The awful trend on Twitter

Hi, I don't post often, but I've seen the awful twitter trend today in regard to J K Rowling, I just feel so scared and defeated about women's rights, why are more people not up in arms and defending us? I also fear for her and women's safety, as some of these TRA's seem really unhinged.

Go away and educate yourself ChaChaCha2012 on the number of sex offenders in UK prisons who claim to be transgender and as the mantra is acceptance without exception if they claim to be transgender they are, no ifs, buts, maybes.

notyourhandmaid · 14/09/2020 19:58

Just to follow up on my previous post, that's a 'yes' to 'expecting a negative reaction' if one expresses hateful opinions - which JKR actually hasn't done, and even if she had, declaring her literally dead and encouraging others to do so would still be a disgusting, vile, misogynist thing to do. That's beyond 'negative reaction', that's a mob.

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

There have been cross dressing serial killers and there have been a lot of cross dressing sex offenders. Are we supposed to pretend this never happens and therefore detective novelists mustn’t ever use it for a plot?
Apparently we are. People on Twitter say it has never ever happened. So that's that then. Clearly everyone has imagined them.

Oops, time to cancel Val McDermod, Thomas Harris and Ian Rankin, to name a few off the top of my head.

This is yet another example of Pink News making 2 + 2 = 5 again. Standard.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 14/09/2020 20:02

I don't use Twitter but I guess it's time to send a card to her. Disgusting behaviour.

PronounssheRa · 14/09/2020 20:02

Pink news are utterly reprehensible. I hope JK sues them into oblivion.

@imhereforthesanity

But I don't think she has done that at all, she has highlighted that women are at risk form men, how are we supposed to know who is a lovely trans women and who is a predatory man that might men us harm. Why cant we all be campaigning for a third space. And in all honesty, seeing the sort of things being voiced on twitter in recent month, I'm really not sure that I was to share my space when I am showering and getting changed with the twitter lot, they seems young, unhinged and dangerous, and why should biological women have to compete with biological men. I think she put her had above the parapet to say we want to have a more debate about it, its a shame more people in the public eye aren't doing the same
I understand your concern. You are talking about two separate things, one trans women, who may or may not be lovely, just like anyone else. And predatory sex offenders, who, as the name implies ard harmful people. You can often spot them in a place they shouldn't be, they are the ones engaging in harmful behaviour, or attempting to do so, not just putting on their lipstick. Trans women already use women's facilities, they have to in order to get GRA. Predatory men (and women) already abuse women's spaces. A third space would make predatory behaviour no less likely and anyone seeking to become a woman would still have to use women's toilets.
SilverLetters · 14/09/2020 20:05

Presenting as the opposite sex (choosing words carefully) is the most common paraphilia among male sex offenders. An inconvenient truth these days.

Women and children are the people most often targeted by male sex offenders.

We have the right to discuss this, research this and portray it in our creative endeavours.

There is a simple answer to that. Repeal the GRA, then no one has to intrude into women's changing rooms.

HouseOfGoldandBones · 14/09/2020 20:06

I think these people are just proving how unhinged they are, and how entirely lacking in self respect & unintelligent they are.
The more they tweet this nonsense, the more people who are outside the debate can see the complete batshittery.

ChampagneCommunist · 14/09/2020 20:06

@Smileifyoucan Predatory sex offenders: "You can often spot them".

No, you can't. They don't have. Big label on their foreheads

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 14/09/2020 20:07

Let me get this straight,
JKR has written a book where the murderer likes to dress up as a woman while he kills. This means that she thinks all trans-women are murderers?
Okay then. Hmm

So if the book was about a man who murdered people whilst dressed as a man, does that mean she believes all men are murderers? Or when Kenneth Macmillan choreographed The Judas Tree was he saying all men are rapists? Or when basically any other book/song/ballet/play was written was the creator saying all... whatever the main character was... are... whatever they did?
No thought not.

And I really wish people would stop using the word literal when something is blatantly untrue. (Not aimed at the PP on here who I assume was quoting those who do). She is not literally dead. She quite literally isn't.

DianasLasso · 14/09/2020 20:08

BBC fact check for fair play for women's figures:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42221629

TL:DR - the figures are accurate.

Kantastic · 14/09/2020 20:09

Oh come on, seriously? TRAs got mad about a story where a man crossdresses to kill a woman, so they responded to it by... sending a woman death threats?

Some very stable geniuses we've got here clearly. Let's hope they don't reach critical mass.

PopperUppleton · 14/09/2020 20:10

But but but Val McDermid wrote about this particular story line/plot device in 1995 and she's actually a lesbian, ie actually part of the community...

Can I just confirm that you feel that women will only be able to tell the difference between transwomen & predatory men once the predatory man has engaged in harmful behaviour?

caughtalightsneeze · 14/09/2020 20:11

Telling women that they can spot sex offenders is something that is often used against women. 'If he was really a rapist surely you would have sensed he was dangerous and you should have known not to go back to his flat'. Yet at the same time women are also told that they must ignore their feelings of being uncomfortable, because it's not fair on men. Convenient, that.

PronounssheRa · 14/09/2020 20:11

Please do tell us how you spot sex offenders?

BewaretheIckabog · 14/09/2020 20:11

@ChaChaCha2012

Regardless of the content of the book do you think tweeting an RIP hashtag about a living person is a reasonable response?

These are the people who accuse JK of hate, transphobia, bullying etc. Repeatedly we are told to think about our words and how they can be harmful to trans people.

Once again it only goes one way. Trans people must be protected from any reasonable debate but their supporters can throw vitriol and hate without being condemned.

Fortunately this abhorrent behaviour is making more reasonable, sensible people realise that many trans rights activists are not people who deserve unwavering support. This does not mean we hate trans people or deny their existence.

Kit19 · 14/09/2020 20:11

And Val is totally TWAW as well (much to my chagrin!)

Collidascope · 14/09/2020 20:12

I can't wait to get the audiobook tomorrow. Genuinely quite excited.

Yes I’d like to know that pronouns! I need to know who to tut and move away from (copyright jolyon maugham) 😆

WeeBisom · 14/09/2020 20:13

It's also been confirmed that the killer in her book is a 'cis' male, so not trans at all. She isn't actually saying anything about trans people at all.

To be fair one of the previous times they "cancelled" JKR I saw tweets were people were planning to buy copies of her books just so they could burn them. They didn't seem to think about the fact that buying her books is what makes her money Grin
