This might be a good article to share with the people saying this to you Neurotrash www.feministcurrent.com/2017/07/26/white-feminism-thing-gender-identity-ideology-epitomizes/

I was with JK all the way but I’ve seen some things today that have made me feel uncomfortable about her.

It said she writes under another name, which is the name of the man who created gay conversion therapy, apparently under this name she also wrote a series of books in which the transwoman was the villain. Put together it does make me feel uncomfortable.

I agree with her in the majority but I feel like defending those who may turn out to be genuinely transphobic and/or bigoted in general, does no good for raising awareness and support for what we actually want to achieve.

But that’s just my personal take on it, I think there are some ‘GC’ women who are actually transphobic and it damages the ability to speak out against the real issues. Fully respect that lots of women are of the ‘whatever it takes, whoever it is’ stance.

Fairenuff · 11/06/2020 21:43

Why don't you read the book and judge for yourself?

What is wrong with having a transwoman as a villain anyway? I thought they were lambasting her for not having diverse enough characters? Or do you think a tw should only be a 'good' character?

334bu · 11/06/2020 21:49

For goodness sakes there used to be lots of Galbraith's shops in Scotland and Robert is hardly an uncommon name up here-Rabbie Burns eg. Talk about a contrived conspiracy theory!!!!

Enderthedragon · 11/06/2020 21:51

OMG, tin foil hat time... Hmm

Anyway, its the trans lobby which promote gay conversion. Loads of teenagers out there who might just be gay or lesbian and maybe don't conform to the things people normally expect for their sex are being told they are in 'the wrong body' and encouraged to transition. Think you might be gay? Change your sex, then you will be straight!

Fairenuff · 11/06/2020 21:53

This is what JK says about it back in 2018:

Why the name Robert Galbraith? Do you have anything to say to all those Robert Galbraiths out there?

I can only hope all the real Robert Galbraiths out there will be as forgiving as the real Harry Potters have been. I must say, I don’t think their plight is quite as embarrassing.

I chose Robert because it’s one of my favourite men’s names, because Robert F Kennedy is my hero and because, mercifully, I hadn’t used it for any of the characters in the Potter series or The Casual Vacancy.

Galbraith came about for a slightly odd reason. When I was a child, I really wanted to be called ‘Ella Galbraith’, and I’ve no idea why. I don’t even know how I knew that the surname existed, because I can’t remember ever meeting anyone with it. Be that as it may, the name had a fascination for me. I actually considered calling myself L A Galbraith for the Strike series, but for fairly obvious reasons decided that initials were a bad idea.

Odder still, there was a well-known economist called J K Galbraith, something I only remembered by the time it was far too late. I was completely paranoid that people might take this as a clue and land at my real identity, but thankfully nobody was looking that deeply at the author’s name.

Here's the link if you're interested

Oh and just in case you'd misunderstood, the transwoman character is not in all the books, I think maybe just in one? They are a series of books where the main character investigates crime.

ChateauMargaux · 11/06/2020 22:00

Let's rewrite history... her Dad wanted a boy, she felt like a boy in her teens and early 20's, posed as JK to conceal her gender and then writes as Robert Galbraith. QED JK Rowling is a transman.

FantaOra · 11/06/2020 22:13

Talk about a contrived conspiracy theory!!!!

Joss Prior was hawking that dolally story around Twitter this week. Desparado.

OhMsBeliever · 11/06/2020 23:26

I've had to have words with people about this conspiracy theory. Not sure why they think she should have known some bloke who died a long time ago was into conversion therapy. I bet she checked if anyone living had the same name as an author and probably saw a bit about dead people called Robert Galbraith, but didn't research heavily into every single one.

Someone said why hasn't she addressed it. She bloody has a paragraph on why she chose that name on her website. They really think she should answer all their crackpot questions. Hmm

Tin foil hats at the ready.

OceanOrchid · 11/06/2020 23:31

Anyone seen the S*n newspaper? Decided “JKRs ex husband not sorry for slapping her” was a good idea for a story. As if anyone needed yet another reason to not buy the damned paper.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/06/2020 23:34

Disgusting .

Datun · 11/06/2020 23:35

@CaveMum

Thank you for adding that link on my behalf! I got sidetracked and forgot about it entirely.

OceanOrchid · 11/06/2020 23:36

I’m waiting til I calamities down and then composing a letter to the press complaints people. Also gonna twitter the fuck out of it.

Datun · 11/06/2020 23:38

It said she writes under another name, which is the name of the man who created gay conversion therapy

Oh, for heaven sake, is this what it's come to?

Not enough that she's merely mentioned that sex is real and been told by thousands of misogynistic, violent, abusive men to fucking die in a fire.

Do you seriously expect normal people, rational people, to buy any of this ridiculous rubbish?

Are you 12?

SirVixofVixHall · 11/06/2020 23:40

Disgusting, vile pigs. How these people sleep is beyond me. Shame on the lot of them.

allthewaterinthetap · 11/06/2020 23:53

As always, the Sun is repulsive.

I was rather upset that it seemed Jo was transphobic - I am quite close to the issue. However, I liked her post very much - it was sensitive and thoughtful.

3LittleMonkeyz · 12/06/2020 00:19

@SirVixofVixHall

Reading that article has made me literally tear up. I think she is my idol now, and I'm sure if I ever end up as successful as her my abusive ex would be spouting similar shit to the Sun.

If a man will admit to hitting and pushing a woman and dragging her out of a house early in the morning because she tried to take a 2 month old baby with him, then I know him. I have been with a man like him. and my heart goes out to JK Rowling.

What an amazing, strong, beautiful, intelligent, articulate, wonderful woman. She should be being praised not dragged. And the Sun should be ruined.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/06/2020 00:30

3littleMonkeys Yes. Same.

3LittleMonkeyz · 12/06/2020 00:40

@SirVixofVixHall

I'm not usually the kind who looks up to/hero or heroine worships/idolises celebrities. But she is someone worth looking up to. Wise, a brilliant writer, she epitomises to me the strength of womanhood. She hasn't survived, she has thrived. Women like Emma Watson are just passing clouds on a summers day, JK is the storm

ItsLateHumpty · 12/06/2020 02:17

Star cos there’s no like button.

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/06/2020 05:46

Thank you valancy, great article. It would be dismissed as transphobic simply because it's in feminist current but the quotes and POVs are great.

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/06/2020 06:08

Yes the bbc can be shite on this.

But I've been increasingly watching their new gender and identity correspondent, Megha Mohan, with interest.

She knows what a woman is. And points out why this still matters, regularly.

Interesting tweet by her:

SunsetBeetch · 12/06/2020 06:33

His name was actually Robert Galbraith Heath. His surname was Heath FFS.

SunsetBeetch · 12/06/2020 06:40

I haven't read the Cormoran Strike books yet (but I'm definitely going to now), but I'm willing to bet the 'transphobia' has been twisted too. Particularly as this all seems to have come from Joss Prior and Katelyn Burns (a certain fruity website has info on KB... that's all I'm saying).
