Trans rights are a part of women's rights

Trans people don't negatively affect women's rights. They are a part of the women's rights. Both trans men and trans women experience oppression based on being female/a woman.

Completely disagree. Trans people face oppression because they are trans. That is why there are separate protected characteristics in the Equality Act - sex, and gender reassignment.

Now, if a trans woman genuinely passed, and was then discriminated against because an employer worried they might have to provide maternity leave or something, then that would be sex discrimination by perception. Same principle as if an employer mistakenly thought I was a lesbian, or Jewish, and discriminated against me on that basis. That wouldn't mean that women's rights are the same thing as gay rights or the right to religious belief, either.

I just demanded my pronouns be validated too? Why can someone come on demanding their pronouns be validated and they are respected by MNHQ but mine aren't?

Do I understand correctly?

Women who are born women and want to be a woman are women.
Women who are born a man and want to be a woman are women.
Women who are born a woman and want to be a man are women.

So...Men who are born men and want to be a man are men, and they're the only category of 'man'.

Really, every who isn't born with a penis and chooses 'male' as their gender is actually a women, despite sometimes having a penis and sometimes also choosing 'male' as their gender.

Have I got it?

I didn't think you could 'choose' a gender, though. Aren't we told it isn't a choice and is just a fact?

I don't think you can have it both ways TBH.
Cailleach1 · 04/03/2021 10:45

No Chocolate, you have misunderstood the core point. Reality stems from the pronoun being used

.

@RowanMumsnet

Thank you Rowan. I would like to clarify that a sarcastic comment was made in a previous post that was mistaken (which I take ownership of) you can see my profile on twitter (anxiety sugar) and can see I've not posted anything.

I am here for a discussion on the rights of transgender people and women's rights. My pronouns are she/her and I am a woman. You don't need to know my sex for that, it is how I identify. I am just here to give information as a sexual health professional working within women's rights and with young people about how women's rights aren't only applied to cisgender women. Trans men being born female can experience some if the rights we consider for only women (not meaning they are women in the slightest) and trans women can also experience parts of women's rights issue's due to the fact they are women.

OP, as you have stated your pronouns, do you refer to yourself in the 3rd person? (off topic, if the gossip is true Sajid Javid does that and also calls himself The Saj. Which I find gently amusing).

I have to go on record as saying OP's assertion that (I quote) 'transwomen are mental' is extremely unkind and happily not something we've seen on these boards before. If anyone is harvesting screenshots of 'transphobia', and I saw the most innocuous quote from here being shared as such on my more usual habitat of twitter last night, where the poster said she's grateful she can talk about women's issues on mumsnet, I hope they will share the downright cruelty of that comment from someone supposedly on their side. And take responsibility for it too.

Cailleach1 · 04/03/2021 10:46

Don't delete me for that MNHQ or you should delete the op too. The op stated that the pronouns were the most important thing.

Cailleach1 · 04/03/2021 10:47

Why is the op allowed to state their preferred pronouns when mine were deleted?

andyoldlabour · 04/03/2021 10:48

MNHQ - could you please tell me why my comment at 10:23:28 today was deleted?

Other people recognise it even if MN don’t. You have a flag and all: www.google.co.uk/amp/s/pride-color-schemes.tumblr.com/post/161790614625/regisgender-kinggender-or-queengender/amp

Mumsnet are deleting posts and banning people all over this thread. They've made it clear where they stand on these matters.

JustGotHere · 04/03/2021 10:50

@EdgeOfACoin

You see, you're going to have to define 'woman' in order to have a meaningful conversation about this.

What is a woman?

What do I, as a biological adult human female have in common with all other women and transwomen that I don't have in common with any men or transmen?

This is the perfect question. It could not fail to crack the whole thing wide open. Please keep asking.

No, you're not discussing, you're asserting.
There is a difference. If you want anyone to even remotely believe you're here as a good faith poster, start behaving - in space you decided to barge into with your own preoccupations - according to the norms of discussion.

You're making the extraordinary claim - that males are women, it's up to you to provide the requested evidence if you wish to convince us to share your faith.

Many comments have been deleted @andyoldlabour , most of them were sensible and perfectly inoffensive questions for OP. Make of that what you will but they refuse to respond to my request for reasons, which strongly suggests there are no reasons to be given.

ASugar · 04/03/2021 10:51

I'd like to make it clear I have not reported anyone for discussing their pronouns or anything like that. I've only reported two people who I felt at the very beginning were transphobic. The rest haven't been done by me.

But you made a highly transphobic and ableist statement yourself. The only one I've seen on this thread I have to add.
