Trans rights are a part of women's rights

999 replies

ASugar · 04/03/2021 09:16

Trans people don't negatively affect women's rights. They are a part of the women's rights. Both trans men and trans women experience oppression based on being female/a woman.

Great that you are back OP.

Maybe you would now like to actually answer the questions people are asking in depth and with evidence where appropriate.

Please post your evidence (not medium or personal blog posts though where it is clearly biased) because I am sure that you have also heard that we on MN read what is posted and take a view on its conclusions.

In fact, it is actually a great place to get a real understanding on issues relating to women and girl's rights. Many of us have backgrounds that include upholding those rights and can see where other groups rights impact them.

Also, be aware that the impacts are very wide reaching indeed so this could end up being a long debate.

jellyfrizz · 04/03/2021 10:54

and trans women can also experience parts of women's rights issue's due to the fact they are women.

Perhaps you could explain this a bit more?

AaronPurr · 04/03/2021 10:54

@DayBath

Many comments have been deleted *@andyoldlabour* , most of them were sensible and perfectly inoffensive questions for OP. Make of that what you will but they refuse to respond to my request for reasons, which strongly suggests there are no reasons to be given.
I musts admit i'm baffled as to why so many posts have been deleted.
MimiDaisy11 · 04/03/2021 10:55

I hate this widening of "women's rights" or "feminism" in general to include everything and all the ills in society. It's not women's job to care for everyone.

RowanMumsnet · 04/03/2021 10:56

@Cailleach1

I just demanded my pronouns be validated too? Why can someone come on demanding their pronouns be validated and they are respected by MNHQ but mine aren't?
We think that essentially making fun of someone's pronouns (and thus their deeply-felt sense of identity) is just not likely to take us anywhere closer to reasonable and civil conversations.
DayBath · 04/03/2021 10:56

I suspect the frantic deletions have a lot to do with advertising revenue. See Glinner's latest substack on a certain malt loaf company if you want to understand the pressure TRAs are exerting on Mumsnet right now.

stuckinatrap · 04/03/2021 10:56

Hi OP.
You say you are a sexual health professional working 'within women's rights'.
Can you explain a bit about what you mean by that? What is 'working within women's rights'?

goodmonson · 04/03/2021 10:56

Does anyone know of any good forums where people can go to discuss facts rather than dance around lies and contradictions?

acatcalledjohn · 04/03/2021 10:56

My pronouns are she/her and I am a woman. You don't need to know my sex for that, it is how I identify. I am just here to give information as a sexual health professional working within women's rights and with young people about how women's rights aren't only applied to cisgender women.

Women's rights are only for adult human females. Trans rights are for those who are trans identified.

I find it chilling that you push this gender ideology on young impressionable people. In a sexual health setting they are vulnerable and in that case your biological sex does matter as every patient you deal with has the right to decided which can and can't touch them,

Ovarit, but you need an invite. I don't have any - I'm not a member - but you can be feminist without censorship there.
MimiDaisy11 · 04/03/2021 10:58

I feel these discussions always get messy with semantics. I don't think anyone can properly define words like "woman" or "transwoman" so it gets nowhere. The only thing agreed upon with "transwoman" is they have to be male.

TeaAndStrumpets · 04/03/2021 10:59

@Cailleach1

Why is the op allowed to state their preferred pronouns when mine were deleted?
Anti monarchy prejudice.

@andyoldlabour

MNHQ - could you please tell me why my comment at 10:23:28 today was deleted?
For making assertions that the OP isn't here in good faith - essentially, troll-hunting. Please have a read of the post in which she acknowledges and apologises for her post yesterday and explains it was badly deployed sarcasm. We're taking that in good faith.
Avenueofcherryblossom · 04/03/2021 11:01

I am just here to give information as a sexual health professional working within women's rights

Can you give me any information regarding my right as a woman to have intimate sexual health examinations conducted by a person who is born female as opposed to someone who identifies their gender as female?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 04/03/2021 11:02

No.
Trans rights oppose women's sex-based rights when it comes to single-sex spaces, sex-based sports, sex-based awards, sex-based scholarships, sex-based funding, sex-based refuges, sex-based privacies, sex-based requests for same sex practitioners and same sex relationships.

Gender does not equal sex. Sex does not equal gender.

goodmonson · 04/03/2021 11:02

Thanks for the link @DayBath

You cant delete things or modify your posts on MN - weird but actually quite good as it prevents the re-writing of history that happens everywhere else - eg like on twitter where they are now trying to say that feminists invented womxn PSML

LangClegsInSpace · 04/03/2021 11:03

@BlackWaveComing

It's utterly unreasonable to drive people over from Twitter to FWR, and then expect women to sit around smiling sweetly while posters arrive to grab themselves a screen shot or two. As admitted by said poster! Utterly unreasonable. It's contemptuous of MN towards women. FWR has been spammed over the last 15 hrs by posters completely uninterested in women's rights. Except to demolish them.
I agree
ASugar · 04/03/2021 11:05

@Avenueofcherryblossom Yes, you still have that right.

Kettlingur · 04/03/2021 11:05

Just for clarification, is it now "in the spirit" to post threads aimed at grabbing screenshots for a twitter audience outside MN?

Winesalot · 04/03/2021 11:06

And also might give a new poster an experience of what it is like to have your words exposed in ways that they did not expect to, now and in the future.
