@sadandlonely2020

More a list who's that than who's who.

Sorry, but what do you mean by that. Are you a teenager? I assume you’re very very young, if you think they’re not famous? Or is it because they’re not instagram ‘stars’?

Oh come on, a lot of people supporting her are no where near as high profile as the people who are happily throwing her to the wolves. I love Robert Webb and others on this list, but he's no Daniel Radcliff in terms of profile. let's be honest here.

Puhlease, its great these people have supported her but it is SHOCKING that no one with a profile of any real meaning has stepped up.

Oh, you mean someone young.

Maybe these celebs (and they are celebs by virtue of what they have done, not famous for being famous) are all of an age to have had some life experience. Maybe they've managed to grow up a bit and develop somewhat more mature attitudes than mere outrage and the infantile inability to look at things from other perspectives.

I think jonathan Ross and David Baddiel are pretty high profile tbh. Unless you mean they are not hollywood stars?

If its just a question of getting the most high profile celebs, its just a tribal war.

Robert Webb has demonstrated his intelligence and has written extensively about gender stereotypes. I value his opinion more.

I think it’s significant that a lot of heavyweight columnists and writers are writing on this subject because they are using logical arguments which beat vapid tweets hands down - Suzanne Moore, James Kirkup, Douglas Murray and Janice Turner and leaders in the Times. Can’t wait for Janice Turner’s comment this weekend. Plus the comments in the Times by readers are overwhelmingly supportive.

I hope JKR is off Twitter and not reading any of this but I think this is showing how outrageous the whole thing is to many, many more people.

Fern Britton? I'm so glad, I love her!

Hopefully this list will grow over the next few days, big names often have no more guts than we mere mortals do especially when you consider how toxic the likely response will be. And there's safety in numbers > watches patiently

I’m thinking that silence means quite a lot at the moment. I wonder how many PMs she has had from colleagues and others from her social circle.

it's a bit disappointing that none of the Scottish literary luvvies- Val McDermid, Ian Rankine or Sandy McCall-Smith have said anything.

They are all what Douglas Murray calls the untouchables. Even if they never sold another book they will be rich to the end of their days. I doubt their target demographic cares very much one way or the other about trans issues.

I tend to think any celebrity who’s on twitter and hadn’t taken a stand against JKR agrees with her but is too afraid to say. If they disagree, they have no motive to be silent - they’ll definitely be vocal about it so can gather the woke cookies.

@DidoLamenting I’d be very interested to hear what Val McDermid thinks, since she is a lesbian.

I am thoroughly depressed by the lack of support for her

It's depressing but it's not surprising, is it?

There are plenty of people too scared to speak out for fear of jeopardising their careers and livelihoods and celebrities obviously have the same concerns.

I’m wondering why piers hasn’t said anything yet.

I did wonder that too. Perhaps he’s saving it for the Big Return

On one level it is irrelevant who is, or even tentatively supporting JKR.

The way the main stream media in going all out to show who is against her, their muffled voices make not difference. Although some like YAB have said she wont discuss in public any more. And there are more than a few others. But always its just so traumatic, cant we have a quiet discussion.

Apart from Suzanne Moore in the Telegraph which has quite a big circulation and Janice Turner (it was quite small though wasn't it) in the Times, the papers are an onslaught on JKR being pilloried.

However have just seen that Gina Davidson in the Scotsman (doubly brave in Scotland) has written a real good and positive piece supporting the issues that JKR is writing about. www.scotsman.com/news/opinion/columnists/why-abuse-jk-rowling-problem-trans-rights-activists-gina-davidson-2881971

Seriously, please remember less that 20% of the population is on twitter. It is what the papers and tv news are saying that is setting the agenda for most people.

McDermid, Rankine and McCall-Smith are very disappointing. Rankine and McCall-Smith are/were neighbours of JKR. They will know each other well. Even if they profoundly disagree with what she said they could still as writers, support her right to say it and condemn the vicious online attacks.

Meryl Streep stood up and clapped for roman Polanski; we should stop giving a shit about celebrities.

It's about support from politicians, business leaders, medical specialists and the general public.

It's only twitter that JKR is losing the argument.

Ricky Gervais has liked tweets about JKR. Jess Philips and Caitlin Moran tweeted about the disgraceful Sun headline but stayed silent when she was getting abuse earlier in the week.

But whether you like it or not celebrities have a huge impact on the general public and politics. Look at how far jimmy saville got.

It is depressing the extent to which turning the tide has to continue to be such a grass roots movement. Celebrities like to think they can change the world but the important stuff is still down to the little people.
Glinner, of whom I have been a massive supporter, has gone a bit bonkers today with his non-binary nonsense. I hope he has real life support behind the scenes.
