Bunbury's Ninth Public Announcement - Hill Walking Club

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a4164702-Bunbury-s-Eighth-Sealion-training-for-beginners?msgid=105201850#105201850

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

This thread will be taking a leisurely stroll through the foothills of community disruption, noting the behaviour of wildlife and interesting flora and fauna en route.

But the quotation of the deleted post is still there.
The baby names board has tons of references to 'old lady' names. It's not pejorative, it's an evocative description.

boatyardblues · 06/03/2021 23:54

Tinsel - I read that linked article about supermarket man and, um how to put it, it unsettled me. I couldn’t reconcile what I was reading with the cheery tone of the OP so I backed out of the thread sharpish.

VictoriaLucas123 · 07/03/2021 00:09

I’m still smarting about my proper account being deleted the other night with no explanation (again) from the towers that be.

In other news, this past Friday (yesterday) I discovered that furniture polish and a yellow duster does an excellent job of cleaning doggy nose marks and children’s handprints off french windows .. no chamois leather or crumpled newspaper required.

And I did actually go hillwalking today but no soreen was consumed, only a banana. Toasted malt loaf with Wensleydale is now on my bucket list.

It's almost as if someone was out there reporting as many posts as possible for anything to try and get posters banned ... and the fact that they are getting responses at 7pm on a Saturday almost suggests that we have been moved to the front of the class and made to sit at the desk that is right against the teacher's desk where s/he can keep an eye on us.

PotholeParadies · 07/03/2021 00:13

I bought three packs of Soreen today. Perhaps I shouldn't have.

DeaconBoo · 07/03/2021 00:28

I genuinely don't understand why the things are being deleted on here that they are. Posts about vinegar? Actual vinegar?

CannotOperateOnThisFailure · 07/03/2021 08:12

Vinegar? Literal violence against limescale right there.
Kotatsu · 07/03/2021 08:18

I always have a box of kimchi in the fridge (have a special box to reduce the smell... which only slightly works) - super easy to make, super delicious, and I'm the only one that eats it.

By god now I fancy a mashed salmon and vinegar with cucumber on thin sliced brown bread. Slightly soggy, like I bought it in M&S this morning and it's been in my bag ever since. Just like the old days.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/03/2021 08:18

It's pretty corrosive stuff but afaik not inflammatory as such.

I put bicarb and lemon oil in a pot in the fridge to eliminate strong fridge smells, but now all my cheese tastes like lemon.

I mean, it’s quite delicious but I don’t know if it’s safe to eat.

(I keep eating it.)

ErrolTheDragon · 07/03/2021 09:06

I can't imagine that absorbing diffused lemon oil would be at all harmful. However it suggests your cheese is exposed and could be absorbing and other stuff which might be floating around. I'd also be double checking the fridge temperature if it's prone to strong smells.

Now mustard essence - that's highly volatile and it's difficult to buy outside Italy because it falls under mustard gas legislation as it creates profound inflammation in the lungs and respiratory tract.
DayBath · 07/03/2021 10:07

Can you report your deleted post to ask for a reason? It's always annoyed me that a reason isn't given as standard, posts just silently disappear until a strike appears.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/03/2021 10:12

Yes, please do - and ask that it's read in context, as we all know context is important. This thread, I'd suggest, has quite a lot of women well past the first flush of youth who don't see 'old lady' as a pejorative, especially not in the context of the sorts of sandwiches that our ration-era mothers, aunts or grandmothers thought luxurious.

WoolOfBat · 07/03/2021 10:14

I just got deleted.

I think you are not allowed to use the term “literal violence” if words are used against super people. Or maybe it was the crying emoji 🧐.

DayBath · 07/03/2021 10:25

Oh FFS some of these deletions are ridiculous. What next? Delete me for expressing that opinion?

Kettlingur · 07/03/2021 10:38

Are females of advanced age now a forbidden subject? Or was it the vinegar? I am getting lost in the fog again.

WoolOfBat · 07/03/2021 10:41

I have this weird feeling that I am expected to always be the adult in the (virtual) room here (the same applies to many other women here).

If people are having emotional, illogical arguments, I am supposed to stay calm even if it annoys me.

If people are throwing out unbiased accusations, I am supposed to be calm and gently put them right.

If people use hyperbole against me, I need to be measured.

I actually find it discriminating that I cannot use hyperbole and emotional/irrational arguments without being deleted. These people are not my children, I don’t want to mother them.

Nefbachmorf · 07/03/2021 11:16

I've contacted HQ to ask for clarification. Like others I don't know whether it's vinegar or old ladies that are now forbidden. Both?

I'm mostly a lurker here at FWR although I do post occasionally under a different username. One reason that I don't post often is that I don't find it easy to follow all of the unwritten nebulous TG that apply here.

DayBath · 07/03/2021 11:22

I often lurk rather than post for the same reason @Nefbachmorf. Interestingly the type of posts I was given a strike for here are par for the course over on AIBU and I have both seen, and made, many posts questioning the intentions of the OP in the past without being deleted for troll hunting. It seems there are different rules for different boards. Which isn't explained in the guidelines so it can be quite confusing having to remember where you're posting and what the difference is that day. As a user experience it's terribly tedious.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 07/03/2021 11:56

As a user experience it's terribly tedious.

This is precisely why I think the research on not engaging is sound - the much discussed lurkers have no idea of the different rules, contexts, restricted engagements and vocabulary nor why these things happen. Nor can it be explained to them - it makes posters seem positively unhinged at times even when people are asking in good faith but have no understanding that it's not feasible to explain it within the rules etc. that they don't know exist.

On a tangent of what's acceptable with women of a certain age - I've learned a number of things here that have shaken me (some threads on MN about it):

borntobequiet · 07/03/2021 12:32

I’m an old lady, which means I don’t put up with nonsense. Not keen on vinegar except balsamic but a secret fan of tinned grapefruit mixed with tinned prunes at breakfast. In fact I sometimes choose B&Bs because they look as though they might offer such fare, though then I often have to put up with Artex ceilings as well. However if I buy said tinned fruit myself, I forget it’s there, or I open it, eat some and then forget it, so it gets thrown out.

TinselAngel · 07/03/2021 12:42

CaraDune Has asked me to pass on that she's been banned.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/03/2021 12:43

Joisanofthedales · 07/03/2021 12:49

I am mostly a lurker and although I really enjoy the Banbury threads, have never posted before.
I recently received a copy of the letter from my consultant to my GP which referred to me as an elderly lady and I also have recently started to make pickles to accompany noodle or rice bowls.
I use rice wine vinegar usually but have experimented with cider vinegar and it tasted naff. A a child i also was given tinned salmon which was mashed with vinegar and then eaten with a sad dispirited salad laced with salad cream.
I now await to see if I get deleted.

Oh and I thought I would mention that I am a great admirer of Tinsel Angel and am very happy to be part of the invisible battalions who have her back. Flowers

Now off to put soreen wensleydale cheese and a tin of Bombay potatoes on my click and collect.
