Old thread nearly full!

————————————-

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Remember there are people out there who would like to silence us by fair means or foul.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3944572-Bunburys-guide-to-community-disruptors-part-5?pg=40

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the ‘Break it Down for me’ and ‘It never happens’ threads but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

True, and who can have too much pinniped chat?

picklemewalnuts · 21/02/2021 19:55

I will be careful. And name change.

Could someone pm me about S.O.B? I'm feeling dense!

Cwenthryth · 21/02/2021 20:13

Interestingly when you look at usernames on the most recent posts for the thread on TIO view.... the ls and Is are different as the font is (slightly) serif! Could we petition MN for a font change?

Cwenthryth · 21/02/2021 20:14

Sorry meant to illustrate with screenshot

picklemewaInuts · 21/02/2021 20:19

Could you do that again, Cwenryth? a I've name changed...

Cwenthryth · 21/02/2021 20:27

Yup you can tell on TIO view

@MNHQ can this font be used across the site?

GCAcademic · 21/02/2021 20:30

That's interesting Cwenthryth. That's the app, right? On TIO on the website there isn't any hint of a serif.

Cwenthryth · 21/02/2021 20:51

No just the website on Safari on an iPhone. I never worked out the app.

picklemewalnuts · 21/02/2021 20:51

I'm on iPad app and it doesn't show either.

GCAcademic · 21/02/2021 21:11

That’s really odd. I’ve just switched to the IPad / Safari and still no hint of a serif.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/02/2021 21:40

That's the mobile app not the tablet version. Yes, that's exactly what I meant (I asked about changing font on the Site Stuff thread)

PothoIeParadies · 21/02/2021 22:06

I know this is a bit off-piste as normally it's swapping cooking recipes, but does anyone have ideas about knitting alternatives to Innocent hats?

For some reason I'm not willing to help Innocent drinks any more, but the projects were very good for using up odd half-used balls of yarn and the right size for novice knitters with short attention spans.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/02/2021 22:09

pothole

No idea what innocent hats are but what about hats for premie babies?

They are very small I believe ....

Maybe not as small as you are thinking though 😀

ArabellaScott · 21/02/2021 22:12

Penguin jumpers.

PothoIeParadies · 21/02/2021 22:24

Hmm. Penguin jumpers. How far will I have to post them though? I'll definitely have a look to see if anyone wants hats for preemies.

Rufus

To fundraise a trivial amount for Age UK per bottle, innocent drinks had this scheme where people knitted cute little hats for the bottle caps, and then Innocent donated money per hat, stuck the hats on bottles and then sold more smoothies on account of cute ickle hats.

picklemewalnuts · 21/02/2021 22:37

What about finger puppets? Obviously not sock puppets, that would be naughty, but finger puppets would be quite fun for a novice knitter!
My first knitting project was a pair of baby bootees. They'd have fitted a four year old, I think. Never really took to knitting!

Cwenthryth · 21/02/2021 22:52

I used to LOVE finger puppets when I was little!

I had a little red riding hood set and a Robin Hood set. They were felt though rather than knitted.

No idea why autocorrect capitalises Robin Hood but not little red riding hood. Fucking patriarchy.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/02/2021 22:54

I getcha pothole

Finger puppets sound cute

BreakfastCrunchies · 21/02/2021 22:56

Sorry quick favour please. Would those of you who here who have a few minutes free, mind checking your local GP's website and clicking on the new patients registration form? My new Gp has their forms for me to print and fill out which are basically the same as I've ever known. Lots of questions about medicines, family health history, medical history alcohol but none about pregnancies/smears which I've always been asked before. It doesn't even ask sex. I started a thread about it on AIBU but everyone is claiming to have never seen such a form! I've moved around a bit in the UK and had it on every form I'm sure.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/02/2021 22:59

It asks for gender

Nothing about pregnancy or smears

Usual alcohol etc

ArabellaScott · 21/02/2021 23:00

I went and googled, Pothole.

'we are asking our community to please stop knitting jumpers'

Grin

It seems the Penguin Foundation have an oversupply.

BreakfastCrunchies · 21/02/2021 23:00

Thanks Rufus. Mine doesn't even ask gender.

ArabellaScott · 21/02/2021 23:02

No such form on my doc's website, Breakfast. To be perfectly honest, I was surprised they even have a website, as they do their best to discourage anyone from ever contacting them.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/02/2021 23:03

It asks for gender.

PothoIeParadies · 21/02/2021 23:09

Well, I'm happy the penguins aren't depending on to keep them warm. Grin

Breakfast, currently my surgery links to the standard official NHS form. Tick box for male or female at top, tickboxes for joining the Organ Donor register at bottom.
