Emma Bateman, Co Chair of Green Party Women suspended for Querying Whether Transwomen are Female

gardenbird48 · 16/03/2021 13:09

Emma Bateman
@EmmaBatemanGPW
On March 8th, International Women's Day, I was suspended from the Green Party following a complaint by 2 fellow GPW committee members

Because I queried whether trans women are female.
Green Party policy is that 'trans women are women'

Now we must agree that they are also female

I thought Emma had gone a bit quiet since the weekend where they voted down a motion to support sex based rights.

It turns out that Emma might have been forced to accept the language re. transwomen are women but queried whether they are actually female. They objected to that as well obviously.

I guess it was only a matter of time as Kathryn Bristow's stated focus from the start was to take down Emma (rather than actually do any for women).

After Spring Conference I was poised to resign, but hung on to try to change things from within, whilst withdrawing my physical support (and telling them why!)
But this, no, I can't do this anymore.
They've won 😳😭

highame · 16/03/2021 15:39

They haven't won yet. There's warfare all over the place. Flowers take heart

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 16/03/2021 15:46

This is loopy. The Green Party had so few votes before. This is going to finish them off.
I would be sorry but they've not priotised green issues for a long time.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 16/03/2021 15:46

The greens have lost the plot. I thought they were all about saving the planet - not sending it to hell in a handcart.

What have they been smoking?

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 16/03/2021 15:52

They suspended her on Women's Day too.Shock

BoeotianNightmare · 16/03/2021 15:59

Im horrified. I've actually voted Green in the past when I knew they had zero chance and it might let in the party I didn't want because I care so deeply about the climate. Not a member, never will be a member of a political party but I supported then. I presume I could easily find their stance on the issue in their published policies?

CrossPurposes · 16/03/2021 15:59

When I cancelled my membership there was a box to fill in asking why. Though I'm not sure if it is likely to be read since the confirmation email said "Hey XX,

We're sorry to see you go. We hope you enjoyed using our service. Remember, you can come back any time you like."

WeRoarSometimes · 16/03/2021 16:01

The Green Party desperately wants government, industry and consumers to look at the science behind climate heating and the impact on our environments. Or at least it used to.

But this 'male/female' bit of science appears to be a less convenient for them.

I wonder why that is.....

flyingfoxkins · 16/03/2021 16:01

Ive left and Ive told them why. Sadly, this was almost inevitable.

Sophoclesthefox · 16/03/2021 16:01

They have gone totally tonto.

It was completely obvious to me that it was never going to be possible to not cede the word female, as well as woman. And here we are.

Greens used to be my occasional second vote. Absolutely not now.

I did the same and feel the same Sad

If anyone is in touch with Emma, please send my appreciation for her courage and integrity. And to other GP members who have been trying to fight this from within.

I was a Labour/Green voter, politically homeless for several years now. I admire those that have stayed but this level of woman-hating is utterly beyond the pale.

MeltsAway · 16/03/2021 16:10

I was wondering how soon the other Co-Chair of the Women's group would stab their co-chair in the back.

Emma Bateman has been thrown to the lions. Because women shouldn't lead, obvs. Their job in the green movement is making the herbal tea (I really d have experience of this kind of sexist treatment of women in the environmental movement. The men are appallingly sexist & predatory. Bloody hippies).

Summerhillsquare · 16/03/2021 16:11

I saw a few doughty campaigners from my local area supporting Emma on that thread. I've the ones who do all the work in the party, and come across well to the electorate.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 16/03/2021 16:14

Jesus wept.

Can I blame Patrick Harvie for this? I like blaming him for things.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 16/03/2021 16:22

I can't believe this - I'm happy to go along with TWAW in law and society, that's fine, I don't care how people dress or what body modifications they do in order to make themselves feel happy. Well, as long as those people are adults.

But, what am I missing? In which was is someone with a gender issue able to switch sex?

Does this mean that the Green Party actually BELIEVES in something which is, erm not sciencey?

Justhadathought · 16/03/2021 16:56

An earth centred party that doesn't recognise or understand biology and life on earth.......Interesting times.

Justhadathought · 16/03/2021 16:59

Back to grassroots environmental groups for real change

I think it a shame that the Greens jettisoned the Ecology party name.Ecology actually represents a wholistic system and a way of understanding the earth and its natural cycles and balance.

The Greens have become ideology bound and totally inflexible.

Juliesipadwillcallyouback · 16/03/2021 17:05

Wow, so they have a male and a female as Co-chairs of Green Party Women, and now the female has been chucked out for not believing that men can become women? So the chair that is left of Green Party Women is a male? And this is the person that said 'sex based rights has been defeated'?

You could not make this shit up? What the fuck do the Greens think they are doing? How can anyone think this is OK, it's utterly bizarre!

AIMD · 16/03/2021 17:14

I don’t feel like this is something you can say anywhere without being attacked.

There is literally no way you can phrase questions about sex and gender without being called transphobic if your view is anything other than trans women are women.

SirVixofVixHall · 16/03/2021 17:16

So depressing, when the environment is such an enormous issue and the Greens need seats in the house to help address this.
I have voted Green in the past but can’t possibly do so now.
I have no idea who I actually can vote for !

flyingfoxkins · 16/03/2021 17:17

The Greens, the Lib Dems and Labour - all of the left of centre parties just seem to be eating themselves. What do they think the voting public are actually going to make of all this.

SirVixofVixHall · 16/03/2021 17:17

Same.
gardenbird48 · 16/03/2021 17:24

And this recent transitioner has confirmed that they have put themselves down as female on the census (no GRC) and is encouraging others to respond to the Sex question with false information as well.

It is supposed to be an offence to put false information on the census - I have no idea how that would be prosecuted as the information is supposed to be confidential but there must be a way otherwise there is no point of making it a prosecutable offence.

It is quite astonishing that this person not only uses their GPW platform to promote their employer, Gendergp but openly admits committing a criminal (?) offence. Obviously the bar in the Green Party is pretty low (A. Challenor demonstrating this) but surely they can’t think this person is fit for public office??

May as well when he blames right-wing evangelicals for GC viewpoints and goes about deriding women in Parliament.

May as well blame him for all sorts, really - stubbing your toe (thanks Patrick!), forgetting to take the bins out (thanks Patrick!), the downfall of civilisation as we know it as the Earth burns and the Greens potter around with pronouns (thanks Patrick!)
