Irish women, have you seen this?

The HSE removed the word "woman" from their CERVICAL screening pages Angry
I stumbled across this tweet
twitter.com/Salwicklow/status/1305967737563422720?s=20

politely asking them to put woman back in, alongside trans men and trans women, who both get their own special mentions, but they have brushed off the woman who made the original request and are no longer replying.

Here's the HSE pages
www2.hse.ie/screening-and-vaccinations/cervical-screening/when-you-should-have-cervical-screening/who-should-have-cervical-screening.html

And here's Aoife Martin - no cervix skin in the game Hmm inviting followers to mock women for wanting the 99.9% of people who need cervical screening to be named as such by a health service that already has some serious catching up to do before women can believe it has their best interests at heart.

Thank you for highlighting this. I have just complained.

SecondRow · 17/09/2020 10:05

Thanks @StephanieRang. I think I only started following raidicailin a couple of weeks ago so I missed that. I hope the numbers of complaints are steadily rising as more women find out.

Be good to know what they mean by extensive testing .. how many people did they ask and what was the breakdown by gender?

OchonAgusOchonO · 17/09/2020 10:13

"When trans men with a cervix will be invited for cervical screening*

If you're aged 25 to 65 and registered with welfare services as female, you should receive invitation letters for cervical screening.

If you're registered with welfare services as male, you will not receive invitation letters

This actually shows how dangerous using gender rather than sex for medical purposes is. If you have a female body, then you need to be registered as such to ensure optimum health care. And the reverse if male bodied.

Presumably time and money will be wasted giving appointments for smears and mammograms to those who are male bodied but registered as female. And the same with prostate checks.

I just don’t understand why they can’t just use the word woman and then to differentiate use the word trans for those that are and have a cervix. The fact we are changing language for what is supposed to be a tiny minority is disgusting. I have no issue with the word trans being included, it’s the fact it’s replacing the word woman that’s gross. The double standards are so blatant too when it comes to men’s medical needs I don’t see women included in that.

YoBeaches · 17/09/2020 10:15

Nhs Uk says...

All women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64 should be invited by letter.

Why is that not ok for HSE, given they agreed majority of its users are in fact, women.

7Days · 17/09/2020 10:19

It wasnt that extensive, the research, was it? Who did they ask I wonder?

Transman gets it's own mention, which is hardly gender neutral, seeing as how it is an identity built only on ideological notions of gender. Its sex specific language we want, anyway.

I've used that service and they've been fab.

It's mad isnt it - in a broader sense.
The staff know who they are dealing with. The patients know. It's driving another wedge between the Higher Ups in society and ordinary people. More distrust against the institutions of the state. It's something society doesnt need, particularly in healthcare during a bloody pandemic.

It's this kind of elitism that's contributing to populist politics in general.

Look at the anger caused by the Roderic O'Gorman debacle.
And then, that opposition gets framed as far right - and people turn to the open arms of the actual far right if no one else will have them.
I can see it happening to decent people I know, shuffling rightwards. Because you dont need to be ultra educated to recognise a danger to women and children's rights, but you pretty much do need to be to buy into the convoluted ideology that allows one to brush those concerns off. And once you've picked a side - or should I say, when a side picks you - you're a sitting duck for whatever else they want to throw at you.

Institutions and msm are failing to reveal hidden hand lobbyists, failing the people they are supposed to serve, and wondering why people are turning from them and becoming anti maskers and the like.

Its playing out everywhere, not just Ireland.

Yes @7Days, I totally agree with you. I actually identified myself as right wing on here yesterday when talking to Grainne who has written an excellent piece for a marxist publication. I am not really right wing, although on this issue, surrogacy, prostitution, sex with children, and all those other "progressive" issues, I suppose I am with the right wing - I certainly do not stand with the "progressives" or the woke. Who would have guessed as I fought for women's rights, abortion rights, contraceptive rights, that I would end up aligning with the right.
WeeBisom · 17/09/2020 10:25

It’s becoming increasingly obvious that this “inclusive language” shite is just a convenient smokescreen to avoid mentioning the word “woman” altogether. Women are simply asking to have the word “woman” included alongside “cervix havers”, and “trans men” and that is apparently “TERFY”.

SecondRow · 17/09/2020 10:37

@WeeBisom, yes, so much this. The argument goes "you can't say women though because I'm a [trans] woman and I don't have a cervix" and then tweeting like AM today about how ridiculous women are to care about these words, as if they are above caring about such trivialities.

I have just read the website. I am not really surprised at this. It seems to be happening in so many countries. But what worries me is thst a health service would put ideology ahead of biology. But, this is a service that has in the past put womens lives at risk when they failed to notify them that test results may have been false. Several women died as a consequence, and many more have a terminal diagnosis due to delay in getting an accurate diagnosis. Now they are removing the word woman from a website that is specifically for biological women, instead centering the feelings of a tiny minority of people.
Biology matters. Women matter.

ludog · 17/09/2020 13:48

On Joe Duffy now.

Annasgirl · 17/09/2020 13:52

Well done Sarah - you are amazing

Annasgirl · 17/09/2020 13:53

Joe all about the Trans - as per all the cowards in RTE

SilverLetters · 17/09/2020 13:53

I'm not Irish but this info might be useful to include if putting in a complaint. It turns out using the word 'woman' does in fact save lives.

Irish women, have you seen this?
OchonAgusOchonO · 17/09/2020 13:54

@ludog

On Joe Duffy now.
Brilliant. I'm about to go on a meeting so can't listen. Would you mind giving us a quick summary of opinions?

A bit cheeky of me I know Smile

Annasgirl · 17/09/2020 13:56

Joe saying - Sarah be careful, you don't want to end up like JK Rowling - so in effect the TRAs have managed to frighten everyone.

I included a link to the in my complaint. I should possibly have cut an pasted a bit more though.
Annasgirl · 17/09/2020 13:57

Joe does not want to upset Trans - but does not care about women

Annasgirl · 17/09/2020 13:58

Oh yes - second woman on saying put back woman - fabulous woman

Annasgirl · 17/09/2020 14:03

Wonderful contribution Sarah, well done. I've called to say I am willing to go on.

SecondRow · 17/09/2020 14:03

Because the meaning of the word woman is being changed right before our very eyes! I’m not aware of any consensus or election of a spokesman for this so who gave anyone permission to do this? Angry
