Bunburying into Autumn (Bunbury 6)

Bit like blackberrying, with added derailment, sealioning and general JAQ-ing off. I'll copy and paste the opening post of the last thread.

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Remember there are people out there who would like to silence us by fair means or foul.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3944572-Bunburys-guide-to-community-disruptors-part-5?pg=40

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the ‘Break it Down for me’ and ‘It never happens’ threads but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

Go well Witches gin

this is the recipe someone in my cookbook club used it was DELICIOUS

Limoncello can be made with either pure grain alcohol (95% ethanol) or "plain" vodka (~40% ethanol). It can be made with regular (waxed) lemons or unwaxed lemons. It can be made with honey or sugar as sweetener.

Ingredients
750ml bottle of generic vodka
8 lemons, unwaxed
250g sugar
750ml water
Method
Use unwaxed lemons. If you must use waxed lemons, dewax them or the flavour won't come out properly.

Peel the zest of the lemons. Avoid peeling any pith if you can, scrape off pith if you get some. It doesn't have to be perfect, but the less pith, the better.

Put the vodka and lemon people in a large kelner jar. For extra flavour, juice the lemons and put the juice in as well. Store in a dark, dry place for 30 days.

After 30 days, make sugar syrup. Boil the water, dissolve in the sugar, allow to cool to room temperature. Strain the lemon/alcohol mixture into the sugar syrup through a cloth, squeezing out the last drops out of the lemon peel before discarding. Mix well. Pour into bottles, filtering again if you want the mixture to be clearer, but it doesn't have to be clear.

fatblackcatspaw I'm going to have a go at this, thanks for recipe.
Can you drink it as soon as bottled, or does it have to " mature" for a while?

I make bramble jelly by straining the pulp through muslin. I used my first ever batch of blackberries to make jam, which was when I discovered that any fruit fly maggots you have missed retain their bleached white appearance and are very much visible on toast.

Can someone explain the reason for this? Is it in case they claim you're personally attacking them or something?

And the other thread about single sex spaces. Why do I never learn to ignore?

It's because they're itching to drag you into a me-rail. Ideally someone trolling should be ignored completely because they want to make it about them, and if you starve them of attention hopefully they will go away.

But sometimes they say something so egregious it has to be challenged. But this is best done (IMO) by critiquing the view and deliberately denying them the narcissistic satisfaction of having their name mentioned in the process.

Someone on FWR shared a recipe for Xmas pudding vodka (or maybe gin?), a couple of years ago. I was going to share it, but am desolate to find I’ve lost the recipe. Apricots with a little sugar, soaked in brandy for a few months make both an excellent tipple and a lush dessert. And thanks to you lot, I might have to buy a bottle of the Tasmanian raspberry gin which keeps popping up in my news feed.

DanceLikeEmmaGoldman I made the aformentioned Christmas pudding vodka two years ago. However, due to a combination of personal disasters and a lack of suitable bottles I've yet to decant it. It's probably Christmas pudding vodka jelly.

It will probably taste amazing, given two years to mellow.

I see that (unsurprisingly) we are not allowed to criticise webchat guests

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4017762-Very-disappointing-from-Laura-Bates-Everyday-Sexism-Project

I will be completely ignoring any further MN webchats. I'm going to assume that no questions from FWR posters will ever be answered.

We do the plum vodka one with blackcurrants. Have the vodka infused blackcurrants as part of a dessert and the blackcurrant infused vodka as a digestif.
