Old thread nearly full!

————————————-

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Remember there are people out there who would like to silence us by fair means or foul.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3944572-Bunburys-guide-to-community-disruptors-part-5?pg=40

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the ‘Break it Down for me’ and ‘It never happens’ threads but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

I'm seeing parallels with the "stop the count" mob if this ddos attack is from the activitists that want us to stop talking.

DaisiesandButtercups · 20/02/2021 17:06

Yes Errol, surely one of the defining features of feminism is being critical of gender and one of the goals of feminism is to acknowledge the essential biological differences of sex whilst dismantling gender?

MichelleofzeResistance · 20/02/2021 17:12

It is striking on Twitter and on the site stuff thread, HQ deal with an awful lot of frankly rude demands and unrealistic expectations. I admire them staying as polite as they do, and Justine for not going fuck this and selling the site. But frankly the publicly visible behaviour they're dealing with from other bits of the site and site users makes FWR posters look extremely polite, reasonable and restrained in comparison. I think that every time I go on AIBU.

ErrolTheDragon
I’d quite like a thread about the reasons and evidence for being gender critical.

Specifically that subject, and if it could be kept free of merailing and mansplaining, yes. But it wouldn't be possible to kleep it that way for more than about thirty posts tops.

The thing is, I’d be gender critical even if there was no sort of trans phenomena.

I was. Very! I objected to being trammelled by sexist gender-stereotypes. (Old joke: "God blast and damn these bloody trammels -- why won't they come off? They must have been designed by a man!)

ArabellaScott · 20/02/2021 17:41

the reasons and evidence for being gender critical.

Great idea. Seems perfectly suited to a feminist forum.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 20/02/2021 19:01

That Twitter thread was quite revealing!

A couple of recent visitors seem angry that the welcome sign was not put up for them.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/02/2021 19:07

Elsewhere 9.6 out of 10 cats are sane. Grin

picklemewalnuts · 20/02/2021 19:11

Perhaps we could each independently develop a short, gender critical logical position. Then post them specifically with a 'do not discuss' instruction at the top. It would be dozens of independent statements, all different, all expressed differently, from many different perspectives.

BuntingEllacott · 20/02/2021 19:34

I do genuinely think that many who visit having heard the reputation of the evil terven have been so well insulated in their mutual validation bubble that they think their views are unassailable. You get the wily kind who squat here having scoped out how far they can push without deletion (quite far these days, sadly) but if they're just rocking up from an egging on via Twitter the narc meltdown follows in short order when they don't get immediate capitulation. It's very predictable.

picklemewalnuts · 20/02/2021 19:37

MRAs are MRAs whatever they wear.

MichelleofzeResistance · 20/02/2021 19:42

Elsewhere 9.6 out of 10 cats are sane

Good grief, are they really?

Why do I keep ending up with the 0.4 nutcase cats if it's so statistically low frequency? I've never yet had a cat that wasn't completely round the bend.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 20/02/2021 20:11

What do you do about a cat who falls down stairs? not just once, repeatedly?

PotholeParadies · 20/02/2021 20:19

How old is the cat, and how long has it been going on?

We think we've got a dyspraxic cat but she seems to be developing better balance. It's just taken her approximately a year more of practice than any other cat would have needed to stop falling off things.

Cwenthryth · 20/02/2021 20:24

My old boy failed at stairs for the last few months of his life, he refused to accept he may need assistance. We put a stair gate up to keep him safe.

Cwenthryth · 20/02/2021 20:25

The younger cats just vaulted it, leaving him quietly seething at the top of the stairs waiting for us to go and get him down :-)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 20/02/2021 20:31

PotholeParadies
How old is the cat, and how long has it been going on?

Maybe four or five (self re-homed) and he does it apparently for amusement. Quite, quite mad.

PotholeParadies · 20/02/2021 20:33

Well, everyone needs a hobby. Grin

ChakaDakotaRegina · 20/02/2021 20:50

Stunt cat. How many stunts could a stunt cat crack if a stunt cat could crack stunts?
Cwenthryth · 20/02/2021 21:38

Ah, he’s just having fun then. Leave him be/install a kitty trampoline in his landing zone.

Deliriumoftheendless · 20/02/2021 21:43

Get him one of these? (I know they’re for dogs but they’re quite small)

DeaconBoo · 21/02/2021 00:33

When I last checked too many people had gone orf down the lazy derail trail Sad so I avoided it
