Bunburying into Autumn (Bunbury 6)

Bit like blackberrying, with added derailment, sealioning and general JAQ-ing off. I'll copy and paste the opening post of the last thread.

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Remember there are people out there who would like to silence us by fair means or foul.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3944572-Bunburys-guide-to-community-disruptors-part-5?pg=40

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the ‘Break it Down for me’ and ‘It never happens’ threads but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

Go well Witches gin

Apart from Shakespeare, I'd only ever heard the term applied to a hookah.

ArabellaScott · 17/10/2020 13:34

Yes, or a 'hubbly bubbly'. Half burned tobacco with honey. Quite nice, really. Can we have them in the witches den?

ErrolTheDragon · 17/10/2020 13:37

No, outside on the blasted heath please.Grin

My coven subscription might have lapsed.

I might set up some kind of pergola on the perimeter for the pipe smokers among us. With lava lamps. And mulled cider, I think.

Real recipe for aspiring witches: www.wisegeek.com/what-is-hubble-bubble.htm

I am not going to join this coven if that is going to be the usual food though. Tastes of poverty to me. Bubble and squeak made with mostly cabbage, now, that's food especially with bangers, and separate fried-up mash. Not never never never the potato mixed in with the veg!

ErrolTheDragon · 17/10/2020 15:15

Shouldn't that be "Never, never, never, never, never"?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/10/2020 15:24

Couldn't afford the extra two on the never-never.

I was tempted by "No, Nay, Never, No nay never no more" but that was way outside my budget.

Pertella · 17/10/2020 15:27

You WILL respond to me!!!!!!!!!!!

You WILL!

Oh, all right, then....

Corned beef hash, luxury!

ArabellaScott · 17/10/2020 17:23

Sausages is as sausages does.

Corned beef hash? When I were a young witch it were slugs and we were grateful.

CaraDuneRedux · 17/10/2020 21:31

So, anyone fancy opening a book? Which thread will be next to be graced by the gentle "arf arf" and slapping of flippers in request for fish?

MerchedCymru · 17/10/2020 21:42

I can do a wavey-hand wibble dance that goes perfectly with Arabella's lava-lamp and could bring my own corned-beef hash once the border check-point opens up. I also cackle. Will that be sufficient for entry?

Shall I tell you a TRA secret? Quite often we’ll be talking to someone ambivalent over GC things who will say but it’s just some women with reasonable concerns, it’s not about transphobia. That’s when we send them a link to this forum. And they come back and go oh fuck , I see what you mean , that’s fucking batshit. So yes, the more lurkers and sunlight the better.*

This was on another thread that’s now closed to comments. As a lurker the lack of self awareness in this is fucking hilarious, I’ve had a great chuckle...thanks jj!!
I was recommended to this site by some gay male friends who are angry about the disgusting homophobia in the trans movement. I know nowt about feminism but don’t worry jj I will now endeavour to get myself educated. I wonder why you seem to think you are suited to the role of persuading lurkers to the t cause but i wont say anymore other than please carry on it’s fucking hilarious!

goneferal · 18/10/2020 04:55

Re scratchy all bran.
If you pour milk until you cover the all bran and let it soak for at least 30 mins then it breaks down the scratchy fronds into a big brown mush. It looks pretty disgusting (low down on the Bristol stool chart), but seems to taste more palatable!

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 18/10/2020 05:07

Back in the days when gyms were open and I was lifting as heavy as my elderly frame made possible; I was working on increasing my protein levels. It occurred to one day as I ate a fairly solid mixture of oatmeal, chia and pea protein, that breakfast looked, and tasted, like clag. Decades after I left school, I was back, in my dotage, eating clag. And if that’s not a metaphor for the human condition, I don’t know what is.

Winesalot · 18/10/2020 07:16

Ahhhh! emma. I was more of a Perkins Paste kinda kid. Clag was ok but the Perkins smell...

Some individuals are so lacking in self-awareness, they unwittingly make excellent sherpas.

EdgeOfACoin · 18/10/2020 08:24

Some of the views expressed here seem pretty hard-line when you are not used to them. It can be very jarring when you originally come from a not-so-informed, let's-all-be-nice position.

However, the longer you lurk, the more you learn and the more you grow to understand the reasoning behind the 'hard-line' views. For instance, I used to think Posie Parker was rather extreme in her insistence on sex-based pronouns and use of the word 'man' in relation to transwomen.

Then I find myself arguing with RFU over its decision to allow biological males into women's sport and being sent emails in reply about 'transgender females' which are a reference to biological males, and you realise how distorted language has become. It can be very difficult to express oneself on this board while sticking to the guidelines.

However, I welcome the lurkers. The lack of a cogent argument by jj etc. did more than anything to solidify my views on this issue. I find it difficult to believe many lurkers will have the reaction jj anticipates.

IwishNothingButTheBestForYou2 · 18/10/2020 08:55

Long live lurkers!

TyroBurningDownTheCloset · 18/10/2020 09:07

I still fondly remember my first sherpa round here. Equal parts persistence and self-absorption, and then the perhaps the most appropriate namechange I've ever seen. That one did a lot to set the tone in FWR just by demonstrating over and over what we were up against.

We just don't get sherpas of that calibre these days. They hang around for a few days or weeks then vanish, never to be seen again.

Quite.

One can imagine thinking maybe there are some rights and wrongs to this argument. But that all goes straight up the chimney, when women are saying don't violate our boundaries and men are saying yeah we're gonna, right there on the page.

You don't even have to have the conversation. You just have to show it. Or rather, let them show it. Which they do, every time. Because, for them, it's the best bit.
