Old thread nearly full!

————————————-

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Remember there are people out there who would like to silence us by fair means or foul.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3944572-Bunburys-guide-to-community-disruptors-part-5?pg=40

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the ‘Break it Down for me’ and ‘It never happens’ threads but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

@MichelleofzeResistance

Just to warn: I received a strike for using the 'm' word when talking about women, and was told to say women and transwomen. I wish I'd been told about this current guideline rather than find out about it via a threat of banning, so sharing here for others to avoid.
Coming late to this. The 'm' word - you can see it but can't say it. Shock /not shocked. Sad

This isn’t worth it’s own thread but (fell down a rabbit hole) FFS 🤦‍♀️

Sorry for random apostrophe Blush

PotholeParadies · 21/02/2021 01:44

At least WWE is scripted. If this presages a comeback in the women's comps, I'm hoping the scripting and thus the secretly controlled nature of matches could prevent a reprise of what happened to Tamikka Brents.

ArabellaScott · 21/02/2021 08:56

The support thread for the poster who has spoken up at work has gone. A poster on there was in a bad state, facing disciplinary action, very anxious and talking about suicidal thoughts. A pbp disrupted the thread and now it's gone. Women in need of support lose it because of some idiot derailer? Not on.

GCAcademic · 21/02/2021 09:03

ArabellaScott - Is that a different one to the thread about posting on FB about women’s sport? Because that one has also gone, apparently because of the antics of a PBP. So basically, you can get a thread shut down by derailing it now?

GCAcademic · 21/02/2021 09:10

I’ve started a thread in Site Stuff asking about this.

CranberriesChoccyAgain · 21/02/2021 09:18

@BuntingEllacott

I do genuinely think that many who visit having heard the reputation of the evil terven have been so well insulated in their mutual validation bubble that they think their views are unassailable. You get the wily kind who squat here having scoped out how far they can push without deletion (quite far these days, sadly) but if they're just rocking up from an egging on via Twitter the narc meltdown follows in short order when they don't get immediate capitulation. It's very predictable.
We should just start telling them women are adult human females, that women's rights are human rights and #nodebate. Grin
ArabellaScott · 21/02/2021 09:18

Different one - called 'why is my heart thumping so fast' or similar. Thanks for starting thread, will add. It's really unfair- I was worried about one of the posters on the thread.

ArabellaScott · 21/02/2021 09:20

Oh, sorry, may be it was the same thread, yes, I can't remember all the details and obvs can't now check Angry

GCAcademic · 21/02/2021 09:21

It’s the same one. I fell asleep so only saw the early parts of the thread and didn’t see the suicidal poster. Awful.

ArabellaScott · 21/02/2021 09:30

Yes, I'm really pissed off. Wonder if worth staring another support thread for her?

MichelleofzeResistance · 21/02/2021 09:41

women are adult human females, that women's rights are human rights and #nodebate.

I honestly think that has to be the core of it. Plus 'not negotiating our right to exist'.

If we've got to play here we go round the mulberry bush about all this then yes, use the language, use the terms. It will still cause tantrums, but no one has yet been honest enough to admit these aren't meant to be reciprocal values but just a nice sounding excuse to disguise subordinating women.

ArabellaScott · 21/02/2021 09:52

GCAcademic, sorry, I've muddled my threads. The thread with the woman worried about losing her job is a different one, I've just found it.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/02/2021 09:53

@picklemewalnuts

Perhaps we could each independently develop a short, gender critical logical position. Then post them specifically with a 'do not discuss' instruction at the top. It would be dozens of independent statements, all different, all expressed differently, from many different perspectives.
I think thats a good idea
ArabellaScott · 21/02/2021 09:53

The thing about getting a thread taken down by trolls derailing it is still unfair, though.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/02/2021 09:54

Yes

Very unfair

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/02/2021 09:57

Yeah - what's to bet there will be a lot of derailing in our immediate futures?

GCAcademic · 21/02/2021 09:59

MNHQ have replied to the thread I started in Site Stuff. Apparently the thread in question was taken down not because of the derailing by the PBP but because the PBP was also sock-puppeting and had appropriated the identity of a FWR regular to do so. Ironic given what this whole issue is about.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/02/2021 09:59

If I remember the heart thread rightly

Goady prat was goady prat from about post 1

Just delete goady prat and delete sock and let everyone else chat

To be fair i think it’s probably too much for one mod to sit permanently on one thread, especially overnight....but its still not fair

ArabellaScott · 21/02/2021 09:59

What?! How the fuck did they do that?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/02/2021 10:01

It's like in school where the bully picks on the little kid and both get detention.

GCAcademic · 21/02/2021 10:01

I think they must have created a username with one letter different or something. For example, a capital I and a small L are indistinguishable. There is certainly a small L in the FWR regular's username.

GCAcademic · 21/02/2021 10:02

It's like in school where the bully picks on the little kid and both get detention.

More like the whole class gets a detention!

ArabellaScott · 21/02/2021 10:04
  • the poster in question was also sock puppeting, and had chosen a username that was almost indistinguishable from that of a long-term member of the site, in order to post offensive messages.

We took the decision to remove the whole thread in order to protect the poster whose name had been appropriated, and to prevent any of these inflammatory posts from being shared on other social media sites as evidence of alleged hate speech.*

Sneaky, irritating wee buggers.
