@Bordois

Have any of the people that dogpiled *@glinner* when he called out issues with AC made any kind of statement yet?
Hmmmn....

I'm glad to see Glinner's blog getting shared widely due to this. He and his other writers have done a great job on this.

RoyalCorgi · 25/03/2021 15:25

Yeah. Owen Jones and Billy Bragg have offered profuse and sincere apologies.

Only kidding! Think of it as an early April fool.

Bordois · 25/03/2021 15:26

@SunsetBeetch

Gosh, Kev: whilst I think your assessment of what constitutes transphobia is probably a bit off, maybe you could have a bit of a ponder about why left wing and woke circles don't discuss things like this.
By the rules of wokedom, doesn't agreeing with a "side" on one thing also mean you agree with them on everything?
SunsetBeetch · 25/03/2021 15:30

You are right, Bordois! Hoist by their own petard.

andyoldlabour · 25/03/2021 15:55

"By the rules of wokedom, doesn't agreeing with a "side" on one thing also mean you agree with them on everything?"

Going against the party manifesto results in expulsion to the gulags.

WarriorN · 25/03/2021 16:34

@KatieAlcock

By the way, it is possible that AC's advice to GG is all in AC's mind, as GG have denied it. The badge AC displays is one given to paying donors. It would have behoved GG to condemn AC's virtue signalling though.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHY was AC attempting to butter up the girl guides. Why would you do that? What was the point?

WarriorN · 25/03/2021 16:36

"I hate I agree with transphobes...."

Really not getting it.

WarriorN · 25/03/2021 16:48

There's a specific area of safeguarding training that's very pertinent here.

It's about that overall culture within an organisation that blurs what's appropriate or not.

It applies to all workplaces; clearly the met need it and definitely Reddit do.

Within schools (as with anywhere) it's recognising that culture of the overbaring dominant, charismatic member of staff who no one wants be in the wrong side of, who starts to push appropriate boundaries eg private out of work meetings with the nqt, or flippant remarks that are spun as jokes but actually upset people.

This has the potential to leave employees afraid to query or question or challenge.

Little teds nursery was mentioned a lot; the abuser had a strong character and people didn't query various red flags.

If the employees in a whole organisation are immune to red flags, and the leaders are 'bullet proof' and not questioned, it leads to a culture where things like this happen.

There's many organisations we discuss here I'd say clearly are unaware of what's appropriate.

Some people seem to self-appoint themselves as experts and then get people consulting them as if they really were an authority.

WarriorN · 25/03/2021 16:50

Yes I see that in education a lot now, outside "experts" .... especially RSE. HmmHmmHmm

Are glinner's pages all archived? I worry it will all go poof.

I hope he's got it all secure, but there are an awful lot of people watching what Substack does now. I don't think they can afford the bad press from touching him.

He's the current nominal focus of the huge anti-Substack going on among loopy Americans. They're also after all the other people like Greenwald, Sullivan, Taibbi, Weiss, but seeing if they can start by picking off Linehan.

They were already going at Glinner, but now they're super narked because of the extra exposure from the Challenor thing. They want that site down now.

As I said above, Reddit has already totally blocked Glinner's site from linking at admin level.

All the other writers are firmly supporting him, if a bit equivocal about what he writes. For example, Glenn Greenwald:

twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/1375079174440955912

Just as the current epidemic of online censorship began with the age-old tactic of targeting someone widely disliked (Milo, then Alex Jones), these censors are trying to create a censorship precedent for Substack by forcing them to boot one bad writer, then expand from there

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/03/2021 17:09

Thank you for this useful summary, I had seen bits and pieces in passing but not linked the attack on Glinner with the pressure to censor other writers.

SunsetBeetch · 25/03/2021 17:15

He's actually a very good writer.

Fgs this is NOT a good look. Glinner has done a lot of work in informing people about the Challenors.

Xanthangum · 25/03/2021 17:21

why was AC attempting to butter up the girl guides?

transcrimeuk.com/2018/08/22/david-challenor/

The Sunday Times article also reports that David Challenor worked as an assistant Scout leader and volunteer with a children’s gymnastics group which raises further grave questions regarding the safeguarding procedures and DBS checks which should have prevented Challenor from certain roles as he had a previous conviction, his children had been taken into care and he was charged with the most grave offences against a child.

The dates he worked for these organisations is unclear. Aimee Challenor has advocated for the controversial policy adopted by the Girl Guides to allow boys to self-identify as girls and therefore access female showering and sleeping facilities at camp without informing parents that their daughters will effectively be staying in mixed-sex accommodation.

WarriorN · 25/03/2021 17:26

Ah I'd forgotten that; how the name Baloo came about

SunsetBeetch · 25/03/2021 17:29

Incredibly ironic that Parker and crew are employing the same tactics as the Reddit mods used to oust Aimee Challenor...

WarOnWomen · 25/03/2021 18:20

There are a lot of seemingly dodgy people in charge of social media sites or at least have some level power on those sites. Reddit is rife with rumours of admins etc whose views run counter to safeguarding.

This all comes back to queer theory and it's link with anarchy. If you believe that there are no boundaries in sexuality and identity then the last boundary is age. And we know that the queer theorists and gender identity believers are changing organisations by stealth. More so when it comes to social media as they are hugely influential. I bet if we looked at the people in charge/in control, we we would find a whole collection of queer theorists.

MichelleofzeResistance · 25/03/2021 19:18

We've been shouting for years here. Make one biological reality a matter of choice instead of fact and the precedent is there for all the others.

Bravo @glinner

Xanthangum · 25/03/2021 20:31

Love that @glinner

WarriorN · 25/03/2021 21:03

Fabulous Glinner.

Not surprised you're exhausted!

MichelleofzeResistance · 25/03/2021 21:13

Well said that man.

And we have the PinkNews spin....

www.pinknews.co.uk/2021/03/25/reddit-aimee-knight-challenor-admin-subreddit-blackout-protest-backlash-transphobia/

“Reddit has officially severed ties with trans activist and former Green Party politician Aimee Knight after hundreds of subreddits went private to protest her hiring.”

“Knight was suspended from the party in 2018 after it emerged that she appointed her father David Challenor as her election agent, despite the fact that he was charged with raping and torturing a 10-year-old girl in 2016. He was convicted in August 2018 and sentenced to 22 years in prison.”

“She later joined the Liberal Democrats, but the party distanced itself from her when her then-fiancé and now husband Nathaniel Knight was accused of fantasising about child sexual abuse on Twitter. At the time, she claimed that his account had been hacked. She later moved to the United States.”

Blah blah blah last para

“Through the controversy, Aimee Knight has been dogged by transphobic abuse on Twitter. Countless “gender critical” accounts have seized upon her appointment at Reddit in an effort to baselessly link the trans rights movement with child abuse.”

Ummm ‘baselessly’.... checks dictionary for ‘baseless’, comes to conclusion that Pink News are using their special dictionary again.
