So are we really not allowed to talk about Eddie at all?

My interest in Eddie Izzard is limited, but I have found it interesting how many threads about him have been zapped. Is there a reason for this?

Is this the MN version of Aimeeeeee Chancellor at Reddit? Does Eddie have some kind of sway around here?

@Itreallytiedtheroomtogether

I read an article the other day which stated that he will dress in a sober shirt and jacket to run as a politician - this girl mode is not for politics then Hmm
It’s..its...almost as if the whole concept of boy mode and girl mode is...howlingly sexist, isn’t it? Shock

I wonder if this thread will survive? They do seem to be getting vanished at a rate of knots.

(Also, excellent username, BTW)

I'd probably switch to boy mode for running, increased heart and lung capacity, twitch fibres, testosterone, no risk of incontinence, prolapse, periods, painful heavy breasts etc.

justanotherneighinparadise · 25/03/2021 08:02

@Puddycatfan

Are we even allowed to think about EI? Will they know if I think about EI? What about even in passing? Will a klaxon sound at MNHQ if I do?

You aren’t supposed to make personal comments. Not sure why - haven’t we all had little spats on here. Maybe those in the public eye are more delicate or something.

ANewCreation · 25/03/2021 08:17

'Boy' mode? 'Girl' mode?

Eddie has political ambitions.

Here is Baroness Thornton, Labour peer, bringing the Equality Act to the Lords, in Hansard, explaining who the protected characteristic of gender reassignment (clause 7) was designed to protect

"The point I was making is that that is the range of things that could happen for a transsexual person.

However, Clause 7 does not cover transvestites or others who choose temporarily to adopt the appearance of the opposite gender.

While we do not condone anyone being treated badly because of the way in which they present themselves, it would not be appropriate to provide people who present themselves temporarily as of a gender other than their birth gender with the same protection against discrimination that is available to a person with gender dysphoria, who is somebody who has been assigned one gender at birth, but believes that they are of another gender. That is the point—it is what happens to that person that the Bill attempts to address."

I bet the colleague I was talking to yesterday, who is an expert in her field and THE most expert person in any room currently, who is constantly sidelined, ignored, talked over, wishes she could adopt boy mode and resolve it all. As it is, she’s left with leaving her job in frustration.

I see Eddie continues to act in boy mode. Good for her. The range of roles for middle-aged woman remains on the large pitiful so you can see why. The last film I saw her in acting a man had almost no substantial female roles other than the one filled by Judi Dench. She could have been the housekeeper I suppose.

Perhaps they are simply bored of EI. If only the rest of us could draw a discreet green curtain across the Izzard of Was.
NotBadConsidering · 25/03/2021 09:08

We know that, generally speaking, threads are deleted when they get lots of reports. We also know that a poster here just a few days ago disclosed they sit on threads, don’t post but report, report, report, anything they view as “transphobia”.

The logical conclusion is that there are some people with a vested interest in not letting people air their views about Izzard, a person who is doing their best to be an elected official, who stated in a national newspaper that they had “boob envy”.

At what point can we freely talk about Izzard in the same way there are multiple threads about Johnson, Hancock, etc? Or can we never discuss Izzard’s behaviour, word, actions?

Maybe @MichaelMumsnet or @HebeMumsnet can clarify. Izzard isn’t going away, will be a regular feature in the news, continues to claim “girl mode” is a thing, and could well be a member of Parliament in the future. You can’t expect us to never talk about Izzard, so some clarity about how would be great.

Also, I've ventured onto a few threads about Prince Harry recently and he definitely is not getting the protections EI seems to be getting on here.

Prince Harry is also not doing bloody dodgy stuff by referring to himself as a girl or his obsession with boobs. So a lot less reason for criticism and concern IMO. In fact, he's no longer paid for by the taxpayer, doesn't live here anymore and is not standing for public office.

I've seen many posts saying Prince Harry is dim, he's racist. FWIW I think people should be free to say that about a public figure that has put himself out there for criticism, but I really don't understand the double standards.

Imnobody4 · 25/03/2021 09:45

I think zapping the threads is a bit unfair to EI. I'm pretty sure he'd agree with Oscar

"There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about,
and that is not being talked about."

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 25/03/2021 09:48
Of course the endurance running is in girl mode. Otherwise who the fuck would care?!

Other than the people who did care when he did it in 2016 and raised 1.6 million for Sport releif, you mean?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35599544
Jimmy Savile also raised huge amounts for charity.

To be clear: I’m obviously not equating Izzard with Savile in the slightest in terms of Savile’s heinous, predatory crimes.

Just making the point that just because someone raises a lot of money for charity doesn’t mean they should be automatically be lionised/be beyond reproach.

AdaFuckingShelby · 25/03/2021 09:56

@HopeClearwater

I wonder if there is any part of EI’s day that EI is not thinking about Eddie’s own self.

The only pronouns EI requires are me, me, me, me, me...

Completely agree. The endurance running documentary a few years ago was illuminating in that regard. Totally turned me off him ( as he was referring to himself then), it was an exercise in 'look at me I'm amazing'

Well, this turned to Swiss cheese very quickly!

There were two parts to my post and I am not sure which caused the deletion. But they seem to have been covered by others so I’ll just leave it there.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 25/03/2021 10:44

The best thread I saw recently was one where the OP was deleted so I had no ideas what was going on!

GoldfinchCharm · 25/03/2021 10:46

Yep. This.

The main thing is that we are not put off talking about EI, and all the other male bodied "women" impacting the lives of females. They can keep trying to censor, and we persistently and politely keep trying. And if the censorship goes much further, then the appeal of the board goes, and this has to move elsewhere.

IloveJKRowling · 25/03/2021 10:49

Just making the point that just because someone raises a lot of money for charity doesn’t mean they should be automatically be lionised/be beyond reproach

Indeed and in fact what happened with Savile shows that it is ACTIVELY DANGEROUS to give people a free pass just because they do a lot of charity work or have some kind of special status.
