannot be criticised, then it becomes desirable to be one of them.

Leafstamp · 25/03/2021 13:22

As someone said before, in answer to the question in the OP, there are people who lurk on these boards and just report posts. And that threads/posts are more likely to get deleted if they've received reports.

There are also people who post to provoke a "gotcha".

I'm also not going to stop posting what I think, but I will be careful not to take the bait by people who are not posting in good faith.

It's not even about Izzard, it's not personal.

It's about the concept of switching between modes of presentation and claiming they're related to biological sex.

Izzard in 'girl' mode is ceded all the rights and access reserved for people of the opposite sex. And then also claims the privileges and credibility of being a biological male.

That the concept isn't met with instant incredulity is a testament to the rampant sexism required to accept it.

WendyTestaburger · 25/03/2021 13:25

I actually think most of us jump repeatedly through the required mental hoops in order to avoid being banned.

I see it as yet another unofficial tax on our time and mental labour. Another example of the structural oppression we face which some members of society seem so very blind to.

I meant to quote the above. This post reads as if it is encouraging other posters to stop being so careful.
