'Imagine if transactivists hadn't targeted a rape refuge in Vancouver relentlessly for years, depriving them of funds, targeting the vulnerable women there, nailing a dead rat to the door and just this week getting a crowdfunder worth thousands of pounds taken down out of spite.

Don't bother trying to take the moral high ground. This war was brought to women not the other way around.'

If a few people in Canada were representative of a couple of hundred thousand people in the UK, you'd have a point. Sadly, the ruling Tory party have stripped vital funding from refuges, both trans and non trans inclusive for almost ten years. If you're willing to join them in a deflection that would shame most tin pot dictators by blaming the few trans folk who use them today then there is little more I can say.

There's no moral high ground to be had in the safety of vulnerable people.

Go ask Stonewall for some of their millions then, a lot of which they've spent trying to remove women's rights for a number of years. Or is it just grassroots women's groups who are patronised about what they use their money for?

Trans orgs are awash with money and wealthy benefactors I'm sure they could build a dozen refuges if that actually mattered to them. They don't because it's not what interests them. Legislating women out of existence is what they care about so that's where the money goes. FPFW's 100k raised is a drop in the ocean compared to that.

Next time that I hear someone moaning that budget cuts mean that the state can no longer do x, y, or z; I shall check to see if that organisation is on Stonewall's list. I can then suggest a way in which said police force can afford to investigate a burglary or the health service can afford bursaries.

Imagine if all stats were made up of people lying about reality.

Well done FPFW!

No matter how ‘rationale’ the discourse is, there will always be the ones claiming that women have not the interest of vulnerable groups at heart. Why should we care for everyone?

Well... we do fight for our children, our most vulnerable women, we have our hands full and our pockets empty. When we fight for accurate data to place resources as fairly as possible, there are those who are happy to distort it. Why establishing the number, nature and condition of the UK trans population is such a let down for trans allies? Shouldn’t they be the first people interested in having accurate data? It’s really lying on the census the best they can do?
What a strange world some live in!

CardinalLolzy · 18/03/2021 08:14

Imagine if nobody kicked up a stink in an effort to shove it to the trans people.Trans women would have ticked female as they have done for decades, trans men would have ticked male as they have done for decades and the NHS would have used the number of GP/other professional referrals to the woefully inadequate GIC system to try and inform their funding decisions in this field.

This isn't clear so can you please clarify? Are you suggesting a way to try and reverse engineer data in order to find out how many people of which biological sex there are? Could you outline the steps and data sources a bit more clearly, and explain why you think this is more accurate than just counting the number of people of either sex in the census?

Or are you saying there is no need to know how many people of each biological sex there are in this country?

This is such an odd take. This started with lobbyists trying to manipulate what came out of the census. It wasn't an administrative error in the guidance. This was having a shove at single-sex services planning. They rocked the boat!

Yes, this.

I think actual trans people benefit from having accurate data that does not conflate sex and gender, so they can have tailored services (something there have been repeated calls for).

I think most of the trans lobbyists however have another agenda and improving the lives of normal trans people is not their main priority.

Helleofabore · 18/03/2021 09:32

Trans women would have ticked female as they have done for decades, trans men would have ticked male as they have done for decades

Except it has been a decade since the last census and do you not read the news. The number of people expected to get a GRC when it was brought in was about 5K. (And is only now estimated at 6K). There has been an unexpectedly huge increase in numbers over the past decade. So.... if those who lied on their census papers in the past were the only ones to do so now or those with GRCs ticked the relevant box, not so many... but this census would be effected significantly.

and the NHS would have used the number of GP/other professional referrals to the woefully inadequate GIC system to try and inform their funding decisions in this field.

And you obviously ignored the very poor record keeping as evidenced in court with the Keira Bell case. The truth is pretty dire and unreliable too.

So, why would any group put their chance to improve the quality of their care at risk? Virtual signaling? For a political stunt that will backfire. So be it, but then that group needs to be accountable to the next generation for the lack of facilities and services. Because they are obviously not needed anymore according to the census. And the poor records of the NHS.

Wasn’t their someone called Shon who cried ‘enjoy your erasure’ to women not so long ago?

PandorasMailbox · 18/03/2021 10:54

That was Shon Faye. Who, ironically, by ticking the wrong sex box on the census, is now ensuring the erasure of their own services Grin

Just had a very interesting conversation with the ONS- they are investigating 3 TRAs for fraudulently filling in the sex question on the census and inciting others to do the same.
They are escalating my complaint immediately ✊

Helleofabore · 18/03/2021 10:58

Virtual signaling? is Virtue signalling of course. (that was an autocarrot change!)

Damn, I hate typing long posts on a phone screen.

Fantastic Imnobody4 I very much hope that one of them is a very vocal Green party member
