Trans rights are a part of women's rights

Trans people don't negatively affect women's rights. They are a part of the women's rights. Both trans men and trans women experience oppression based on being female/a woman.

@Gerla

*What do transwomen and women have in common? How are we in any way the same?*

I would like to know this too. I have nothing in common with a TW. That doesn't mean that I am taking away anyone's rights, it's just a statement of fact. I do have a lot in common with other women - our biology. Do we not deserve a word to describe ourselves?

Very much this. And it's ok to be different, that doesn't mean we can't get along and be friends. But we are not the same and that's fine.

In these cases, similar to flat earthers Scientologists etc I always wonder if the person spouting their views as @ASugar did in the op actually believe them. Like properly deep down believe them and if so what has caused them to have such a disconnect with reality.
Half the time I am sure they are just playing a joke on the rest of humanity. I mean we are here discussing what a woman is when everyone knows it's the name for the female half of the species.

Humans are a binary, I am sorry if you don't like that and wish it was another way, but you can't go around shouting at people cause nature hasn't arranged things to be the way you want.

"As long as you respect mine as She/Her then I have no issue with that"

People on this forum usually refer to posters by name, not by pronoun. If I was in a room talking to Steve/Stephanie, then I wouldn't refer to them as He/Her I would refer to them by name.

I sometimes am addressed as "sir" in wrong by Middle Eastern and African customers in my job. Should I complain about being mis-gendered?

It's probably more triggering for them to deal with a woman at their level than it is for me to be called something I'm categorically not.

As a feminist I find their position regressive, but as a well-rounded human I can see that imposing my western influences standards on the rest of the world isn't going to change anything. So I just get on with things.

EightiesRobot · 04/03/2021 10:28

Transmen's rights are absolutely part of women's rights as they have been affected by sex-based discrimination and we can see where that has led with the massive increase in young girls diagnosed with gender dysphasia, evidence coming out from whistleblowers at the Tavistock and Keira Bell's JR. More needs to be done to support these young people and I think most women here would agree with that.

Hi

We're seeing a lot of commentary here about @ASugar (hello by the way) being here to gather screenshots for Twitter. We're also seeing her being directly misgendered a lot - that's against our rules so we'd like posters who are doing that to stop, please.

There's always going to be an interaction between Twitter and Mumsnet on this issue. God knows we wish sometimes that there weren't, but there it is.

We don't think it's necessarily a sign that someone isn't here in good faith - plenty of MNers screenshot MN stuff and put it on other networks - but of course it can be.

The OP is posting within our Guidelines and engaging in a discussion with other users. As per other things we've said over the past few weeks, that means we'd expect her presence here to be respected and (if you're posting on this thread) her viewpoints engaged with in the usual spirit of our site and our Guidelines.

Thanks

MNHQ

@ASugar as per my previous post, I really think that the impact of Covid on women is one of the biggest threats to women at the moment.

I do think that homeschooling, housework and furlough is something that disproportionately has impacted women.

This is something where trans women and women could work together on.

Could you please point me in the direction of some trans women who have had to resign from their jobs in order to be able to homeschool their children full time (either as a single parents or due to partner’s work taking precedence)?

PotholeParadies · 04/03/2021 10:32

Helloooo!

OP, A woman is someone with she/her pronouns and who identifies themself with the female sex.

OP, about these pronouns, please.

If we take you literally, women are something that only exist in the anglosphere.

If we don't, and assume that you also mean sie/ihr (German) and so on, that still brings up problems regarding languages where they do not have the same structurr. I brought up Finland. My fellow honourable MNer has brought up Japan.

It's all very Anglocentric, isn't it?

And as my other esteemed MNer observes, "she/her" is used for our cat. Is the cat therefore a woman?

minchinfin · 04/03/2021 10:36

has @ASugar actually declared their gender/pronouns anywhere so we can/can't misgender them?

Nobody has asked what I identify as or what my pronouns are?

What I don't get is how some trans people can't see how very different our needs are.

On the other thread, a trans woman was complaining that they were discriminated against because it took 3+ years to get medical treatment.

That, to me, shows an ignorance of women's constant battle for medical treatment for gynaecological problems. How long can it take to get help for endometriosis, for instance?

It not only falsely paints themselves as a victim of discrimination (the NHS is in a bit of a mess and woefully under resourced) - trans surgery is elective, so would always be further down a list than emergency medical procedures - but shows a complete lack of knowledge/regard/interest in the actual problems women face to access healthcare for their female biology.

We are different.

AaronPurr · 04/03/2021 10:38

We don't think it's necessarily a sign that someone isn't here in good faith - plenty of MNers screenshot MN stuff and put it on other networks - but of course it can be.

I think it was quite clear from the OPs previous thread that the threads are a way to get proof of transphobia, and to prove MN is transphobic, after all the OP admitted it was a test to do just that.
