The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a4164702-Bunbury-s-Eighth-Sealion-training-for-beginners?msgid=105201850#105201850

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

This thread will be taking a leisurely stroll through the foothills of community disruption, noting the behaviour of wildlife and interesting flora and fauna en route.

@Winesalot

We all know the best thing about hilltop walks!

Sunlight.

And lots and lots of it!!!!

You obviously don't walk in Scotland Grin

We might need to find some hatches and get them battened - mimmy et al are having a big go at MN Towers over on Twitter.

They found some shocking examples of our terribleness, like mention of the word ‘sex’ and the thread title of the JR thread.

I wonder what other people will make of it.

Sophoclesthefox · 03/03/2021 12:59

Ah but in Scotland, you will certainly have the benefit of getting a face full of bracing reality, usually in the form of horizontal rain Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 03/03/2021 13:05

And an absence of hot air.

ArabellaScott · 03/03/2021 13:08

I believe bracing reality is shortly going to be made illegal in Scotland, sorry.

Re walking boots, I have a lovely pair of old brown leather Scarpas, but they look a bit dry and neglected after so lung in the cupboard. Please can I have some recommendations for something to treat them with to make them shiny and waterproof again?

Aw, Arabella, gonnae no? Sad I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to go back to the homeland, it’s in such a state. It all went so well for a while, the sort of foaming homophobia and rampant racism that went down a storm when I was growing up there in my one horse town had been phased out, things were looking up....and now look. Why can’t we have anything nice?!

PotholeParadies · 03/03/2021 13:15

I stand here MNing from the summit of a hillock*.

BlackeyedSusan · 03/03/2021 13:17

There is plenty of sunlight, just sometimes the clouds get in the way. The sun is always there whether we can see it from our current position or not. [Autistic pedantic]

The clouds look beautiful from the tippy tippy top of the mountain but once your coach (bus) goes down into the clouds you can no longer see either up nor down nor far ahead, and everything appears grey and dreary. The sun is still there above the clouds though shining brightly at the top of the pass and surrounding summits.one needs to keep traveling to come out below the clouds or back up to the next mountain pass. (10 days in Switzerland and one of the things I best remember is a bit of the bus journey)

I wear out walking boots...not because I do fantastically long hikes, but because I'm hypermobile and they keep my from twisting an ankle but wear out when my foot drags when I get tired.

ArabellaScott · 03/03/2021 13:32

Maud, take out the laces, brush off the dust, wash them, then boot polish and leave to soak in. Maybe linseed oil first, to feed the leather. Then buff to a shine. A very satisfying job. Smile

Hahaha, yes, I'm right on the highest part of the chair, here. But in spirit, I'm roaming the glens and the bens.

Just took a look at what poor HQ are dealing with on Twatter. Bloody hell the nastiness.

HQ Flowers

We may moan at you for the severity of moderating, but at least MNetters never treat you like that .

DickKerrLadies · 03/03/2021 13:44

Bloody big hill this. Everytime I think I'm close to the erm.... summit, there's always something else forcing me to go even higher.

More sunlight up here though. And I think we all need that.

ArabellaScott · 03/03/2021 13:50

False summits are a bugger, Dick. Extremum? Zenith? Acme?

And yes, Flowers for MNHQ. Don't let the bastards get you down.

TartrazineCustard · 03/03/2021 13:50

Well, one knows that it can be quite bracing when you get right to the top of things. The sights can be nearly overwhelming. But we Bunburians carry on, counting on brisk winds and strong sunlight to get us through.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/03/2021 13:57

It's more of a ridge walk imo. Like many in the national park mostly in Derbyshire.

Dalyesque · 03/03/2021 14:02

Climb every mountain scale every high hill....

SunsetBeetch · 03/03/2021 14:08
I was going to put this on the last thread as there was the discussion about VSDs, but the table attached in this website shows the prevalence of the different conditions and whether they are male or female: dsdfamilies.org/parents/what-dsd/brief-overview
That's really useful, thanks.

SunsetBeetch · 03/03/2021 14:11

@Winesalot

Well I also believe there are plenty of escapee imported rodents of unusual size around too. (capybara, I mean, although I am sure wellies are needed in fire swamps, though they might come off in lightning sands)
I LOVE capybara! Every animal's friend.
Beamur · 03/03/2021 14:13

I have been wearing nothing but walking boots for months!
Your boots will be fine with a clean Maud. As long as they're waterproof.
I find wellies are too cold for walking in.
Am metaphorically laced up and ready to go. Went on a walk with a friend this week and found she was halfway up a hill and looking for company..

DeaconBoo · 03/03/2021 14:13

Just seen on Twatter what one person said an email said, then the screenshot of said email, and really wondering what some people think words actually mean?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/03/2021 14:16

@ErrolTheDragon

Or The Blorenge.

Is there a mountain which rhymes with "purple"?

I think we ought to adopt The Blorenge anyway: Wikipedia says it is "composed in layer-cake fashion" of a number of rock types. Cake and mountain, what more do we need?

Melroses · 03/03/2021 14:19

@DickKerrLadies

Bloody big hill this. Everytime I think I'm close to the erm.... summit, there's always something else forcing me to go even higher.

More sunlight up here though. And I think we all need that.

If you get high enough you can see above the clouds.

It is magical and very inspiring.

Unfortunately it is a long hard slog to get there, which is why I haven't done it in ages.

SunsetBeetch · 03/03/2021 14:20

They're going after MN because of thr JR thread? I don't think that will make them look particularly good.
