The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a4164702-Bunbury-s-Eighth-Sealion-training-for-beginners?msgid=105201850#105201850

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

This thread will be taking a leisurely stroll through the foothills of community disruption, noting the behaviour of wildlife and interesting flora and fauna en route.

I'm going to have to try this. Why have I never thought of it before?!!!
highame · 04/03/2021 14:30

Thanks for the reminder Ereshkig. You're in for a treat Dial btw did you get a post deleted the other day? I had one a couple of weeks ago

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2021 14:38

A mansplainy post on another thread has just made me wonder something: is 2020s gender critical feminism perhaps the 'fifth wave'? Not that I'm vastly interested in labelling things to the nth degree, more of a passing thought.

Absolutely delish...I adore fruitcake with a big chunk of Lancashire Tasty or Wensleydale too...think it might be lunchtime for me now!
MichelleofzeResistance · 04/03/2021 14:44

As a resurgence of grass roots feminism that was triggered by fourthwave feminism, yes, I'd argue that fifth wave feminism is a reasonable summation.

PotholeParadies · 04/03/2021 14:52

Hang on. I thought we were fourth wave? Is it like buses? Wait for hours and then two waves sweep past at once?

SunsetBeetch · 04/03/2021 15:31

Anyone else get the impression that a TRA in twitter googled "gender identity scientific papers" recently?

At least they've stopped posting that Nature article and that rainbow graph thingy.

At the risk of feminisplaining [is that even a word??], I always think of the 1970s Women's Liberation movement (I was there, but a teenager) as the 3rd wave.

1st wave: Millicent Garret Fawcett, Josephine Butler, John Stuart Mill et al.

2nd wave: suffragists/suffragettes

3rd wave: 1970s women's liberation movement

Riptide that drags you in and then drowns you: Girl power, 1990s empowerment style

God knows where we are now ....

SunsetBeetch · 04/03/2021 15:34

Sweet dreams are made of cheese
Who am I to dis a Brie
I cheddar the world and a Feta cheese
Everybody's looking for Stilton

MeltsAway · 04/03/2021 15:37

@littlbrowndog thank you soooo much for that poster & info!

I Zoomed into Rachel Ara's artist's talk yesterday at Oxford Brookes. I wouldn't really have known about her if she hadn't been no-platformed, and I'm so glad I do know of her, and heard a bit about how she makes art work yesterday.

She was brill! Unpretentious and straightforward about how she developed her career & generous advice to the Oxford Brookes art students.

I really didn't hear anything - not a skerrick- that could be construed as "transphobic" in her talk. She centred women, and talked about how she prefers working with women, but you'd have to be to an outright misogynist and lesbophobe to see that as transphobic.

Oh ...

Surely, buses come in 3s so it's 6th wave.
PotholeParadies · 04/03/2021 15:40

Okay, so is the 90s officially known as a fourth wave?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/03/2021 15:45

God knows where we are now ....

I'd say "post-feminism" in terms of modern "intersectional" feminism.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 04/03/2021 15:51

MeltsAway - I really didn't hear anything - not a skerrick-

/Merail for curiosity

That is the first time I've come across skerrick in about 12 years - and then it was a group of Australian academics who'd arrived late to a buffet dinner and were complaining that there wasn't a skerrick of anything left.
/Merail

Anyone know when we'll get our board back?

MeltsAway · 04/03/2021 16:05

I have lived in Australia. Picked up bits of the slang, I suspect ...

Kit19 · 04/03/2021 16:08

pretty much over posters being allowed to start multiple threads asking the same thing and being deleted if we get even slightly grumpy about it

TinselAngel · 04/03/2021 16:12

@highame

Anyone know when we'll get our board back?
I'm thinking they'll probably get bored quite quickly.
DaisiesandButtercups · 04/03/2021 16:14

Anyone got any good sugar free cake recipes? I feel I need to kick off Spring by making some healthier choices.

Kit19 · 04/03/2021 16:16

Im thinking of building a large wooden badger.....

BaronessWrongCrowd · 04/03/2021 16:17

I had been subscribed to premium for a while now as I wanted to support FWR. I've cancelled it as I'm so miffed over the one sided and unfair moderation.

It feels like regular posters are being thrown under a bus.

Winesalot · 04/03/2021 16:18

There you go. Never realised it was another Australianism. You learn something new everyday. I have always loved it as a descriptor.
