Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Showing that feminists don't all hate heterosexual male sexuality

OK so I am talking about consensual adult sexuality only.

I think there is a feeling, imo an incorrect one, but still a feeling, among many straight men that feminism wants to impose celibacy on all straight men, and hates and derides any expression of male sexuality.
Now, while I think this is unfounded, I wonder sometimes if there is any mileage in perhaps showing some compassion for the difficulties that many straight men encounter in their personal lives in general, and perhaps even that the pain of sexual or romantic frustration is no less real (and perhaps heightened by societal expectations of the straight male stud) for this group of people than anyone else. I have nothing but contempt for the so-called incels who clearly despise and feel entitled to women, and for men who express disdain for and behave badly to women in other ways, but I do think it may do some good to counter the message that you sometimes hear that feminism is anti-men, and showing that there is probably a societal bias against and fear of male sexuality in general. I hope you understand what I mean.

I'd offer to educate my male friends about my enthusiasm for some men's sexuality but a. they already know and b. they'd most likely offer to come right over, which would be a violation of lockdown and/or in some cases impossible due to no flights at the moment, and also c. I can already see DH looking a bit suspicious.

If I told any of them that I was interested in soothing the romantic frustration of the incel-adjacent, otoh, they'd know I was lying, and it's not nice to make people laugh when they might be drinking something that has bubbles.

Pluckedpencil · 07/07/2020 10:37

When youporn doesn't feature women being abused in a million different ways, we can talk about your problem, which is frankly like comparing a famine with being a bit peckish and wanting something from the fridge.

Be careful, a friend of mine was told by her chiropractor that wearing them as shoes rather than as slippers is really bad for your back.
I can confirm that this is true, most definitely true. Don't know about the convincing random romantically frustrated men that women want to shag them though. As others have said, this is not up to women. This is for men to sort. You're not doing very well here op.

Even though straight, I'm not a wild appreciator of manly male sexuality. Give me an androgyne any day...ironically!

Is it wrong that I've started to feel an affection for this thread and it's title? It's so earnest and old fashioned. And it has cake and shoes, two things I like best.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 07/07/2020 10:44

Me too, Heist. Not sure if OP would approve of my expressing my enthusiasm for pretty boys in eyeliner, or if they'd even include men like that in their concept of male sexuality. Me, I'm a simple soul - if it has a penis and the desire to shag someone then it's a man expressing male sexuality, which I may or may not approve of, depending.

Also gotta love MN - come for the discussion and the snark, stay for the recipes and friendly warnings about the health of your back.

I’m wearing muddy gumboots so clearly the only laying I’ll be doing anytime soon is agricultural pipe.

I listened to an interview Posy Parker did with Glinner via podcast this afternoon and he made a comment about the current situation and how the jokes are just lying there, waiting.

He’s not wrong.

I hear Clarks have an offer of 1 free lesbian wife with every 2 pairs of brogues, too, get your skates on ladies.

I hope they’re not relying on the International Lesbian Cult for supply. I hear their delivery is very unreliable.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 07/07/2020 10:47

one thing about us ladies, we can make do and mend. we've repurposed a 'let's talk about the sad lives of men' thread into one about comfortable shoes and cake wit booze in, two of the great pillars of a civilised society

this is my absolute favourite repurposed thread and explains why I luffs MN with quite the passion I feel

Person trying to use others to get their jollies: Let's talk about me and my sex life!

Mumsnet: would you rather have chopsticks for fingers or rollerblades for feet?

Should have ordered via Amazon tbh, they're evil but very reliable.

HeistSociety · 07/07/2020 10:49

BBC World Service had a program last night about the benefits of barefoot running, and actually, feet are really interesting, especially when you can't sleep at 2 in the morning.

My male sexuality pinnacle is Bowie in drag in the Boys Keep Swinging video.

Who knew the road to tervenhood could begin in such an unlikely place?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 07/07/2020 10:50

There seem to be rather a lot of us who like androgyny when it's not coupled with delusions of gender and intrusion into women's spaces. I feel like there's a useful life lesson in there somewhere for heterosexual males, which brings us right back around to the original thread topic again.

Maybe I should have thusly advised the poor OP.

On the barefoot running thing, if you live in the middle of nowhere maybe, but in a city I just think broken glass, discarded needles, general rubbish, dog poo...don't care how good it would be for me in theory, I'm not putting my bare feet anywhere near that.

One of my personal favorite androgynous males is so attached to his red Crocs that you'd have to pull them from his cold dead fingers, or possibly toes, funnily enough. It's one of the few things about him fashion wise that makes me go "babe, really?"

The reporter tried it in Delhi! Madness.

Nope nope nope

LillianBland · 07/07/2020 11:00

My middle ‘child’ runs and wants to try barefoot running shoes. They make my stomach churn and I’ve warned him to keep them in his room. shudder

There is something a bit David Lynch film about them, isn't there? Like some sort of mutant combination of that and the original Planet Of The Apes costume department.

They look even creepier in real life.
DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 07/07/2020 11:16

I would only run if someone was chasing me, but there is a terrific book about running by Christopher McDougall called Born to Run. It’s about a tribe of ultramarathoners in South America and it is fascinating. They run barefoot and nearly naked.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 07/07/2020 11:20

Can you get crocs on Amazon? My son says more likely Caimans.

Ta-boom-tish

I had to look up Caimans. 😳

But once I got it, I chuckled. 😁

Those shoes would give me nightmares, I'd be lying in bed all "the horrible rubber toes are coming to get me".
