Never posted on this board before, but nervous, but I’m furious.
Just bought some towels from Superdrug and the first line on the back of the packet is ‘A person who menstruates..’ I’m a woman ffs!
I shop in Superdrug all the time for their cruelty free stuff but no more!

Women and girls are the people who can’t afford pads around the world

maddiemookins16mum · 18/06/2020 18:48

Only women bleed. The clue is in the name. (I include girls naturally).
Men don’t have wombs.

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 18/06/2020 18:51

@amijustparanoidorjuststoned

"Did you give birth to her? If not, you know fuck all about raising a gender distressed child"

Calm down hun!

I’m not engaging with you anymore.

You don’t get it and you probably won’t until you have a child who is so distressed by adult men sexualising her pubertal body that she wants to cut her tits off and retreat into the safer identity of boy.

Fortunately she seems to have desisted through lockdown, and she’s not the only formerly trans-identifying girl to have done so. No thanks to all this bullshit transpropaganda that gets spouted by people who think they understand but are actually fucking clueless.

Stuff like this makes me feel really really uncomfortable.

I don't want to be referred to in a really mealy mouthed way.

I have struggled for years with endometriosis, an ectopic pregnancy, menorrhagia and iron definiciebcy anaemia becaise of my periods, because I am a woman.

I don't want products I use for my periods, drugs I take for my periods and health literature related to my gynae problems to not mention the fact that I'm a women.

It makes me feel really weird and uncomfortable.

Does my discomfort matter?

The thought of seeing a gynaecologist and there being any doubt over my biological reality is just mind blowing.

Who are we trying to appease?

dingledongle · 18/06/2020 18:52

Do we ever refer to 'people who ejaculate'?

Just a thought Sad

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/06/2020 18:54

@LST

Because it's not affecting your mental health being referred to as a person and not a woman on a packet of pads? Or maybe it does. Apologies if so. I was just giving another POV
Actually, this whole subject does have a very real impact on my mental health, @LST.

I am angry, frustrated and worried about the impact of trans activism on the safety and dignity of women and girls, and this mealy-mouthed replacement of women with ‘people who menstruate’ is the thin end of a wedge that widens to include male-bodied rapists being put into women’s prisons where they get to sexually abuse the women they are locked up with, mediocre male athletes identifying as female and using their biological advantages to become ‘winners’ (aka cheats), and young people being put on a medicalisation pathway that can leave them infertile, and can cause osteoporosis and even negatively impact their intellectual development.

Just thinking about it makes be deeply anxious, and it is one of the topics my brain returns to night after night while I lie awake - so, whilst wording in a pack of sanitary towels may not seem like much to you, it does to me.

midgebabe · 18/06/2020 18:54

YOU CZN IDENTIFY ALL YOU LIKE, ITS PURE MYSOGENY TO ASSUME THAT THE WORD WOMEN REFERS TO A CHOSEN IDENTITY

I haven't chosen a female gender but I can bloody cope with the sad fact that I am a woman and so need to spend the rest of my life persuading idiots to see past the body and treat me as a human being, but I still recognise that I wouldn't have to do that if I had been born in a different body.

I have been raped, because of my sex. I have been passed over in meetings for my sex, even though I was the world leading technical expert in a very masculine field.

I am not a man , because the word man represents the fundamental difference between those who have Biological priveledge and people like me who don't

but if women means acceptance of gender than I don't exist. I have no means of chatting to people who share my pain caused by sexual abuse and gender stereotyping even if they don't share anything else with me. That's really important to me , but people with priveledge of having a gender identity that they can convincingly persuade others to respect can't see that. What a surprise. Priveledge fails to recognise itself

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 18/06/2020 18:57

@DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong sorry to hear this. I really hope your daughter gets the support she needs - for whatever she needs Flowers

littlbrowndog · 18/06/2020 19:02

LST. You are so offensive by calling period pads blob rags

I have only ever heard a man call period pads that name

Very offensive

Thinkingabout1t · 18/06/2020 19:03

Oh god, what a shame! and with all that nice new-agey women's stuff about the moon and nature!

