Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Would you take part in a mass naked lie down demo to highlight the erasure of women's rights?

There's a small rumble on Twitter suggesting this as a way of women showing our vulnerability and refusal to be pushed aside. And a shock tactic obviously. Would you take part?

Perish the thought

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 02/08/2020 11:45

Nope. Happy to lie down but not naked. People wouldn't see female vulnerability, they'd see a naked woman

Cabinfever10 · 02/08/2020 11:45

no
But I would take part in @WinnieLo march

PopperUppleton · 02/08/2020 11:45

I'm with WinnieLo

noblegiraffe · 02/08/2020 11:47

Men love it when women get naked which kind of defeats the point of it being a feminist act.

If what you’re doing in the name of feminism looks exactly like what men would like you to do, then it needs a rethink.

Coffeeandbeans · 02/08/2020 11:48

No. It would backfire.

picklemewalnuts · 02/08/2020 11:49

I assume it's prompted by the yoga teacher (?) who stripped off in the face of riot police in the US, and they backed away?

HaveaStock · 02/08/2020 11:50

No. When was the last time you saw a group of Male protestors having to resort to such tactics to get heard FFS? Hmm

noblegiraffe · 02/08/2020 11:50

the yoga teacher (?)

As I read it, sex worker.

SulisMinerva · 02/08/2020 11:51

Fuck no! Why should women take their clothes off to get listened to?

MollyAtTheFolly · 02/08/2020 11:51

No.

I'm a teacher - there's no way I want the possibility of my pupils being able to access a photo of me naked.

JamieLeeCurtains · 02/08/2020 11:53

No.

I do get the idea though that the mass protest should pointedly link women and their biology.

Maybe I could hold aloft a copy of my last pelvic scan.

SorryAuntLydia · 02/08/2020 11:53

No way - horribly reminiscent of photos from Nazi camps - just no

But a strike - yes, absolutely!

AnneOfQueenSables · 02/08/2020 11:54

I'd support a socially-distanced protest but not a naked one. It just feeds into the pornified culture and is a reminder of Femen. People will be looking for the men behind it.

AnIckabog · 02/08/2020 11:54

Sounds chilly.

TyroSaysMeow · 02/08/2020 11:54

Not a chance in hell.

I can't see the logic behind it either. Realistically, the public reaction to a bunch of naked women is not going to be a sudden about-face and recognition that we exist as an oppressed class.

EdgeOfACoin · 02/08/2020 11:55

@HaveaStock

No. When was the last time you saw a group of Male protestors having to resort to such tactics to get heard FFS? Hmm
My thoughts exactly. Men don't do this and women should not have to strip naked to be heard.

So no, I would not.

Generally, I think this sort of protest just annoys the general public and doesn't win support anyway. Or at least it puts off as many people as it wins over.

Thornhill58 · 02/08/2020 11:55

Erasure of women's rights where? I can't imagine being empowered by being naked in the street. I don't understand the world anymore. Show your fanny for freedom? I've got the same rights as any men. Also I can't imagine men demonstrating naked. Cray, cray, cray.

Cailleach1 · 02/08/2020 11:56

If there had to be a synchronicity, wouldn't it be better to have a t-shirt with a slogan on? For example, the woman= adult human female slogan or some such.

thriftyhen · 02/08/2020 11:56

No. I like wearing clothes!

BertiesLanding · 02/08/2020 11:56

Not a fuck. In fact this makes me quite angry.

highame · 02/08/2020 11:56

Tbh though I would, it's getting clearer that the misogynistic hate filled bile that is being levelled at women in the Trans debate is highlighting that there really are an awful lot of women haters.

Perhaps our best allies are in fact Trans

We women aren't great at this stuff, are we. Though the Poll Tax got us riled, so there's hope

FloresTorres · 02/08/2020 11:58

No.
Ridiculous.
Iceland type protest - yes.

KarenKarendson · 02/08/2020 11:58

Why the hell should we get naked to be listened to? Our rights are enshrined in law. We don't have to take our clothes of in order for our legal rights to be applied. No fucking way. This is insulting.

Kit19 · 02/08/2020 12:01

I’m happy to protest but not like this
