The HSE removed the word "woman" from their CERVICAL screening pages Angry
I stumbled across this tweet
twitter.com/Salwicklow/status/1305967737563422720?s=20

politely asking them to put woman back in, alongside trans men and trans women, who both get their own special mentions, but they have brushed off the woman who made the original request and are no longer replying.

Here's the HSE pages
www2.hse.ie/screening-and-vaccinations/cervical-screening/when-you-should-have-cervical-screening/who-should-have-cervical-screening.html

And here's Aoife Martin - no cervix skin in the game Hmm inviting followers to mock women for wanting the 99.9% of people who need cervical screening to be named as such by a health service that already has some serious catching up to do before women can believe it has their best interests at heart.

I'm in Ireland and had to get a women's procedure done yesterday. The information pamphlet they gave me beforehand thankfully referred to "women" the whole way through

You can also complain on the page itself when it says “did you find what you are looking for” so do that too. Utterly shameful,

I’ve received a response to my FOI on Friday. A refreshing change was that, instead of the fobbing off tactic of claiming that the cost is above the free threshold, they have accepted it as a valid FOI.
However a large number of records must be searched and surprisingly they have received a large number of FOIs on this topic recently.. They need an additional 4 weeks to process.

Well done mná. Let them know we’re watching.

SecondRow · 19/10/2020 11:28

They must be shitting themselves about that extensive testing they carelessly mislaid. In 4 weeks we are nearly up to the end of the year which is when they've now also said to Ochón above they will be reviewing the material anyway.

Has anyone received anything back under an FOI?

Was curious given how this was a national news story if any TD had asked a parliamentary question on this and can't find a single one.

There was also only 1 TD brave enough to ask a question about Bairbe www.oireachtas.ie/en/debates/question/2020-10-07/209/

The Deputy may wish to be aware that there are number of actions contained in the National LGBTI+ Inclusion Strategy relating to LGBTI+ prisoners. Action 13.3 commits the IPS to "develop a placement and accommodation policy to reflect and build upon existing good practice in the accommodation of vulnerable prisoners including LGBTI+ people and I understand that exploratory discussions have been held with relevant stakeholders in that regard.

Relevant stakeholders? Definitely not women then Angry

It is shocking to see (in the Irish sense - but not actually surprising) that the defender of women is a man and the defender of this person is a woman. Why have Irish women in public life thrown the rest of Irish women under a bus? Is that how they got where they are, by being handmaidens?

SecondRow · 30/11/2020 21:03

Just bumping this up to note that the NWCI AND TENI have been to see the HSE to chat about people with cervixes:

She said the NWC and Teni met the HSE’s national cancer screening service last week and recommended an amendment to its electronic information so that “sentences that refer to people who have a cervix would read ‘women, transgender men, intersex and non-binary people with a cervix’”.

Meanwhile, the HSE prostate cancer website says this
"**The prostate is a small gland in the pelvis that is found only in men."

7Days · 30/11/2020 22:51

Nwci and teni.

After their carry on this week

SecondRow · 01/12/2020 08:05

Exactly, 7Days!

Remember when TENI claimed back around the time of Liveline they'd made no representations to the HSE about removing the word woman and it hadn't been done at their behest?

And then the NWCI very belatedly and begrudgingly confirmed they also hadn't asked for it and didn't agree?

And yet the HSE still can't do a simple bloody thing like PUT WOMEN BACK without endless handwringing and kowtowing?

Ridiculous carry on

yellowtwo · 21/05/2022 01:55

Bumping this to ask if there's any chance Irish women here have an old invitation letter that said women, pre removing the word women. Ta

Uachtar · 21/05/2022 08:32

somewhere I have the old information book from 2017 which definitely uses woman/women and also has logo about using real / simple language, which the new booklet does not

yellowtwo · 21/05/2022 22:50

Uachtar
If you come across it as some stage would you mind taking a few photos and messaging me?

3timeslucky · 23/05/2022 14:36

Who did they survey and did they give examples of the word spaghetti that they'd use? How many literacy groups were involved? I call BS.

yellowtwo · 23/05/2022 20:28

Read this link and weep. The HSE paid a marketing company to carry out a survey into "gender netural language", in which many women said the language has to be clear and concise, and many said to use the word woman.

3timeslucky · 26/05/2022 19:15

WTF do they mean by "A breakdown of the 27 women by gender, age and county of residence can be viewed by clicking here."? How do you breakdown women by gender, what does that even mean? And then they list that they were all female. Well what else would women be? Dear god but that doesn't inspire confidence. Was the gender sex or was it some self-declared twaddle? I hate 2022.