I love Superdrug because its own-brand products are cruelty-free. This looks like a good product, and free of plastic.

All that good work wasted because some dickhead in marketing wants to appease the trans lobby.

JoysOfString · 18/06/2020 19:03

Exactly SDTG and solidarity.

It is so frightening. It's horrible. It could be the way society / men find to finally shit on and destroy women once and for all, instead of continuing the progress we had made. And it's being promoted by loads of daft women who just haven't given it enough thought to see the problem, but think they are automatically right because they think they're on the side of liberalism and wokeness.

It's like being shipwrecked on an island with a bunch of people who think it's lovely and they want to set up home there, and only a few of you can see it's actually the back of a sea monster. And when you point it out you get told "educate yourself" and that you don't understand because you're an old bigot.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 18/06/2020 19:05

"A person that bleeds" could mean my DH if he cuts himself shaving. A person who menstruates is a woman, or a girl. Even if they'd rather not be.

There is no good reason for 99% of women to be dehumanized by being referred to by our bodily functions just so 1% can live in denial.

TatianaBis · 18/06/2020 19:05

@Jingstohang

Do condoms say "people with penises"?
People who ejaculate?

There’s no good reason to define any person by a bodily function.
Worstyear2020 · 18/06/2020 19:08

So is female not in use for a person who menstruates anymore? As if we are some kind of new species. Angry

IcedPurple · 18/06/2020 19:08

They can choose to be whatever they wish to be

Really?

So can I 'choose' to be a fantastically rich, tall, slim, stunningly gorgeous, Oscar winning actress married to Chris Hemsworth then?

Fantastic!

SarahTancredi · 18/06/2020 19:10

Who ever declines your card ice just needs to be kinder Hmm

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 18/06/2020 19:10

I'm not saying you need to book a penis transplant for your daughter

Not to be rude, but if the level of understanding of those who think women who question the wisdom of us all being referred to as menstruators is at the "penis transplants for transmen are totally a thing, right?" point then I'm going to feel pretty confident in continuing to disregard their emotive attempts to bully us into silent compliance.

(Please note that penis transplants for transmen are not in fact a thing, if you happened to be confused about that.)

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 18/06/2020 19:13

@FlamingoAndJohn

SOME PEOPLE WHO WERE BORN FEMALE BUT IDENTIFY AS MALE STILL GET PERIODS.

And some people who were born male but identify as female still need to shave their faces. I don’t see Gillette having the slogan ‘the best a person who shaves can get’.
This is why we get pissed off. It’s not so much the removal of the word woman but more the double standard. Men are not having the word men removed but women are.
All our lives women are taught to change our behaviour so men can carry on with theirs. We are fed up with it.

Yes
threesmallcows · 18/06/2020 19:14

My local coffee shop labels their jar 'Gingerbread Person'.

I kid you not. As a sad, tiny act of rebellion, I always ask them for a gingerbread man.

Whenwillthisbeover · 18/06/2020 19:16

I think we should vote with our feet, if you don’t like a brand because of what they support or don’t, then don’t buy from them. As a menopausal women who doesn't menstruate any longer but did for far too many years I wouldn’t buy their stuff if i needed them.

YukoandHiro · 18/06/2020 19:17

I'm as frustrated as everyone about elements of this big "debate", but honestly this isn't the bit to get hung up on. Not all women menstruate - are people who no longer menstruate not women? Some people who are non binary do.
Women fought hard for words to be non-gendered eg firefighter, all to the better. At first that felt weird too. We can't have it both ways I'm afraid.

SerenityNowwwww · 18/06/2020 19:18

I don’t but from companies who think I done warrant category - pushing women aside for the minis rule number of a tiny minority who ‘may’ be upset by reality? Don’t buy and write to their head of sales to let them know why.
