Bunburying into Autumn (Bunbury 6)

Bit like blackberrying, with added derailment, sealioning and general JAQ-ing off. I'll copy and paste the opening post of the last thread.

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Remember there are people out there who would like to silence us by fair means or foul.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3944572-Bunburys-guide-to-community-disruptors-part-5?pg=40

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the ‘Break it Down for me’ and ‘It never happens’ threads but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

Go well Witches gin

fatblackcatspaw · 04/11/2020 13:55

someone is bunburying on another thread... mutters.. going to make bagels its an all day job with two risings, a boiling and a baking

littlbrowndog · 05/11/2020 10:23

Yeah fat black cat

Some true madness going on

littlbrowndog · 05/11/2020 10:23

But bagels though. Love them

fatblackcatspaw · 05/11/2020 14:51

@littlbrowndog

But bagels though. Love them
me too but sadly my bagels were not rising.. flat shit... I baked them anyway after the failed second rising.. which made unsatisfactory flat rolls
gardenbird48 · 05/11/2020 15:03

love bagels - my treat birthday lunch when I was a student was bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese. Haven't had a proper bagel for 25 years as gluten free now :¬((

It's getting a bit wild out there on some threads - it feels a bit strange....

fatblackcatspaw · 05/11/2020 15:28

oh I feel for you... I think the gluten free options arent' great... the best bagels came from Caufies in Johannesburg... second best is the 24 hour bagel place on Brick Lane

DialSquare · 05/11/2020 15:36

Mmmmmmm Beigels (as us Londoners call them!). Spent many a late night/early morning at the Beigel Shop. Love an onion pletzel from there too. Sometimes walk there from the city in my lunch hour to get them for the weekend. Not at the moment though obviously.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/11/2020 15:37

Brick Lane was on the walk home late at night. A perfect pause for a perfect bagel was always in order.

Yumski!

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 06/11/2020 17:09

This popped up in my Twitter feed.

Trigger warning: breakfast cereals.

Winesalot · 06/11/2020 17:28

I grew up with both warm milk and cold milk on my Weet Bix! The stuff I hated with a passion was powdered milk. Gross.

MaudTheInvincible · 07/11/2020 00:53

Is it just me or has there been a recent influx of people who tell us, without being asked, that they're not trans, and then going on to shout and rant about what shitty feminists we are and how we should only focus on other issues?

SawingForTeens · 07/11/2020 00:54

Sorry, sucked in to that one Blush

DH bought quite a lot of powdered milk at the start of the year. Turns out it's useful for making home-made yogurt that isn't too runny.
Winesalot · 07/11/2020 06:52

Apparently Errol it is good for bread making too.

Kit19 · 07/11/2020 10:40

Shovked, shocked I tell you to see the thread asking men whether they believe twaw has been zapped

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/11/2020 10:41

Another thread deleted.

HecatesCats · 07/11/2020 10:47

I was waiting for that to happen

ChattyLion · 07/11/2020 10:50

Women will still somehow be blamed for male wrongthink though 🙄

IwishNothingButTheBestForYou2 · 07/11/2020 11:03

I was in the middle of reading that thread and it just froze!

Congratulations to the OP (sorry I can't remember who) it was a super idea to ask for the male perspective. I was really enjoying the breathtaking honesty for one thing.

Is there a way to start a new thread and have that conversation without breaking any of the rules?

Anyone?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/11/2020 11:12

Yeah, it was a really telling thread. The honesty was breathtaking.

I suspect it was particularly provoking for some.

Apparently Bagels are easy to bake.

I have powdered milk to use up. I'll think about it for the next loaf. Today's loaf is magnificent. I use part honey and part water and it helps it keep fresh.

Deliriumoftheendless · 07/11/2020 11:17

I bought some powdered milk to make bath milk.

I have nothing of any relevance to add I just wanted to join in the powdered milk chat.

SophocIestheFox · 07/11/2020 11:23

I don’t drink cow juice so can’t comment on that, but I will warn you off powdered almond milk, which is horrid.

I suppose in a way, there was an equality to a thread for men’s opinions being zapped for once. A real pity, as there were some very interesting points on it.
