Maybe lots of excellent journalists and researchers have a sideline in sex work? Perhaps Evan Davis goes on the cams at night for extra cash when Dragon's Den is off air?

donquixotedelamancha · 01/11/2020 14:39

I have a sexy German accent but don't call me a Saxon, I'm a Frank.

Franks, Jutes, Angles, whatever. All you Saxons look the same to me. Go back to northern France, northern Germany and southern Denmark you short haired, trouser wearing sausage eaters.

Johnny come latelies who only turned up after the last ice age due to lax entry regulations.

It was empty when we found it with the front door wide open. I think the previous occupiers couldn't pay the mortgage. They left it in a right state- great big henges just lying about the place, wolves and forests everywhere.

We spent ages picking a decore scheme for Londinium, only for the Romans to swap the curtains to purple.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner.

@MichelleofzeResistance

Drat. I'm Viking descended which counts me right out.

I hear there's quite a lot of Neolithic DNA in the population around Cheddar Gorge, if that's helpful?

You've cheered me right up @Michelleofzeresistance: Thank you Grin xxx

Surely mimmymum's done enough Twitter threads she can send them, job done.

CaraDuneRedux · 01/11/2020 14:49

And don't get me started on the Romans- what did they ever do for us?

"Which is nobody's fault, not even the Romans..." Wink

NiceGerbil · 01/11/2020 14:54

They are doing a big investigation into why UK feminists object to things like male rapists in women's prisons?

And they are looking for someone, what. White? Not just a bit white but very very white?

I have a disability and practically glow in dark. When I get my legs out on holiday people have to shield themselves from the reflected sunlight. I could be in with a shout?

PostItJoyWeek · 01/11/2020 14:57

No mention of homosexuals in the list of welcome applicants.

Thelnebriati · 01/11/2020 14:57

Analyzing the real and potential impact of radical anti-gender organizing on trans people’s human rights in the UK.

I'll make popcorn.

PhilSwagielka · 01/11/2020 14:59

@PostItJoyWeek

Random oppression hierarchy on show.
Why doesn't it mention Asians? There are way more of them here.

This is why trying to apply American social justice models to the rest of the world doesn't work.

PostItJoyWeek · 01/11/2020 15:02

Yeah, they also want applications from Hispanic US citizens, which is what I believe Latinx means.

Bit odd for a UK research job.

DocMarteens · 01/11/2020 15:03

Do British Muslim women not get to say why they need single sex spaces?

NiceGerbil · 01/11/2020 15:03

Homosexual people aren't mentioned as same sex attraction is somewhere on a scale between problematic and bigoted.

PostItJoyWeek · 01/11/2020 15:04

I hope Maya applies.

Escapeplanning · 01/11/2020 15:07

I am confident a male Lantinx sex worker will be able to tell them every thing they need to know about women's groups in the UK. There's been dozens of them at meetings here.

MaudTheInvincible · 01/11/2020 15:10

@Beamur

If this is just a cut and paste from US equivalents they're going to find the concept of indigenous a bit tricky to apply here. Don't they know that's a shade alt-right in concept here?

Lazy, culturally illiterate tosspots.

Maya's thread makes some very interesting links, including around their funding.

PostItJoyWeek · 01/11/2020 15:11

@DocMarteens

Do British Muslim women not get to say why they need single sex spaces?
No. They are non-people who need to abandon their own belief system for someone else's belief system. If they refuse then they don't deserve to mix with others outside the home. Conservative religious Muslim women should also get on with being properly liberated women by doing more sex work, dressing in pornified clothing and having more casual sex (with men, lesbians can fuck off).
EstuaryBird · 01/11/2020 15:12

Oh, I’m right in here 👍. My mother was 100% Celtic and my father was 75% Indigenous American.....don’t know about the other 25% but I bet it was indigenous to somewhere 😊

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 01/11/2020 15:14

From an academic perspective, I can't get my head around this.
If they're asking for someone with possibly a journalistic background or similar, why would they have research publications?
Am I misunderstanding what 'research' is, or are they looking for someone in particular, or hoping for a right-on hatchet job?

Also, the logic of it doesn't work. It isn't really beginning with questions but rather conclusions eg 'anti gender radicals' are impacting on transgender people's human rights.
I mean, is that established?

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 01/11/2020 15:15

Indigenous seems to be the new trendy word that has replaced 'diasporic'- both generally used out of context in a way that makes my teeth itch.

PhilSwagielka · 01/11/2020 15:17

Indigenous works in an Aussie/Canadian/US context. Not so much here, especially as the far right use it as a dogwhistle for 'anyone who isn't white' even if they were born here.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 01/11/2020 15:19

When someone coming here from the states asked me to connect her with indigenous groups, I had a bit of a chat with her and she ended up contacting gypsy/traveller organisations.
I sort of know what they mean.
But it isn't the right word really.

Aesopfable · 01/11/2020 15:20

or are they looking for someone in particular, or hoping for a right-on hatchet job?

Oh no, they would never do that.

NiceGerbil · 01/11/2020 15:20

Well the list of who they welcome applications from shows that zero thought has gone into it, which isn't a good start for the activity they want to fund....
