Not many people would disagree with that. But it's not about individuals, it's about men and women as a sex class. Men offend with regards to assault and sexual offences at a much higher rate than women. It makes sense therefore to have some places which are single sex for the safety of women.

hypernormal · 13/06/2020 10:23

Needmoresleep I agree with your analysis, to an extent. I think a lot of the same type of men you describe also belittle the issue though, as though it's transwomen and women 'squabbling' amongst themselves, so that they can avoid getting involved. In any case, it's pretty cowardly and quite depressing that they are so spineless, but I think a lot of women are also guilty of the same thing.

Needmoresleep · 13/06/2020 10:29

Beamur, I don't disagree. It's just my explanation for why men don't get involved.

And yes hypernormal, I find it depressing. We are asking the men we know, the men we trust, to stick up for us. But they won't.

Indeed Daniel, Rupert and friends are going out of their way to stab JKR in the back.

YourVagesty · 13/06/2020 12:37

I hope I'm not being overly optimistic but I think the tone is shifting. I had a read around online last night and this morning and 90% of what I'm seeing, from journalists, celebs and normal people is support for JK and condemnation of Daniel Radcliffe et al. Even LOJ was being put on his place last night (see Robert Webb's tweet and the thread that followed).

There are still vocal people on Twitter but who are they to dominate the debate? What are their qualifications, where's the social proof of their authority?

It reminds me, in a way, of the hysterical Corbynites the morning after the Tory landslide in December, still screeching that Corbyn was loved by most of the country, and that he was more popular etc. Demonstrably not - but their fury and conviction overruled their sensibilities. I reckon it's the same group, more or less. The bullying and hectoring far left.

hypernormal · 13/06/2020 16:27

Jameela Jamil being catty about JK Rowling again.

twitter.com/jameelajamil/status/1271586754030481409

You'd think that after her 'asking for it' victim blaming tweet she would have learned perhaps that her she ought to live up to her 'feminist in progress' subheading and do a little reflection on this, but no, there's obviously more likes to milk from the abuse of a domestic violence and sexual assault victim yet.

hypernormal · 13/06/2020 16:30

...she clearly also has reading comprehension problems. As if JK Rowling's problem was 'who is allowed to say they have a period'. She's like a school bully, down to the envy of JK Rowling for her talent, wealth and greater platform.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 13/06/2020 17:36

This move is spitting in the face of those who fought to the death for lgbtq+ rights

She's fine with spitting in the face of the women who died so she could be educated, work, and spout her shite freely though.

MaleficentsCrow · 13/06/2020 18:10

Well I must have one of the shortest experiences on twitter ever. I decided to join up last week, and in a response to Jam I said "sticks and stones will hurt my bones, but a penis in my changing room will always offend me" I got banned 😂😂

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 13/06/2020 18:47

Shock. They can ban you for that? I don't have an account, but read threads from links on here. Maybe it was the word "penis". I see "lady dick" in lots of vile threats - maybe that's the approved term. I am quite impressed, tho. A complete ban for 1 innocuous tweet! Is this a record?

OldeMagick · 13/06/2020 22:18

I got an immediate ban for apparent 'misgendering'

No mention of genitalia whatsoever....

OldeMagick · 13/06/2020 22:46

@SunsetBeetch

I haven't read the Cormoran Strike books yet (but I'm definitely going to now), but I'm willing to bet the 'transphobia' has been twisted too. Particularly as this all seems to have come from Joss Prior and Katelyn Burns (a certain fruity website has info on KB... that's all I'm saying).
Joss Prior aka the 'poncho whisperer' is just another keyboard warrior with ideas above their station, whose only activism is finding women to bitch about online - women who are actually making a difference, such as JKR and have ten times the courage and integrity that JP and his misogynistic cohorts could ever hope to have.

Bit of a tragic character really.

(here endeth the lesson)

Ouch poor Ron.

ItsLateHumpty · 14/06/2020 02:39

Grin Sandy is epic!

I’m actually pretty impressed by the twitter bannings.

Fuck up some TERFs - fine
Correctly naming male genitalia or use of pronouns - bad
Twitter - made by men, for men. Such as it ever was.

Joss Prior aka the 'poncho whisperer' 😂

TehBewilderness · 14/06/2020 02:54

Think about all the men over the years that suddenly claim to care about women's rights because they now have a daughter.
They didn't care because it didn't affect them.
The effort of post modernists to teach people to see everything as individual and isolated incidents instead of patterns of behavior across a society is partly responsible for this, I think.

Best. One. Yet.Grin
Doyoumind · 14/06/2020 22:50

I'm sneaking this in here because I didn't want to create a lot of noise for obvious reasons but there are some wonderful and kind people who have been making an effort to reply to some of the tweets with drawings sent to JKR that she can't respond to herself.

CaveMum · 15/06/2020 10:35

Looks like Tim Minchin is testing the water...

twitter.com/timminchin/status/1272342923003092992?s=21

Haworthia · 15/06/2020 10:45

Tim Minchin is definitely onside. There was a meme flying around recently where someone would retweet Donald Trump’s “CHINA!” tweet and put something funny in front of it. Tim’s response was boys have a penis, girls have a va...

Someone (a friend, I’m guessing) responded “That’s transphobic!” and Tim replied “😂”.

He probably got torn to shreds after that but I didn’t check back.

Beamur · 15/06/2020 11:00

Funny man. I like the nice reflection at the end.
Why can't more people be like this?

CaveMum · 15/06/2020 11:01

I think he’s a fence sitter, he definitely was trying to use the “they only want to pee” argument a while back.

Needmoresleep · 15/06/2020 11:09

I think, like many men, he opposes the restrictions on free speech. He opposes the lack of critical thinking and the cult like dogma.

He chooses to address these as opposed to the substance of the debate.

In a way it is logical. If you try to debate you are shut down. So first step is to demand that you can debate. He probably knows that women have a bunch of good arguments they can use. And that is almost why they are not allowed a voice.

CoffeeTeaChocolate · 15/06/2020 11:25

Tim Minchin was pressed as to which author he was defending. He said Julia Baird regarding statue removals.,

Beamur · 15/06/2020 12:04

The fundamental principles are the same though.
I guess you just have to be willing to see that free speech (as allowed within the law) is applied to all issues.

SpokeTooSoon · 15/06/2020 17:20

I got a reply from The Body Shop. I’ll post it here.
