Says:

TONIGHT: #Newsnight has seen evidence that staff at England's only children’s NHS gender clinic say their concerns over the care provided were ‘shut down’.

Clinicians reported worries that some patients were referred onto a gender transitioning pathway too quickly.

Place marking. Am interested to see what they have to say,

chunkyrun · 18/06/2020 22:17

Place marking back later

Will watch but Maitlis seems too wedded to identity politics to do it justice and the BBC are very whimpy and terrified of upsetting the TRAs

BaronessSnippyPantsofCroneArmy · 18/06/2020 22:34

Kirsty Wark tonight I think but it will probably be a pre-recorded thingie.

Melroses · 18/06/2020 22:35

Newsnight last covered Tavistock in July 2019

morningstaronline.co.uk/article/doubt-cast-puberty-blockers-trial
The controversy the Newsnight report explored was in relation to the Tavistock’s early intervention study (or the puberty blockers trial as it’s known), which in a trial group reduced the age at which GIDS prescribed puberty blockers to treat dysphoria from age 16 to 12.
GIDS says that blockers can be used to create a “window” during which a gender dysphoric child can be permitted more time to consider whether they wish to move on to cross-sex hormones.
The Newsnight report followed on from an investigation by Professor Michael Biggs of the department of sociology at Oxford, first published by Transgender Trend in March this year.

Not mentioned sex yet; e.g. that it is largely girls. I suppose that's to be expected.

NeedToKnow101 · 18/06/2020 23:10

Saying people, not girls.

NeedToKnow101 · 18/06/2020 23:14

Yes it's worth watching.

Safeguard lead started legal proceedings!

PurpleFrames · 18/06/2020 23:18

I'm watching on catch up- there's lots of discussion about how some YP are persuaded to present as trans after an initial presentation as LGB.

SarahTancredi · 18/06/2020 23:18

I will give it a watch then as soon as it hits iplayer

JackiFazaki · 18/06/2020 23:19

No one from Tavistock agreed to be interviewed on Newsnight.
Says KW.

Instead, statement issued, read out by Kirsty Wark
" Safeguarding important. We refute ...blah blah"

So, no one directly interviewed.

blubellsarebells · 18/06/2020 23:19

Polly Carmichael named as deliberately subverting safeguarding procedure.
Transition being used as conversion therapy for gay kids.
Heads need to roll for this.
Its fucking disgusting that this has been allowed to happen to any child.
I'd be interested to know more about the safeguarding leads legal action.

Mermaids!

Kilbranan · 18/06/2020 23:20

Yes worth watching. Huge safeguarding issues and Polly Carmichael felling her staff not to involve safeguarding lead!! Wtaf Angry

2Rebecca · 18/06/2020 23:20

Interesting although I looked at their actionline link at the end and the lgbt link takes you to Stonewall although at least not Mermaids
