Bunbury's Ninth Public Announcement - Hill Walking Club

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a4164702-Bunbury-s-Eighth-Sealion-training-for-beginners?msgid=105201850#105201850

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

This thread will be taking a leisurely stroll through the foothills of community disruption, noting the behaviour of wildlife and interesting flora and fauna en route.

I'm a bit late but to the PP who asked about tinned pink grapefruit, it's lovely, a bit sharp but tangy and delicious. I put mine in the fridge for a few hours before eating, really nice with sliced bananas.

No hillwalking here but been out tidying up the garden and enjoying the sunshine!

Returns to lurking..

@TeiTetua

Dr Johnson was an awful old sexist, but his opinion on cucumbers was unforgettable: "It has been a common saying of physicians in England, that a cucumber should be well sliced, and dressed with pepper and vinegar, and then thrown out, as good for nothing."
I call them Satan's vegetable.
Cailleach1 · 06/03/2021 18:42

Can I just offer binn or binne as Irish for a mountain peak. Mullach is the summit of a mountain.

Think Scottish Gaelic is similar. Wouldn't it be a very off to delete words from indigenous endangered languages which originate from what are still parts of the UK?

midgedude · 06/03/2021 18:58

Beinn

midgedude · 06/03/2021 18:59

No no no to vinegar with salmon and cucumber, that's an old lady mix

midgedude · 06/03/2021 19:02

Sorry. You are allowed your own butties.

Does that mean we are mullaching among the sukebind?
theThreeofWeevils · 06/03/2021 19:44

Even some of the small burns were iced over
I misread that, initially. My far-from-small bum is pretty gelid, as it happens.
Tinned Bombay potato, eh? I must get some of that en route to Specsavers.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 06/03/2021 19:48

Definitely if people are planning to divert to Cold Comfort Farm for tea because this would allow the rare opportunity to shift from mullaching to mollocking.

Ageist and sexist!

Ooh, I wasn't being serious @midgedude. It wasn't me who reported your post.
PotholeParadies · 06/03/2021 21:51

MN introduced me to that book and it was one of the best reads of my life.

Beamur · 06/03/2021 21:58

I know vinegar is not to everyone's taste, but did it merit a deletion?
Bit harsh.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/03/2021 22:23

Good grief.

Datun · 06/03/2021 22:30

Good heavens

Gurufloof · 06/03/2021 22:53

We also provide a buffer to rest of boards, if the misogynists didn't have us to attack they would be all all over the pregnancy, TTC and menopause chats attacking the language there

We are the foot soldiers getting banned and silenced off to protect
the vulnerable posters on Relationships board. MN should be paying us

Agree with this, we do the heavy lifting and keep the undesirable off the other threads. I don't want paying mind I just want answers to the usual questions that don't use stereotypes.

What's with all the pickling of foods? And does anyone buy and like and eat that yellow pickled vegetables thing picallili or something?

Thelnebriati · 06/03/2021 22:55

I love piccalilli and ham in a sandwich.
(is that allowed?)

ErrolTheDragon · 06/03/2021 23:00

What's with all the pickling of foods?
Preservation. And the fermented types seem to be good for your microbiome.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 06/03/2021 23:02

I like pickles and fermented food - it also allows me to deal with gluts or buy when vegetables are in season and a decent quality.

I mostly make piccalilli rather than buy it because brands change so much and I can control the spicing if I make it. DH doesn't like a very spicy piccalilli but he does like a milder one with anise and fennel seeds in addition to the usual spices but with less mustard powder.

I've never made Mostarda (there's a saga around getting food grade mustard oil) which is the yellow Italian mustard fruit item - I like that and would probably eat it regularly if it weren't such a pest to get a good one reliably.

On a random note - you know how some people swear by vinegar for cleaning but other people find it useless? I recently discovered that in some countries this is because it refers to a 14% household vinegar rather than the 5% food grade condiment. (14% and 20%+ available in the UK but I've only seen it online.)

littlbrowndog · 06/03/2021 23:22

See if you have been waiting a year for a filling. Due to some sort of virus thingie which means your teeth rot for ever

Do not eat sorren whatever you do

It sticks to your fillings like super glue and pulls them out

GCAcademic · 06/03/2021 23:23

I went to Istanbul a couple of years ago and was amazed to discover that there are entire shops that sell nothing but pickles. People even drink pickle juice, which is apparently an excellent hangover cure.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/03/2021 23:30

I think if that was the cure, it would definitely work on me - it would ensure I absolutely never risked drinking enough to get a hangover.

WanderinWomb · 06/03/2021 23:33

Crikey.

I would enjoy that so much - I have pickles with most meals and I'm always on the lookout for new ones.

I've tried making Japanese fermented rice bran pickles - nukazuke -because I'm very fond of them but rice bran is very expensive in the UK rather than priced like the waste product it is elsewhere. - I developed an allergy to the fine dust of the bran which meant I couldn't rub them through and body else would commit to it.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/03/2021 23:49

Someone is seriously responding very quickly by deleting innocuous posts in a thread where no one is getting offended by the obvious attempt at humour and at 7pm on a Saturday night? Wow. Anyone would think we are being watched.
