Bunbury's Ninth Public Announcement - Hill Walking Club

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a4164702-Bunbury-s-Eighth-Sealion-training-for-beginners?msgid=105201850#105201850

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

This thread will be taking a leisurely stroll through the foothills of community disruption, noting the behaviour of wildlife and interesting flora and fauna en route.

@Bordois

When you go to posh(er) restaurants they give you naice bread and then little dishes of balsamic and olive oil to dip it in.

Basically a vinegar sandwich isn't it?

I eat this and the distributors are at pains to remind you that you should not only eat the cod liver but the oil and recommend that you save it and dip bread in it after you season the oil with lemon and pepper.

www.thefishsociety.co.uk/cod-liver.html

It's delicious but I think it would cause a fair # of people to boak if you told them beforehand as they'd think they were being invited to eat a rancid cod liver oil medicinal sarnie as opposed to something delicate and naice. NB: naice as it is, I feel Bunbury would never suggest this is a suitable snack for a hike in the hills.

Olderstyle1 · 11/03/2021 22:09

Thank you for that Bordois. I now feel suitably refined as opposed to just odd.

CardinalLolzy · 11/03/2021 22:55

I know this isn't the thread but I didn't want a big debate. I just had to turn the TV off - watching Question Time and 5 mins in to the Sarah E murder discussion some woman pops up to say men are victims too and let's not frighten all the women.
Got me angry, I'm going to bed.

CardinalLolzy · 11/03/2021 22:56

(actually maybe it is the thread as I just switched the telly off rather than get bogged down in imaginary debate!)

unwashedanddazed · 12/03/2021 02:00

I came here to calm my mind because every thread is fucking annoying me tonight.

In NZ many years ago they used to sell cold baked bean or tinned spaghetti sandwiches in cafes. On purpose! They may still do, I don't know.

On the sweet and salty theme, last night I ate my first ever PB&J sandwich. It was bloody lush.

unwashedanddazed · 12/03/2021 02:04

And it might be my imagination because I read Bunbury threads but don't participate usually, but is this thread filling up at record speed? It feels like there's been a surge in provocation and derailment on most threads this last week which would explain it.

I'd never heard of it until this thread. I'm not ashamed to think that I'm giving the beans some thought.

is this thread filling up at record speed?

Markedly so. It fills up in times of influx but I've never seen it at this rate and I recall proto-Bunsbury and the first draft of the Bunbury Guide:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3321127-public-service-announcement

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3438714-Bunbury-s-Public-Service-Announcement-2

Beamur · 12/03/2021 08:26

I always eat the last few beans in the tin - they are quite nice cold. Better before all the tasty salt and sugar were reduced...
Lots of conversations going on my Facebook page last night, mostly thoughtful supportive women, but still with a few chiming in about 'bad' women too and lots of NAMALT. V tiresome. I know some violence is done by women, but it feels a bit like the responses to BLM.

It's almost as if detractors were encouraged! :)

Helleofabore · 12/03/2021 08:34

It's almost as if detractors were encouraged!

And enabled.

Thecatonthemat · 12/03/2021 09:07

AIBU threads very busy...

Kit19 · 12/03/2021 09:29

Ive just had a look around
'but what about the meeeeenz??'
'NAMALT'
'My DH/DS has been beaten up so its not all about you women!!! sorry us women'

its instructive to see how many women even now cant discuss it without making sure men's feelz dont get hurt

MaudTheInvincible · 12/03/2021 09:45

It was the 'not all women can get pregnant by being raped so TW are at just as much risk' one that made me fucking sick 🤮 imo anyone who thinks that thought is a subhuman prick.

Gurufloof · 12/03/2021 09:54

Where the fuck did all the NAMALT threads come from?
I've never seen so many.

Its as if women dont matter or somet ..... oh.

And all your disgusting food combos, it's a lot too early to be talking cold baked beans and marmite and honey as a sandwich.

PotholeParadies · 12/03/2021 09:58

Double whammy of IWD and the murder of Sarah. It's the kind of femicide that the press can't easily justify straight away so that meant women started talking about their experiences of violence.

Naturally, we have the backlash.

Helleofabore · 12/03/2021 10:03

But I do remember eating cold tinned spaghetti sandwiches. And loved them. Because it was better than spam, and better than tinned beetroot sandwiches. And when you live a long way to the shops and the fridge is empty of options or the power is off, tinned spaghetti is a good option!!!

Even better hot though, in a jaffle.

Sophoclesthefox · 12/03/2021 10:10

@lifeturnsonadime

Ahh I'm feeling heart warmed. My 81 year old MIL has just phoned to say she's posted me a cheque for £10 to donate £5 each to the ONS and Allison Bailey fundraisers because she's too scared to pay online or to internet bank so I'm to do it on her behalf!

I sent her the links yesterday, she had no idea any of this was going on.

I love this Smile

As for some of these food conversations...! Christ alive, you’ll make me defect at this rate Grin

And yeah, Bunbury threads are getting shorter lived all the time. They’re set up to take the sting out of derailers and disrupters. Therefore we can suppose...

unwashedanddazed · 12/03/2021 10:14

Tinned beetroot? Well I never!

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 12/03/2021 10:17

However, on one of the threads, I've seen these excellent responses:

I support a charity that supports people with learning disabilities. Nobody is screaming 'but people have physical disabilities too'
…
Speak for yourself @HUCKMUCK. I love to phone up donkey sanctuaries and scream: "WHAT ABOUT THE SQUIRRELS?"
(I could start my own squirrel charity, but hey... )

Kit19 · 12/03/2021 10:20

haha yes I saw that! sadly i think the nuance would sail over the head of the people starting those threads....

ErrolTheDragon · 12/03/2021 10:20

What about the men.... there are lots of threads on various aspects of VAGW but I've not spotted any started by a man, to discuss what they could constructively do.* There are one or two posts (there's a good one by Dervel* on one thread).

Maybe some of the sensible male posters - who tend to be parents - could go and have a chat over in the quiet space of the DadsNet board?

lifeturnsonadime · 12/03/2021 10:21

Now ladies, when we're rambling we must remember never ever to wander across Clapham Common at 9pm, that 'wouldn't be doing the right thing' Angry.

WTAF!

I've never heard of tinned beetroot either, I do like beetroot though. Beetroot sandwiches are yum.

Helleofabore · 12/03/2021 10:31

Oh. So... the issue is beetroot in the tin not the sandwich filling option. I see.

Never saw either a bottle of beetroot til I moved to the UK to be fair. And never saw a raw beetroot until my mid 20s either.

Such is country life.

Now you know there is a thing called blue box Kraft cheese that needs no refrigeration until you start to cut it???

And still those other threads are not for me today. I will not go on those hills.

Bordois · 12/03/2021 10:45

In Australia they put beetroot and pineapple in a burger 🥴
