Is there an 'Idiot's Guide' ? I have too many questions which might (a) derail the thread and (b) Make me look like a dullard.
Bearing in mind what bishopgiggles said in response to my post I don't understand why all these celebs are falling over themselves to promote 'transwomen are women' without at least acknowledging some potential difficulties of going down this road? It's one of the reasons I keep asking myself what am I missing?

Leakinglikeacolander · 13/06/2020 14:09

Datun sorry completely missed your post while I was contemplating mine, so have repeated myself somewhat.Confused

HermioneWeasley · 13/06/2020 14:12

Mermaids lying to suit their agenda? Colour me shocked.

How do you know someone from Mermaids is lying? Their lips are moving.

HermioneWeasley · 13/06/2020 14:13

@Leakinglikeacolander you’re not missing anything. These vacant celebs haven’t thought it through or simply don’t care.

Leakinglikeacolander · 13/06/2020 14:16

Some of these people are supposed to be fairly clever aren't they? Emma Watson, thought she was a fairly vocal feminist ?

Datun · 13/06/2020 14:16

This thread is quite useful, leaking.

It starts off explaining various terms, because it does get very confusing.

Things have moved on a bit, too, but new information, as it comes up, gets added. As a resource it's quite comprehensive.

Datun I have to admit it is a bit of a hobby horse of mine.

I love a well referenced discussion and get exceedingly grumpy when links don't say what is claimed.

I know what you mean, and I agree.

Having said that, of late, I have decided that women should not have to reference statistics, male violence patterns, attacks already occurring, general sexism and misogyny.

We should just be able to say No.

It is, after all, as any mumsnetter will tell you, a complete sentence.

Gncq · 13/06/2020 14:24

It's a shame that the "Break it down for me" thread is like Swiss cheese now. Posts retroactively deleted despite the fact they were made before the new rules.

Silencing in action.

At least it's still up though.

Came across this today though which summarised a lot

Thanks for that Datun

If the Stonewall riots were all about trans..... why was it only in 2015 that Stonewall (the organisation) actively started campaigning for trans equality? Wouldn't that have been at the forefront from the start?

News article

Lordfrontpaw · 13/06/2020 15:03

If it have been about trans it would have been called the trans riots. Triots. T’riots (if you are in Yorkshire)

ThisIsMeOrIsIt · 13/06/2020 15:28

@doublehalo

It seems they're saying that for approximately 0.52% of the UK population that are trans

The last time I checked (which was about 3 years ago) the figure was actually 0.003%, yes that is zero point zero zero three per cent.

Even if you include all the thousands ofyoung girls who have been groomed I don't think you'd get to .5%

Thank you for clarification. I just did a quick search for numbers and it said there are between 200,000-500,000 trans people in the UK, so I used the figure of 350,000 as a mid-way point. But I didn't check the numbers, so that could be too high.

What I really, really hope is that behind the scenes JKR's team are busy putting together a fact checked, full referenced response to Mermaids and that misogynistic man-talking-over-women dick Andrew Carter.

Lordfrontpaw · 13/06/2020 16:29

Oh my. Some naughty person put up a tweet with a direct quote form JKR with the name ‘Robert Galbraith’ (is you didn’t know its a JKR pen name). Mermaids liked it.

Oh it’s too too delicious!

I wonder who the bloke in the photo is?

Leakinglikeacolander · 13/06/2020 16:42

Can I just ask a quick question before I go off and bury myself in various links and threads. Are there some high profile transwomen who have a more moderate, dare I say 'woman' centred view on the whole debate, whose stuff I could read?

ProfessorSillyStuff · 13/06/2020 16:43

Please people consider writing to your mp and requesting them to vote for Amendment 84 in pariament!
