Hi, I don't post often, but I've seen the awful twitter trend today in regard to J K Rowling, I just feel so scared and defeated about women's rights, why are more people not up in arms and defending us? I also fear for her and women's safety, as some of these TRA's seem really unhinged.

Ah well it's only fiction and as Twitter isn't the real world, perhaps those pathetic sad fucks wishing her harm aren't able to differentiate. Hashtags and trends come and go.

Very good. That's exactly what these idiots will say. They really have no idea that if they make "claims" like you've highlighted, they will peaktrans people quicker than any campaign could ever hope to.

There is too much hate against JKR at the moment. DP and I did “free” Harry Potter walking tour of Edinburgh recently and we were horrified to hear the guide criticising her for being “mad” and writing about her “unreasonable opinions!”. These people make a living out of what she had written, they announced to distance themselves from her they would be donating a percentage of their profits to a Scottish transgender charity! We were completely agog, but the other couples (possibly mid to late 20s) were all nodding along with him!

Better cancel Criminal Minds whilst we're at it. Also Mindhunter and Netflix for platforming it - that abomination of a show has the audacity to be based on stuff that actually happened in real life.

I'd want to know before I bought a ticket for something if part of the money was being to donated to a transgender charity. I like to avoid giving money to charities that encourage child abuse.

There seems to be a thing about tweeting RIP hashtags on twitter.

Twitter do nothing about it and even encourage it with their sidebar.

That's awful, and a good example of why women need their own spaces. It is one less internal inhibitor for someone to offend a place they are allowed to be in, while a single space in no way guarantees any protection, it is a very thin extra layer. I hope your daughter is OK

Also enlightening to see the JK critics on Twitter arguing about the difference between trans people and cross dressers and how distressing this is.

Obviously not in line with the Stonewall definition of the broadchurch which is trans.

I don't follow many people on Twitter but this would be a quick way of filtering out anyone who would sink low enough to retweet such an abhorrent message. It takes a certain mentality to think that sharing that is acceptable.

Seeing this has prompted me to start writing that letter I've been meaning to write to JKR saying thank you for speaking up.
