Never posted on this board before, but nervous, but I’m furious.
Just bought some towels from Superdrug and the first line on the back of the packet is ‘A person who menstruates..’ I’m a woman ffs!
I shop in Superdrug all the time for their cruelty free stuff but no more!

As a person who used to menstruate I find this phrase offensive. I am a woman, i was when I had periods and I am now. I don't identify as a person who used to menstruate ffs.

stackthecats · 18/06/2020 20:52

yakkad! Don't go away. I'm waiting for your superior knowledge of mental health conditions. Please enlighten me.

I love that this thread has now evolved into a "cis" woman telling a transman that they're wrong about the language that's supposed to make them feel more included not being helpful under the guise of being a good ally who wants to protect transmen. TRAs are hilarious.

Eo91 · 18/06/2020 20:54

Women, Transmen and Non-binary people. A bit wordy, but no one's being removed.

Or a brand could step up, take the risk and sell sanitary products marketed for Transgender people. If theres enough of us to kick up a fuss, theres enough of us to support a company willing to do it.

@LST

I agree. But from another POV what happen if the 'person who menstrates' has real issues with the fact that they're a woman. It doesn't really bother me if I'm honest.
Oh lord! We mustn’t hurt the feelings of female bodied people who can’t accept their sex. Hmm

Yet women are being told their feelings don’t matter, when they don’t want people with penises in female spaces.

Reedshoes · 18/06/2020 20:54

Your friend is allowed to call themselves whatever they want. Women are also allowed to define themselves, and it shouldnt be at the expense of the erasure of an entire sex

No matter how much someone wants to, they cant change their sex. Its about time we start teaching our children sex is just that - biology but it doesnt determine our personality, there are a 1000 variations of woman but if they have XX chromosomes they are still woman

This 👌

ForeverBubblegum · 18/06/2020 20:55

Dam, I loved superdrug. Oh well, that's another one off the list.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 18/06/2020 20:55

Thought people weren't allowed to use the c word on these boards.

Reedshoes · 18/06/2020 20:56

I was referring to @ChubbyPigeon post. Spot on!

But they'd be right there on the shelves beside the regular ones. Would this really help you? Confused
IcedPurple · 18/06/2020 20:57

Nobody on this thread has said otherwise! No, biological men don't menstruate.
'Cos, science.
Trans men do though (ie, biological women transitioning to male) (no, acknowledging that doesn't mean I think they biologically change)

Well, that's a word salad and a half!

Glad we agree that only women menstruate. So who are you demanding we be 'inclusive' of?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 18/06/2020 20:58

See, this would actually be a smart marketing move that wouldn't erase women. Add rather than subtract.

IcedPurple · 18/06/2020 20:58

Unfortunately, quite a few people use the awful 'ciswoman' word here.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 18/06/2020 20:58

For what it's worth, I'm not a fan of the word c** either.
I'm just a woman.
Not sure who you were aiming your comment at, but if it's me, how is it OK to call me one just because I disagree with you on some things?

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 18/06/2020 20:59

Yeah, but you don't usually hear it from "GC" posters.

youkiddingme · 18/06/2020 21:00

I see no reason why 'people who menstruate' or 'women' has to be used. I'm sure it's perfectly possible to give product information without using either. I think companies only do it this way to appear 'inclusive' but they either don't realise, or don't care that their version of inclusive actually means making a belief statement that alienates people who don't hold the same views.

I don't object to a transman using the product, nor to them wanting to avoid products that are aimed at women. I do object to companies needlessly taking on the ideology.

Winederlust · 18/06/2020 21:00

@MorganKitten

A trans man who hasn’t had the final stages of treatment still get periods. Gender fluid people get periods. Gender neutral people get periods.

Its not hurting you in anyway.

All born female so therefore biologically women...
Tootletum · 18/06/2020 21:01

Yep, it's all a load of Orwellian wank.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 18/06/2020 21:02

laidbacklife · 18/06/2020 21:02

So everyone who is anti the wording Superdrug use should complain about it to Superdrug. I just have.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 18/06/2020 21:02

Hm, I'd see it more like scented sanpro, This - I don't like it and don't want to use it, but as long as there's an unscented variety available I'm more or less OK with that, even though I'm not thrilled with the shaming undertones. It's when the unscented options are removed and we're offered scented or nothing that I get really annoyed.

BlackForestCake · 18/06/2020 21:03

I'm sure I have said this before but if there is an actual demand from people who cannot come to terms with the fact that they are women, why doesn't a manufacturer create and market a brand of sanpro that says "These are tampons for MEN", in a chunky, manly font, and with some pictures of cars or explosions or something. Then everybody will be happy.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 18/06/2020 21:03

As an aside - does anyone actually read their sanitary packets?!
I just buy them and use them.
I don't think I've ever sat there and read the label!

yakkad · 18/06/2020 21:04

@stackthecats I misread your post on BDD and thought you were saying people with gender issues just have body dysmorphia. Apologies, that was my skim reading error. You know your stuff.
