Trans rights are a part of women's rights

ASugar · 04/03/2021 09:16

Trans people don't negatively affect women's rights. They are a part of the women's rights. Both trans men and trans women experience oppression based on being female/a woman.

Unfortunately, this attitude earned me a strike.

Floisme · 04/03/2021 11:35

I think, op, that if you start a thread on this board, then the courteous thing to do is to deal with questions on here, not pass them on to Twitter.

AdHominemNonSequitur · 04/03/2021 11:35

Classic. Damn autocucumber. Or maybe it was a Freudian slip.

Me too, ridiculous isn't it.
Strikemepink · 04/03/2021 11:35

I’ll hazard a guess I was deleted for troll hunting, which wasn’t my intention. I don’t mean that the OP isn’t here in good faith. I meant quite literally not answering / responding to points raised.

Winesalot · 04/03/2021 11:37
@DayBath I haven't seen all the comments as there are too many for me to comment to so I apologize if I've missed any genuinely questions. Feel free to contact me on twitter @ Anxiety Sugar if you want to ask me anything
We do not wish to ask these questions on twitter. Most of us are not on twitter and many have been banned for raising issues just like the one you just answered (being able to request a same sex hcp).

You started two threads this morning so you obviously wish to engage, we are all here now, let's talk.

Start with sport if you need a prompt. I asked you a question about sport and whether you felt it was appropriate for males who have had the benefit of male puberty to compete with women and girls.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 04/03/2021 11:37

For making assertions that the OP isn't here in good faith - essentially, troll-hunting. Please have a read of the post in which she acknowledges and apologises for her post yesterday and explains it was badly deployed sarcasm. We're taking that in good faith
What? Yesterday? It was 7.16am this morning. A mere two hours before this one was posted. Fucking quick turn around in the good faith/bad faith stakes.

ASugar · 04/03/2021 11:37

@pheasantplucker1 I disagree. We share many words with others and it isn't an issue. For example we call those who adopt mothers. Given they haven't gone through the same biological experience and choose to be a parent/mother. The term woman is no different. You don't have to be female to be a woman.

OP posts:
BlackWaveComing · 04/03/2021 11:38

Totally shit.

Back it up. Stop just asserting. Engage in norms of discussion.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 04/03/2021 11:40

The rights of people who are trans are part of human rights.

Beyond being human, I have little in common with someone who identifies as a woman yet has a male body. I do accept though that a trans woman will experience sexism & misogyny and also transphobia.
But experiencing sexist discrimination & abuse is not what defines us as women either.

ASugar · 04/03/2021 11:40

@Winesalot I'm not here to argue everything surrounding women's rights and trans rights. Speak to transgender people more if you wish to ask further questions on sports, prisons and more. It isn't my place to speak for them in terms of that. However as a woman and someone who is close to the trans community I am just here to state that women's issues cover a lot of the issues transgender people face and isn't just focused on biological cis women.

Given MN mod himself Closed the ops other thread as being not in the spirit, it's a little galling to be deleted for taking them at their word!
Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/03/2021 11:40

You don't have to be female to be a woman.

This is an assertion. It's an article of faith. Your own, not that of most of the women on this thread.

Woman: adult human female. That's all it means. Anything else, is regressive stereotypes.

BaronessWrongCrowd · 04/03/2021 11:41

@BlackWaveComing agreed!

ASugar · 04/03/2021 11:41

@BlackWaveComing I'm just giving my view.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/03/2021 11:41

Then why did you start this thread?

Your post spoke about 'tedious shit' and we saw it as 'chasing off' - which means making a discussion thread a fundamentally hostile place for a lone/minority voice. The OP is one person and has, to our eyes, engaged quite a lot given that she's on the receiving end of several hundred questions and objections.

We're sure everyone has had the experience of being a lone voice in a high-emotion online discussion and lots of us will hopefully understand it's a lonely and difficult place to be. We think it's important that there's a diversity of opinions represented on this issue (as on many others) and we're committed, where we think someone is posting in good faith, to helping them to stick around.

@DoubleThinker Cisgender isn't an offensive term. If so then everyone including myself who has used the term transgender should be reported also.

Human rights are human rights.

Women’s rights are women’s rights.

Trans rights are trans rights.

Sex is immutable.
