Would you take part in a mass naked lie down demo to highlight the erasure of women's rights?

There's a small rumble on Twitter suggesting this as a way of women showing our vulnerability and refusal to be pushed aside. And a shock tactic obviously. Would you take part?

No. I don't think it would achieve anything other than an opportunity for everyone to check out their bodies and no one will take it seriously.
Women shouldn't have to take off their clothes to get naked. Surely there is a more creative way.

TinselAngel · 02/08/2020 12:30

A thousand times no. This is Lib Fem nonsense.

IHeartSusanDey · 02/08/2020 12:31

No way. There are so many problems with this as people have already said. Women should not have to be naked to be noticed and given attention. If we were to do that, it would be playing into the hands of every misogynist out there who thinks we are only of any note if we use our bodies.

Men would not listen - they would mock and laugh at us and think how pathetic we are that we are reduced to stripping our clothes off. Every misogynistic prick out there would just think it is all we have! It would dilute our message...why, people would ask, if their message is so right do they feel the need to do this?

We need to STOP thinking the way men want us to think. They would LOVE this because they would see how damaging it would be to women's status and how beneficial it is to them. We hold up half the fucking sky. We are as human as men. We do not NEED to resort to stupid tactics to try to get thick people to understand that.

Thelnebriati · 02/08/2020 12:31

No.
A strike on unpaid labour is more effective, enables more women to join in, and it also lets women decide how they can best support the action.

Fatherbrownsbicycle · 02/08/2020 12:32

No.

SerenityNowwwww · 02/08/2020 12:33

No - pretty much why what everyone else said.

Bluntness100 · 02/08/2020 12:33

I think young women might be more up for this but they don't seem the sort nowadays????

What the fuck does that even mean? The sort to take their clothes off in public then I’d hope not. The sort to take action, absolutely they are. They just don’t need to do it naked.

BackwardsGoing · 02/08/2020 12:33

@BahHumbygge

Mass protest - deffo Naked - deffo not

If the reaction from men is likely to be "protest with lots of naked ladies? whoohoo! get in!", then it ain't feminist. Playing to the male gaze (even tangentially) is antithetical to the cause.

This.

Love the idea of a mass strike Iceland-style.

Toseland · 02/08/2020 12:34

No. But I would support another strike or march. If we’re marching I will wear my stick-on moustache and claim I’m a man for the day. Maybe if men realise thousands of women will just self-ID as men that might give them pause for thought!

BaronessSnippyPantsofCroneArmy · 02/08/2020 12:35

I have been suggesting a one day strike for some time now, glad to see so many on board with it. Let's pick a day.

IHeartSusanDey · 02/08/2020 12:36

Ha yes Tose. Many of them weren't too fond of Man Friday.

Jeeeez · 02/08/2020 12:36

Apologies all...I hadn't meant to annoy anyone, and it wasn't my suggesion in the first place. But I totally accept your points.

So, getting back to a (clothed) demo. Do we wait for the govt's response or plan one anyway? Is this the right time?

Women
Should
Go
On
Strike

BaronEssoStation · 02/08/2020 12:37

Could one simply identify as naked?

KrabbyPatties · 02/08/2020 12:37

Honestly I would support this so much

JemimaShore · 02/08/2020 12:39

As I think everyone else has said: Protest - yes.

Naked - NO.

Why does everything seem to involve women being in some form of undress? Hmm

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 02/08/2020 12:39

See when you suggest that, I think of my mother.
Would I want to subject her to the indignity of having to strip off, so that someone attends to her words?

Hell, no.

I think of my daughter...would I want her to learn that her words are not enough?

Hell, no.

I am enough and my words are enough..... and the failure to listen is not my fault, and I will not lower myself to protest in that way.
Hell no.

BaronEssoStation · 02/08/2020 12:39

Agree with tinsel:

This is Lib Fem nonsense.

thehumanformerlyknownasfemale · 02/08/2020 12:39

No.

A big issue right now is women not wanting to be forced to undress in front of men, so why would I want to strip naked in the street for all to see? We're asking for dignity and respect, and whilst there's no shame in naked bodies, protesting naked would contradict what we're asking for.

DialSquare · 02/08/2020 12:40

@BaronEssoStation

Could one simply identify as naked?
And as a size 8
RoseTintedAtuin · 02/08/2020 12:40

No.
This undermines all of the respect gained for women over the years. A protest or refusal to undertake caring duties as pop’s have said is a much better way of drawing attention to the issues

BitMuch · 02/08/2020 12:46

No. We've got enough of a problem with upskirting, hidden cameras and revenge pornography without making it easy for them to put nude photographs of us online forever. Naked protests from either sex have always put me off. It will exclude more women than it attracts, especially as our movement champions the rights of women who do not want strange males to see us undressed.

Everyone I have talked to about these issues (working class women mainly, all ages) agrees with us and thinks it's common sense. Our voices need to be heard more, not our bodies seen more.

Bluntness100 · 02/08/2020 12:47

This sort of shit sets women back decades and the fools who suggest it should be deeply ashamed,

You don’t see men saying, oh I know, let’s get our cocks out and protest, they manage to do it with their cocks fully covered..

But there is always some one suggesting women get their tits out to do it. Always.

At what point in time will this shit stop? When will it stop being suggested we get our tits out to make a statement? Because most women are pig sick of this fucking suggestion that we need to show some t&a to get our issues taken seriously.

The whole thing is so contradictory. Want to be taken seriously girls? Get yer tits out. That’ll do it.

Like hell it will. This stuff needs to stop. Now.

DullDullWeather · 02/08/2020 12:48

Hell No
