The awful trend on Twitter

Hi, I don't post often, but I've seen the awful twitter trend today in regard to J K Rowling, I just feel so scared and defeated about women's rights, why are more people not up in arms and defending us? I also fear for her and women's safety, as some of these TRA's seem really unhinged.

I need to get off social media, I'm in a full blown facebook argument about the fact she didn't name herself after a fucking gay conversion therapist.

Funny how her pen name wasnt a problem 5 years ago.

Coatandhat · 14/09/2020 20:43

@DialSquare @Smileifyoucan She's fine thank you. It opened our eyes and made us vigilant in changing rooms though.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/09/2020 20:44

It's also been confirmed that the killer in her book is a 'cis' male, so not trans at all. She isn't actually saying anything about trans people at all.

They don't like it, of course, because it highlights that that's exactly what non trans male predators can do to get access to women and girls, if all males are technically allowed in women's spaces by virtue of self ID.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/09/2020 20:46

oh wait, you're serious. Let me laugh even harder.

And I thought Twitter was funny Grin

MintyMabel · 14/09/2020 20:47

My twitter feed is full of people professing their love for her and defending her. The other stuff barely appears.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/09/2020 20:48

And Val is totally TWAW as well (much to my chagrin!)

She'd have to be, after The Mermaids Singing, wouldn't she? Or cancellation would have happened a long time ago.

SoManyActivities · 14/09/2020 20:50

Exactly. Under Stonewall's 'Acceptance without Exception' all encompassing trans umbrella, this person could declare themselves a self identifying woman and therefore have access to female spaces?

DialSquare · 14/09/2020 20:51

I'm glad she's OK Coat. I think many of us are going to have to be vigilant now sadly.

DeRigueurMortis · 14/09/2020 20:51

If we ever needed confirmation that Twitter is a cesspit of misogyny then this is it.

Who the hell thinks is ok to tweet these RIP "cancelling" tropes?

The simple fact is they are scared of her rational position and want to try and scare her back through strap lines and hashtags because they have nothing of substance to say in response to her.

I ❤️ JKR

Incidentally, Rowling's career isn't on the slide. Troubled Blood is already number 3 on the Amazon bestseller list. That's because the vast majority of the book buying public do not give a tinker's toot about the self-pitying, cowardly, self-absorbed tantrums of the cry bully trans activists. What an utterly pathetic bunch of losers you are.

Indeed and this "campaign" only served to remind me to pre-order it tonight so that it will be downloaded to read on my kindle tomorrow on release - which I will do with a lovely glass of Winewhilst toasting JKR.

In fact rather than the usual Sauvignon Blanc I might open a bottle of very nice Sancerre I've been saving - a classy wine to celebrate a classy woman and based on the previous Galbraith Strike books what I'm anticipating to be a highly entertaining read.

Abhannmor · 14/09/2020 21:21

I can't answer back cos I dumped Twitter. Only 8% of humans are on that site. So self important.

cyclingmad · 14/09/2020 21:25

Slightly off topic but a few weeks back I went to the cinema and popped to the toilet the cinema staff said sure just here and I naturally followed where she was pointing and didn't check the sign and walked straight into the mens and a guy was in there and I said Ohh are the toilets mixed use now...bless him he said no.

I walked out and his gf was waiting for him so I apologised anyway cos cringe how embarrassing.

But then it occurred me noone said anything as I went towards it, a few years back or a decade ago someone would shout out and let you know the ladies is over here. And it hit me they might of thought I was a guy looking like a female and didn't say anything incase they thought it might be offending....

What a world we live in

ArabellaScott · 14/09/2020 21:28

They're sinking their own ship. Unfortunately, they're doing genuine trans people no favours whilst they're at it.

This. While generally I am happy for TRAs to collaborate in mass publicity drives in order for the issues to be brought to the attention of people who might not be fully aware of what is going on, this is awful. And yes, it's also unfair on the transpeople who get mixed up among it all. I seem to see more and more transpeople talking out against TRA madness lately.

PersonaNonGarter · 14/09/2020 21:32

So many things to love love love about JK Rowling. Not least that she actually fucking is stunning and very very brave.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 14/09/2020 21:34

Just been reading Twitter now. Hateful vindictive little 🤬🤬🤬

Ooooooo we should do a bookclub

Yeah yeah yeah

Lets do that...

I basically just want the wine...but i do enjoy her strike books

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/09/2020 21:38

It’s £10.99 on Kindle right now so I have put it on my wish list and will buy it when it’s cheaper.

Meanwhile, I am going to enjoy the fact that JKR’s career is going so well her books can be priced right at the top of the range and still float right up the bestseller lists.

Grin
MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 14/09/2020 21:38

The TRAs really never got the message from that strategy document about keeping everything away from the public eye did they? What was the quote? Oh yes 'avoid excessive press coverage and exposure', yet there they are, shrieking for attention Grin

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 14/09/2020 21:39

It’s £10.99 on Kindle

Kindle takes the piss

Its only a tenner for the actual book

dolorsit · 14/09/2020 21:43

Well I think I'm going to break my habit of waiting until the paperback version is published and the kindle price drops.

I finished book 4 at the weekend and was very tempted to get the new one this week anyway.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/09/2020 21:45

They charge what they can get away with. There will be enough people who want it immediately at any price. Later on the chances are it will be substantially less, so as a reader it doesn’t bother me. (Whether it has contributed to a general pushing down of prices so writers can’t afford to live is another question , but not one we need to worry about wrt JKR.)

Just ordered The cockoo's calling to get started on this series I wasn't familiar with! 😀
DeRigueurMortis · 14/09/2020 21:55

I also usually wait for the Kindle price to drop but I've made an exception in this case to see the book in the best seller lists ASAP after this latest TRA stunt.

Glenthebattleostrich · 14/09/2020 21:59

@TheFormerPorpentinaScamander

Let me get this straight, JKR has written a book where the murderer likes to dress up as a woman while he kills. This means that she thinks all trans-women are murderers? Okay then. Hmm

So if the book was about a man who murdered people whilst dressed as a man, does that mean she believes all men are murderers? Or when Kenneth Macmillan choreographed The Judas Tree was he saying all men are rapists? Or when basically any other book/song/ballet/play was written was the creator saying all... whatever the main character was... are... whatever they did?
No thought not.

And I really wish people would stop using the word literal when something is blatantly untrue. (Not aimed at the PP on here who I assume was quoting those who do). She is not literally dead. She quite literally isn't.

Well Enid Blyton said all men with beards and bushy eyebrows were up to no good. I believe that firmly and have called the police several times because my neighbor often leaves the house with his beard and has been known to wear a hat. The police refuse to take this seriously. 😡

Gutted about Val. I now need to go throw out her books!
