That headline!

Reddit cuts ties with controversial trans activist

Controversial! Controversial is Brexit. Or the NHS 1% payrise.

SunsetBeetch · 26/03/2021 06:35

That's a new low for Pink News. Wowzers.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 26/03/2021 07:23

"Silicon Valley reveals its phoney morality yet again" unherd.com/thepost/silicon-valley-reveals-its-phoney-morality-yet-again/

Mumofgirlswholiketoplaywithmud · 26/03/2021 07:47

Oh yes, of course Pink news, the story here is that it's just women trying to smear a whole movement of activists.

It's not that somehow someone with an inability to understand safeguarding; who is married to someone who is a professed paedophile; and who is themselves an ABDL; gets easy access to vulnerable teenage children through their Reddit privelages; and who is able to use the threat of other people being denounced as bigots and phobes to avoid any criticism or accountability.

No, it's the wimmin who are the main baddies. Of course.

ChakaDakotaRegina · 26/03/2021 07:48

Considering what gets people ‘cancelled’ these days, I am utterly utterly bewildered by this case.

And P news can get fucked.

tangerinelollipop · 26/03/2021 08:42

Just my 2 cents as I'm not well versed on these issues at all.

But what immediately struck me about this story is, why any politician with a very high profile role would seek employment as a moderator/admin on a forum which is supposed to be a very low profile job. It seems at least counterintuitive for a lay person and a sign that something is off

People (and the young, in particular) should be more aware of the complex structures and networks that exist behind the scenes in any of these platforms and how easily they can be used to shape and manipulate public opinion and push agendas - while still going largely unnoticed

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/03/2021 08:46

That's an excellent point.

Aaaaaand this is what has been going on under the radar for years.
WarriorN · 26/03/2021 10:01

Gosh yes, everywhere.

Given that many children who end up going through GIDS cite finding out about things via things like Reddit and tumblr, and also spend a huuuuge amount of time on there, it's a worry.

Those same individuals then spend their lives on the internet and in forums. And so it's a logical outcome to become a mod.

"Politicians" who've grown up like that know the influence they can have via SM platforms.

Xanthangum · 26/03/2021 10:29

Not casting any aspersions here whatsoever, but I did find it odd that Nick Clegg's first job after being Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom was with Facebook.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 26/03/2021 10:51

Increasing public affairs investment at the big tech companies.

RoyalCorgi · 26/03/2021 11:21

TheRabbit - there's a very significant revelation in that UnHerd piece: "It was Challenor who spearheaded the deletion of some Gender Critical sub-reddits viewed as ‘anti-trans’, via an open letter to the company in 2020."

We all suspected that, but now it's been confirmed. Has anyone seen the open letter?

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 26/03/2021 11:40

Interesting- I haven't

The open letter is on Reddit here (and archived here). It expresses seemingly noble sentiments and intentions, weaponised to silence certain dissenters and target only certain views as "hate."

Women Are Human has the details on the impact of the letter and a mention of Challenor's involvement - be advised that the WAH article is fairly sickening due to the content Reddit continue to allow.

RoyalCorgi · 26/03/2021 12:00

Thanks for that, Genesis1v27. Extraordinary, isn't it?

PearPickingPorky · 26/03/2021 14:46

I find it incredible how many men get angry with Glinner for not being kind to men.

But find it entirely unremarkable how so many men are being extremely unkind (read: abusive and threatening) to women.

Turn out sex matters a lot.

NecessaryScene1 · 26/03/2021 14:51

I find it incredible how many men get angry with Glinner for not being kind to men.

I know. Check out this Jesse Singal shitshow:

twitter.com/jessesingal/status/1375232630527045635

I think Graham often acts in a cruel way, whether it's posing as a trans woman on lesbian dating sites, bashing random powerless people from the internet, and so on. He shoots himself in the foot repeatedly.

Wow the responses to this! If you don't think his goal here is to make his point by being as cruel as possible and to mock trans women, I don't know what to tell you. It's perfectly possible to talk about self-ID and other subjects without resorting to this crap.

But all the amazing replies! Nice ratio, Jesse.

I generally think Jesse's pretty great, but I hope Katie calls him out on this. If not publicly, at she should stage a lesbian intervention privately.

SunsetBeetch · 26/03/2021 21:17

You're all going to be shocked that Parker Molloy, who tried to oust @glinner from Substack, is a terrible person.

'The blogger and “activist” caused quite a stir this year when she accused RuPaul — yes, RuPaul — of being transphobic in an angry op-ed published by The Advocate followed by an unprovoked hate tweet that read: “I fucking hate @RuPaul. Like… there really very are few people I truly hate. He is one of them.” If that wasn’t bad enough, later in the year Molloy lashed out at trans writer Kelsie Jones, telling her to “cut yourself…stupid cunt…drink bleach…die in a fire,” earning herself a spot on the Trans Violence Tracking Portal, a website dedicated to “collecting data on anti-transgender violence in order to protect the transgender community in real time.” '

Maybe you should write about her next, @glinner?

Graham and Arty discuss Jesse (and Katie) in an "", at the head of the episode.

GL: It won't save you, condemning me, and sharing only partial versions of what I did, to make me look bad. That won't save you! I don't know why these people think they're suddenly going to be suddenly forgiven by some of the most psychotic activists in the world because they throw me under the bus. You know? They won't save you. They'll keep on lying about Jesse Singal until the end of time.

AM: It's the hardest thing, because it breaks my heart, because I actually am so upset about what happened to Jesse. And as much as I don't entirely agree with Jesse, I'm sympathetic to him and I always have been. So it really upsets me - I'm so angry with him right now. Literally I asked for, I literally asked a teensy bit of support for Graham, and he's like "nah, can't do that". What a jerk!

(More nuanced discussion follows, but upset Arty's always cute).

SunsetBeetch · 27/03/2021 08:17

So, so disappointed in Jesse Singal. He KNOWS how TRAs lie and twist things and hound people. They do it to him too fgs!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/03/2021 08:20

I'm not disappointed in him, he's never been much of a feminist ally and happy to distance himself from GC women.

Strong stomach needed:

But perhaps the most disturbing revelation on this page is that ‘Baloo’ also volunteered with a children’s gymnastics groupp**. After he was jailed it emerged that he had a YouTube account which remains up and includes a favourites playlist. Most of the videos on the list are of very young girls being seriously injured while performing gymnastics.

And many more

Sorry didn't realise it would link to that film.
