Says:

TONIGHT: #Newsnight has seen evidence that staff at England's only children’s NHS gender clinic say their concerns over the care provided were ‘shut down’.

Clinicians reported worries that some patients were referred onto a gender transitioning pathway too quickly.

Sorry parliamentary question. I hate typing on a phone.

Datun · 19/06/2020 02:00

Stephanie Davis Arai of Transgendertrend said, years ago, that she had never seen a girl wanting to transition who wasn't either a lesbian, autistic, or had suffered some kind of past trauma.

Years ago.

wow wow wow.
It's almost 3 am here and I woke up in the middle of the night and checked my phone and saw a news alert about this as an email.
Came straight here. Someone said it's on YouTube?
I don't have TV and BBC iplayer doesn't work in Ireland.

Yes! Found it on youtube.
The report I got on my email (from gender heretics) ends thus:

The Newsnight report comes a week after world-renowned fantasy fiction author JK Rowling wrote of her concerns that gay and lesbian children are being pushed into transition.

Rowling’s critics made much of this point to accuse the author of transphobia. Just a few days later, she is the one who paid attention — and the detractors are left sputtering in denial.

DeRigueurMortis · 19/06/2020 03:04

I would like to know what Sonia Appleby’s lawsuit is about.

Likewise - but I'm pretty sure I've got an inkling after watching that.

I'm so glad they've shown this. No one in their right mind could watch that and not be shocked by it.

But as PP mentioned we need to make sure that the Tavistock and the media don't twist this into a "one bad apple" story about Polly Carmichael. There's a real risk that she will be the sacrificial lamb and the rest will all get covered up. The reluctance of the media to do their fucking job, join the dots and expose the shit going on inside Mermaids and Stonewall is sinister.

Just been reported on R4. Well about 10 mins ago.

I know. I think about all the women on here and in the public eye who have spoken out. The threats they have received, the jobs they have lost, and the sheer horror of the vitriol they have faced, but keep doing it because its children. And you cant just watch this stuff happen to the children, knowing what we know. And then to have the bbc come along with some watered down sanitised version acting as if it was all there idea, and still withholding information because instead of being honest and professional and prepared to tackle whatever it is they find, they have backed themselves into a corner pandering to this shit and even when its hitting them over the head that autistic, abused or gay children are being transed instead of treated for their trauma or supported for being gay, their loyalties still lie with reputation over reporting.

Makes me so angry. And terrified for these poor kids

LangClegTheBeardedVulture · 19/06/2020 08:23

I’m not really surprised that homophobia is an underlying issues with the families pushing for transition. After all, it was the motivation behind Susie Green’s child’s transition as she HAPPiLY admits in her TED talk.

In the last 20 years, homophobia has become less and less publicly acceptable and gay people have become more visible and prominent in society. But homophobia hasn’t vanished. From the Newsnight reports it sounds like transition is giving homophobic parents a form of conversion therapy that is supported by the establishment and the woke. They get to be seen as supportive and progressive as opposed to bigoted and unaccepting of their children.

HandsOffMyRights · 19/06/2020 08:23

*It is absolutely vital where a child is involved that the parents are also treated as part of the problem. These is so much anecdotal evidence that all too often it is the conscious and unconscios attitudes of the parents that are pushing the trans agenda.

Or are just outright homophobic.*

This. Yet families are being signposted to Susie Green's organisation!

LittleCabbage · 19/06/2020 08:24

I hadn't realised this was going to be on last night. Thanks, will watch it this evening.

Reading all your comments, it's so frustrating isn't it, how slowly this gains momentum. The last NewsNight interview with Polly Carmichael giggling away at the hilariousness of using untested drugs on children seems so long ago.

Why hasn't this tragedy been stopped yet? Angry

BadgertheBodger · 19/06/2020 08:26

I’m just horrified by all of it. The issue of what is being done to children is the one which peaked me a few years ago now and I still feel that same visceral sense of horror each time I read/watch anything about it. I cannot understand how Carmichael can still be in a job. I don’t know why the wonderful women of FWR seem to be the only ones joining up the dots on the sheer sinister reach of all of this, from organisations promoting Stonewall law, to government depts, to the City of London ignoring dissenting voices, just a huge sorry mess. And at the bottom of it all, children who are being experimented on. It’s indefensible and yet it continues to be defended and nobody is held to account.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/06/2020 08:35

Carmichael is going to have to go. Her position is surely untenable.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/06/2020 08:36

Yes I agree.

When I looked late last night, it was on the front page of the bbc website. However, this morning, it's been demoted, and I can't even see it on the front page of the bbc health section either. Why has it vanished so quickly, when earlier stories are still prominent? Hmm

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 19/06/2020 08:38

I’ve emailed the BBC to complain about the link to mermaids.
There is still so far to go but I’m relieved to see some chinks of light.
It seems so long ago that I took part in the ManFriday campaign in top shop and Marks and spencer alone ( I appear to be the only GC feminist in my village Grin).
I’ve endured so many eyerolls and outright ridicule tbh. It will all have been worth it if I have been able to play a very small part in protecting our dc and women’s spaces.

HandsOffMyRights · 19/06/2020 08:39

Like SG son, my own son liked Disney Princess. He wore Disney dresses aged 4 and liked, to quote a Mirror article on SG, 'girlie things'.

Would that have triggered me to wonder if he was gay? (Again, mentioned in the article)
Would that have set us on a path that would end in surgery?
Not at 4 years frigging old.

FFS, parents are then directed by the BBC to Mermaids. It's a vicious circle.

I'm trying to be really careful here, but the red flags should make safeguarding leads everywhere sit up and take action.
Sadly, as we've seen with the NSPCC and other orgs the system is being abused.

RoyalCorgi · 19/06/2020 08:40

I know how you feel, Badger. I think once you start joining the dots the whole thing becomes not just horrifying but inexplicable. Why aren't others making the same connections?

I know some are, of course - people like Malcolm Clark, Shelley Charlesworth, Transgender Trend. I have high hopes of the book that Helen Joyce is writing. But when you look at the mainstream press, you just see little bits and pieces here and there, you don't get anyone putting it all together to show what's happening.

The sort of people who'd be good at this would be journalists like the Guardian's Amelia Gentleman or the Observer's Carole Cadwalladr. Unfortunately it won't happen, because the very papers that should be exposing corruption are instead aiding and abetting.

teawamutu · 19/06/2020 08:42

This should put paid to any temptation Liz Truss feels to back off from ditching GRA reform and give in to tra mass mailing.

I'm going to complain to the BBC about the Mermaids link.

BadgertheBodger · 19/06/2020 08:45

I keep hoping The Telegraph do one of their massive investigations into it all. Or anyone really. If it could all be put into a newspaper or a documentary which just laid it all out surely it couldn’t continue to be swept under the carpet. It’s clear there are some powerful people pushing the agenda, coupled with a reluctance of both individuals and organisations to tarnish their woke purity.

BentBastard · 19/06/2020 08:51

I dunno teawamuto. It could be argued as a reason to make GRC easier to obtain, through self ID.

The argument being if hormones and surgery has tighter gate-keeping them self ID is necessary.

This is not my view, just looking at how it might be used to further the self ID cause.

Siablue · 19/06/2020 08:54

This is awful. How can this be happening in the 21st century? This is so homophobic and cruel. I wonder if this is what Liz Truss meant when she was talking about banning gay conversion therapy.
I do know a young woman who has detransitioned. Her dad was homophobic and she stopped seeing him. I wonder how many there are.
What is Mermaids?
