The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a4164702-Bunbury-s-Eighth-Sealion-training-for-beginners?msgid=105201850#105201850

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

This thread will be taking a leisurely stroll through the foothills of community disruption, noting the behaviour of wildlife and interesting flora and fauna en route.

Or are you referring to my professional cynicism about someone with 8 yes experience and an ‘award winner’ qualifying for a pass on their actions. I may be just too harsh about professional standards and I acknowledge that.

I am sorry if you felt I was directing that at you. I did try to word it less directly.

And the deletions were coming in.....

Daca · 14/03/2021 11:00

The new visitors have names that suggest they enjoy a certain porn genre. Time for a walk.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/03/2021 11:01

I'm getting very tired of reading that anyone in FWR who doesn't support left-wing activism, including violence, is on the way to being a Nazi, if not already a card-carrying member of the Party.

YY.

Well that's certainly a point of view. We welcome a range of views in this debate.

Hopefully people look at the views, the evidence provided and the tone and reasoning behind summative statements and make up their own minds, as that is what debate is all about.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/03/2021 11:02

I thought the same Daca

nauticant · 14/03/2021 11:07

The evidence provided was such an insult to anyone's intelligence it made me want to cry MichelleofzeResistance.

But then since it was posted to trigger a reaction that's not so surprising.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 14/03/2021 11:11

But then since it was posted to trigger a reaction that's not so surprising.

A # of factchecking organisations say that when something triggers an emotional reaction, it's a time to be very wary about facts and the way that they've been presented.

MichelleofzeResistance · 14/03/2021 11:16

Increasingly though I'm seeing unevidenced, obviously silly and unbacked up statements, which an ungenerous person may think was said merely as provocation rather than to genuinely wish to share a different view, just pass unresponded to, which is probably the best way of ensuring the diversity HQ would like without engaging in pointless and unpleasant arguments.

If someone shouts at me that I'm a stupid green alien who eats goldfish and smells of hamsters I'm not going to waste time out of my day trying to point out the obvious flaws in their statement.

Helleofabore · 14/03/2021 11:22

I am noticing that too. And trying to make phobic statements and attribute them to posters.

And the repetition of absolutisms. It is bonkers and like talking with a child.

And am I the only one that wishes for new and relevant links!!

nauticant · 14/03/2021 11:39

Having monitored my own reactions to the extreme and nonsensical statements to me it looks like aiming to trigger a sense of sheer frustration that encourages people to walk away from a thread in disgust.

MaudTheInvincible · 14/03/2021 11:42

I've learnt a new word today: Lysenkoism

Seems apt.

I'm sure we all know the saying Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

When someone who is intelligent and not insane repeatedly does the same sort of thing I have to assume they don't expect different results, and I may therefore question their motivation.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 14/03/2021 11:44

cor blimey @ Lysenkoism

we really don't learn from history do we? Humans: they're a funny bunch

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 14/03/2021 11:48

@MaudTheInvincible

You know all those beautifully well-mannered placards? "What do we want?"

"Evidence-based decisions and policy delivered within an ethical framework that consults appropriate stakeholders."

You know in the same way that beaches have flags to indicate areas for safe swimming and water play v. those that are safe for boats and kayaks plus warnings about riptides etc.? I would actually pay for a MN feature that offered a warning flag bearing the word Lysenkoism

MichelleofzeResistance · 14/03/2021 11:54

Goodness. What an interesting and apt little article that is.

MaudTheInvincible · 14/03/2021 11:59

Yy Embarrassing, and I love the idea of the placards.

I learnt the word from the bio of La Scapigliata on Twitter. twitter.com/lascapigliata8?s=20 She's mint, I recommend.

Helleofabore · 14/03/2021 11:59

Lysenkoism

Loving the reminder about Lysenkoism. Completely apt. Thanks.

Stay strong ladies as a very vocal Karen says.

nauticant · 14/03/2021 12:01

It's almost like that following years to trying to strip the word "woman" of meaning, those pushing for that have decided to go mad writing the meaning of lots of other terms. For a few days now there's been a push is to redefine "fascist", for example to mean "not 100% on board with the antifa movement". It's another of those negative definitions, "fascist = not antifa" that is pointless to engage with.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 14/03/2021 12:04

Social media is a minefield for my blood pressure today. Not to mention my chap is NAMALT and I'm struggling with Mother's Day (wanted children, couldn't).

I'll read a book or something.
